PEPT: Ohanaeze urges Biafrans to brace for surprise verdict Guardian NigeriaAug 15, 2023 4:14 AM Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on Nigerians to prepare themselves for any outcome from the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT). Expressing concerns over heightened public expectations, Ohanaeze said it was drawing attention to disappointment experienced after the 2023 presidential election and warned that a similar scenario might unfold, following the tribunal's verdict.… Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on Nigerians to prepare themselves for any outcome from the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT). Expressing concerns over heightened public expectations, Ohanaeze said it was drawing attention to disappointment experienced after the 2023 presidential election and warned that a similar scenario might unfold, following the tribunal’s verdict. In a statement, yesterday, by Secretary General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group acknowledged widespread optimism that accompanied the 2023 election, following new electoral laws and assurance by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of a credible, free and fair process. It said: “The introduction of electronic transmission of votes was expected to enhance transparency and accountability, giving confidence to citizens on the electoral system. However, the election outcome left many Nigerians disheartened and demoralised. “Given the higher stakes and increased expectations leading up to the recent election, the atmosphere in Nigeria is now more tense. Nigerians await the verdict of the PEPT judges with a mix of anxiety and anticipation. “Recognising this, Ohanaeze Ndigbo urges citizens to prepare themselves mentally and emotionally for potential surprises in the tribunal’s ruling. The organisation emphasises the need to temper expectations and remain resilient in the face of possible outcomes that may not align with public desires. “Ohanaeze Ndigbo expresses concern about the potential impact of the tribunal’s verdict on the nation’s mood and stability. The organisation acknowledges that high expectations could lead to disillusionment and unrest, if not managed effectively. “By issuing this statement, Ohanaeze Ndigbo aims to promote a more balanced perspective, encouraging Nigerians to brace themselves for any surprising turn of events that may emerge from the tribunal’s decision.” “As Nigerians eagerly await the verdict of the tribunal, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, as the apex Igbo cultural organisation, advises citizens to prepare themselves mentally and emotionally for potential shocks or miracles. “Drawing attention to the disappointment experienced after the 2023 presidential election, Ohanaeze Ndigbo emphasizes the need for resilience and realistic expectations. The call is for Igbo people to lower expectations. They are the delusional ones that believe Obi is coming. However, Obi is becoming another Donald Trump. Donald Trump has continued to deny that he lost the election and even incited violence against a democratic process on Jan 6th 2021. The Biden administration allowed him to continue his lies until it became too much, and then they went after him. Obi is gradually trending in that direction. He is condoning his supporters lies and fake news with some of them even asking for military intervention. Tinubu is just waiting for the court proceedings to end and then he would begin to come hard on these Obidients spreading fake news and if Obi/Datti continue their lies; then they may charged as well. Obi is playing a political game by refusing to conceed hoping that he can build the same momentum till 2027. By the way Buhari did the same and never conceeded defeat and somehow he eventually became president. This is the same game Obi is playing but it wouldn't work this time; because his supporters are alienating the rest of the country and they don't have the numbers to make him president. forget Nigeria government, Tinubu will be declared winner and nothing will happen. if INEC chairman can declare Tinubu winner even when everyone knows he didn't win if Tinubu could be sworn in even though he didn't get 25% you think the tribunal would not have same mind to declare him winner. make una forget, una go see.
