That stuff is not sustainable bro...

The better solution to the water issue in Enugu is the one suggested by Edeoga which is daming of major rivers, treating, reticulation then supplying.

For the record the issue of water in Enugu North senatorial zone should be a thing of the past now because of the FG constructed Adada Dam with large reservoir for water. The govt should complete the treatment section, reticulate then supply it to various communities in the zone.

The drilling of boreholes for water supply for a large city as Enugu is a poor economic sense. The pressure on the submersible pumps will be out of this world, if they must provide constant reliable water for the city. What Mbah is doing will only be good if the water is to be supplied to a section of the city.

------
Enugu State is now unfortunate, just see how dry this thread has become, no new development from the state, just some propaganda. Digitron, what's happening?
borehole is the best solution for Enugu city as ugwu onyeama is very close to Enugu city. Build 100's borehole around that area with a huge central reservoir , the water problem will be a thing of the past. Most of big rivers in Enugu are very far from urban areas so it becomes a huge problem piping them to the city center.

grin grin 😂 you make me laugh with your submission...

Boreholes and water management was the job I did passionately until I stopped about two years ago, it's also part of what I studied in school.

Like I said, if Mbah will reticulate the Boreholes by districts in the city, then it will go quite a while to sustain the water crisis in the city but for a long term solution to water issue is to dam the rivers around the city to create and large reservoir of water.

The only advantage borehole has is that it's a groundwater and require little technological to treat the water, whereas dammed rivers are surface water which needs specialized treatment before distribution kiss angry

oga we have tried those rubbish before the result it low productivity. I'm a professional in the field . The ajali water scheme is there , oji too. But what was the result. There are so many industrial boreholes existing in 9th miles more than 30 yrs ago. If you studied geology there are something called reservoir and recharge. So far rain falls and we don't. Have drought . With good reservoir sand of ajalli . Water will cont be constant for use .

Gov. Mbah to Unveil $2.1bn Project Pipeline as Enugu Holds Inaugural Investment Roundtable

… _To also unveil Integrated Sector-Based Productivity Growth Strategy_

Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, will on Friday, Friday, September 1, unveil a ₦1.6 trillion ($2.1 billion) pipeline of 30 projects at the first Enugu State Investment and Economic Growth Stakeholder Roundtable.
The governor is also scheduled to launch the Enugu State Integrated Sector-Based Productivity Growth Strategy.

This was made known in a statement released by the Secretary of the State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, in Enugu on Monday.
He said the Investment and Economic Growth Roundtable, which is a precursor to the launch of the maiden multi-stakeholder and fully transactional Diaspora and Investment Forum scheduled for the second quarter of 2024, would hold in Enugu and also draw investors from across various industries locally and internationally.
“The ₦1.6 trillion Naira ($2.1 billion) project pipeline spans several industries, including transportation and healthcare infrastructure, as well as energy, power, and agro-allied industrialization.

“Senior executives from the World Bank Group, the African Development Bank Group, the International Finance Corporation, the African Export-Import Bank, the United Kingdom Department for Trade and Business, the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), as well as the Nigerian Sovereign Wealth Fund, commercial banks, corporate pension funds, private equity funds, infrastructure funds, and other domestic financial institutions will convene in Enugu to chart a course for effectively mobilising private capital for large-scale infrastructure projects, including net-zero aligned projects that can unlock Enugu State's and South-Eastern Nigeria's economic potential.

“The Roundtable discussion will cover a range of topics, including addressing barriers to investment and economic growth in Enugu State; improving investor confidence in the State understanding investor’s risk and return preferences; and identifying partnership opportunities for project preparation and co‑investments” he stated.

According to Prof. Onyia, this is in line with Governor Mbah’s determination to grow the Enugu State economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion.
“Implementation of the State's Integrated Sector-Based Productivity Growth Strategy will ensure that those sectors with the greatest potential for growth are supported through measures to reduce unnecessary regulation and boost innovation and growth.

“The new administration recognises private investment as a key driver of long-term economic growth and prosperity, and the roundtable discussion will lay the groundwork for long-term partnerships and cooperation that can catalyse Enugu's accelerated economic growth.

"Part of this administration's agenda is the development of an Investment Plan for the Integrated Sector-Based Productivity Growth Agenda with a credible pipeline of projects that will advance transformative change in key sectors. When it is released, the Plan is expected to incentivise and encourage private sector investors, as well as other stakeholders, to participate in the financing and delivery of critical infrastructure investment projects.

“We are optimistic about the future of PPPs and investments in Enugu as we build a clear legal, institutional and policy framework that should provide the business-friendly environment that can enhance private sector participation and catalyse the scale of financing required to deliver these essential public infrastructure services.

“This investment roundtable is therefore the first step towards generating investment interest in these critical areas and charting a clear path to bankability for these projects”, he concluded.

Gov. Mbah Set to Construct, Rehabilitate 81 Roads in Enugu
...To provide mass transit buses

The Enugu State Government has announced plans to begin the construction of 81 roads, comprising 71 roads in Enugu metropolis and 10 major roads to connect every part of the state.
The government has also identified roads for dualisation and strategic points for the construction of flyovers to ease traffic congestion in the state capital.
The Commissioner for Works, Dr. Gerald Otiji made this known while briefing Government House correspondents after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Peter Mbah on Monday.
“We identified about 71 roads in Enugu urban. We have scoped them and we are on the verge of getting them rehabilitated or reconstructed. These 71 roads cut across Trans Ekulu, Abakpa, Emene, Awkunanaw, Coal Camp, Asata, New Layout, Achara Layout, Idaw River, among others.
“Also identified were areas with heavy morning traffic and traffic jams where government will build flyovers. Among them is Abakpa Junction. There is going to be a flyover there. We are also trying to navigate the Chris Chemist/Old Park junction area so that we can build a flyover there.
“There are also about 10 other roads that the State Executive Council has identified outside Enugu metropolis and they are spread across the three senatorial zones. Those ones are very important roads linking the various local governments.
“There are equally some existing roads, such as the Enugu-Ugwogo Nike-Opi-Nsukka road and GRA – Trans Ekulu road, which will be dualised due to the heavy traffics on them.
“These projects will come in sequence and we are ready. We urge the people of Enugu State to exercise a little more patience”, the Commissioner stated.
Meanwhile, also briefing, the Commissioner for Information, Aka Eze Aka, explained that the State Executive Council has also approved the implementation of short to long-term programmes and policies to improve security, alleviate the challenges occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy, and migrate the state to e-governance.
“The Council has also noted that part of the palliatives to support the people of Enugu State is to provide mass transit buses and other measures to alleviate their sufferings.
“Approval has equally been given by the Council on some high-tech security infrastructure to support the security architecture of the government of Enugu State.
“Lastly, Council has approved the digitalisation of the MDAs to enhance work efficiency, which will form the foundation of our e-governance platform enunciated by Governor Peter Mbah”.
Also, briefing newsmen, the Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication, Dr. Malachy Agbo, added that the Enugu State Government would soon commence the distribution of palliatives, stressing government’s decision to decentralise the management of palliatives.
“On the issue of palliatives, Council took note of the effect of subsidy removal on the lives of Enugu people and took a decision to involve the local government councils to ensure that these palliatives actually alleviate the suffering of the people”, Dr. Agbo stated.

Enugu gov’t, Ethiopia airlines agree on partnership, training of youths on aviation

As part of its efforts to boost the gross domestic product of the state economy through diversification, the Enugu State government has concluded plans to enter into a partnership agreement with a major international airline carrier, Ethiopian Airlines.
The relationship will also foster mutual economic growth between the two bodies in aviation, including exploring different available opportunities such as the training of Enugu youths at the Ethiopian Airlines Aviation University and other areas of interest.
This was disclosed by the airlines’ officials when the state governor, Dr. Peter Mbah played host to a delegation from Ethiopian Airlines led by the outgoing Traffic and Sales Manager, Mr Henok Sirak, who were on a courtesy visit, at the Old Government Lodge, Enugu, weekend.
“Our meeting with the governor was a productive meeting aimed at strengthening ties and exploring avenues for mutual benefits,” Mr Sirak said.
The discussions which centred around collaborative opportunities and strategies to enhance the airlines’ operations within the state, further underlined the commitment of the parties to forge a common front that would contribute to the growth and development of the state's economy.
While reacting to the visit, the governor expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting, describing it as a pivotal step towards the realization of the administration's economic development plan.
While wishing the outgoing manager well, Governor Mbah pledged that his administration would work with the new manager, Mr. Zeleke Flate, who was introduced to him at the meeting by the outgoing manager, to ensure that both parties benefit from the partnership.
The visit ended in a symbolic gesture as the governor received a model aircraft bearing the Ethiopian Airlines logo and a carefully curated selection of Ethiopian premium coffee, which signified a strengthened partnership between state government and the Ethiopian Airlines.

Gov. Mbah Inaugurates Committee to Verify, Clear Outstanding Pensions and Gratuities

In a bid to cushion the effects of subsidy removal and raise the purchasing power of the vulnerable citizens of the Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah, on Wednesday, inaugurated the Committee on Verification and Payment of Outstanding Pensions and Gratuities to State Retirees.
The seven-man committee is chaired by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, and has the Head of Service, Kenneth Ugwu; Accountant-General of the State, Mr. Anthony Okenwa; and Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Finance Management, Prof. Obiamaka Egbo as members.
Others are the State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Ben Asogwa; State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Fabian Nwigbo; and the Chairman, Public Service Joint Negotiating Council, Comrade Ezekiel Omeh.
Inaugurating the committee at the Government House, Enugu, Governor Mbah said the step was in keeping with his campaign promise to clear pension and gratuity arrears, adding that the combined effects of the payments of the arrears and the normal monthly pensions and gratuities would inject billions of naira into the state’s economy on a monthly basis.
Dr. Mbah said: “In line with our campaign promise and in order to help cushion the immediate and short-term effects of the removal of subsidy, I am more than happy and it is my honour to inaugurate this Committee on Verification and Payment of Outstanding Pensions and Gratuities to State Retirees charged with the following terms of references: “determine and verify outstanding two-month pension arrears to state retirees; determine and verify the outstanding gratuities owed to state retirees; conduct all payments according to months and years of retirement of officers from service; and render monthly and quarterly reports to the Secretary to the State Government in respect of all payments”.
Continuing, he added: “We did say that our vision is to eradicate poverty in Enugu State. And we are also mindful that in order for us to achieve that, we must target polices that are designed to get to our vulnerable ones and we believe that the best way to deal with the tensions and fragilities is by making sure that we deal with the root causes of insecurity. And for us, that means that we have to ensure that there is sufficient funds being injected into the system that can cascade down and our people will have purchasing power.
“We also know that the recent policy of government removing subsidy on petroleum products will certainly have some impacts on our most vulnerable ones.
“It is therefore the state government’s policy to ensure that we put in place measures - immediate, short, medium, and long-term measures – that address the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy.
“For us in Enugu State, we believe that the best way to achieve that is to ensure that our vulnerable ones, our retirees, have access to funds to buy things and maintain a reasonable and dignifying standard of living”.
It is recalled that the state government, earlier in the week, also inaugurated a palliative committee that will be responsible for the procurement, storage and distribution of palliatives to ameliorate the impact of subsidy removal on the vulnerable members of the society

ENUGU STATE: INVESTMENT & ECONOMIC GROWTH ROUNDTABLE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlhC8pPosdI?si=UV9w0atzu90r0lOx

This roundtable was held in preparation for the upcoming diaspora and investment forum in April 2024. Governor Mbah said (from 32.51) the state gov't is well on track and on schedule to provide FULLY RETICULATED WATER SUPPLY TO HOMES AND BUSINESSES IN ENUGU METROPOLIS AS PROMISED.

Some of the major bullet-points in the speech delivered by Prof Onyia, the secretary to the state govt are as follows:

*AIIA Enugu expansion: completion of the international terminal building (i have my reservations on the state gov't funding this while the Buhari gov't ensured the other ones were fully completed with loans and extra-budgetary allocations) ; new cargo terminal and cargo warehouse; full runway construction; and a brand new AIIA MRO (maintainance, repair and overhaul) hub to be located at Emene.

*Enugu inland waterway project for movement of cargo. This will serve as a trans-shipment terminal for Lagos and Onne ports and support shipments to Onitsha, Lokoja and Baro inland riverports. The terminal building, jetty, cargo village, dredging and navigational aids for cargo handling will be situated at Ogurugu in Uzo-Uwani LGA.

*Inland dry port, the logistics hub of which is to be located at Ete. This is a multi-functional inland port development that will have a container terminal and will provide customs control to serve cargo for Ogurugu port, AIIA and Onne ports.

*Enugu bus rapid-tansit service to serve Enugu metropolis and intra-state travel, and will use CNG and electric buses.

*Enugu light-rail to be electric-powered and will connect key economic and resort corridors and centres in and around Enugu metropolis.

*Planned private investments in power generation and distribution in the state

*Natural gas industrial park; 350 megawatt gas-to-power power plant and another 150 megawatt gas-to-power plant; 50 megawatt solar power project; and clean-coal project to serve the steel and power industry.

*Green agro-allied industrial zones; beef production and livestock processing.

*Data campus.

*Enugu smart city that will include green homes, a international finance centre, shopping and sports complexes and a theme park.

*Eco-tourism and hospitality that will see Hotel Presidential being concessioned. The hotel will be renovated and expanded to a 4-star hotel with 150 rooms. Nike Lake hotel will also be concessioned, renovated and expanded to a 3-star eco-resort of 310 rooms.

*The international conference centre will either be concessioned or completed by the state gov't......didn't quite get the details on this.

If these objectives are achieved and the state is elevated to a $30 billion GDP economy as expected, it will position Enugu to be one of the leading investment, tourism and liavable destinations in West Africa.
