naptu2: So, what's your point? That Electric automobiles are also an option? That Electric automobiles are cheaper? That we have stable & reliable electricity supply in Nigeria to drive the Electric automobile industry? |

Re: President Bola Tinubu Approves Establishment Of Presidential CNG Initiative by naptu2: 9:16am On Aug 19, 2023 |
ivandragon: That there are very many options that will compete with each other and make the customer king. There's solar-electric There's CNG and LNG There's petrol (petrol is not going away) There's diesel Etc. Read the threads to see what's actually already happening in these areas. |
Re: President Bola Tinubu Approves Establishment Of Presidential CNG Initiative by ivandragon: 9:38am On Aug 19, 2023 |
naptu2: What is happening in those areas that we don't already know? Is the cost of recharging the vehicles going to be truly affordable? What happens when CNG also starts getting smuggled out of the country? How affordable are diesel & PMS for the masses at this time? It is easy to spew out ideas as policies, but if there is no proper planning, implementation & most importantly, fixing the root causes that have led to the NEED for these alternatives, then nothing much will change... |
Re: President Bola Tinubu Approves Establishment Of Presidential CNG Initiative by naptu2: 9:45am On Aug 19, 2023 |
ivandragon: That simply means that you have not read the threads You are asking about cost of charging, how are commercial drivers charging their electric vehicles in Borno (Oh, you didn't know that there were commercial electric vehicle services in Borno, right? ) how are they doing it in Kano?? It seems like you are not interested in learning. It doesn't take much to click and read what is actually happening (not policy pronouncements, but actions that are being taken by private sector and others). I don't have time for posturing and that's clearly what you want to do. Have a great day (I am not going to read your posts again). Here are the threads again in case you are interested in learning. naptu2: My questions remain... You are the one who does not read or learn from the past. Electric, solar or CNG powered vehicles are not new in Nigeria. You are the one who has refused to read or learn. https://www.google.com/url?q=https://dailytrust.com/building-solar-powered-car-in-nigeria-is-huge-feat-says-inventor/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwjtiumwzuiAAxWfU0EAHT0GAoEQFnoECAEQAg&usg=AOvVaw0Tp9KBxAEnAISimfU_iL4f https://www.google.com/url?q=https://dailytrust.com/building-solar-powered-car-in-nigeria-is-huge-feat-says-inventor/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwiP0uyvzeiAAxUCkFwKHR1zCuMQFnoECAYQAg&usg=AOvVaw0f2VhViG2J1RjG-1KyQzd6 https://www.google.com/url?q=https://guardian.ng/energy/number-of-nigerias-gas-powered-vehicles-hit-5000/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwj-1Or8zeiAAxUHXUEAHaroB_gQFnoECAQQAg&usg=AOvVaw1ZRYAtxruQPDWBPVY7e1Ap Like I stated earlier, it is easy to have an idea, but what about implementation? What about the commitment to see policies through? You don't have to read my posts (even though you will), that's your choice. |

00FFT00: All these Epistles are unnecessary. Gas powered vehicles has been in operation for over 5 years in Benin City. If you don't want it, go for petrol powered vehicles, QED. The FG is gradually removing her hands in Petrol business . |

oyatz: In fact, they've been used in Benin for around 10 years. NIPCO has around 15 CNG stations there. Most of these people are talking theory while all these things are already in practice in Nigeria. |

oyatz: Sorry, your president is a confused, unintentional, incompetent man. Notice how he changes his ministerial positions?. This is not about a well-thought-out policy. You do not run a government through trial and errors. People's lives and livelihoods are on the line, you know it, but God forbid you admit the truth for once. It's about your tribe, your turn. What about Nigeria?. |

Former Nairaland auto section mod, Sienna, on December 9, 2015. Most gasoline engines (with the exception of certain GDI / FSI versions) can be converted to run on both petrol and gas. Just be aware, gas does NOT provide valve lubricant like petrol does, which means prolonged use of gas will ruin your valves. A good LPG system will include upper cylinder lubricant. His response to someone that said that Nigeria is not ready for it.

naptu2, I am back. You can continue to hide behind one finger by insulting in your dairy & then running to report to the Mods when you are responded to in kind so as to ban me. Fact remains that until this administration is open, sincere & stops pushing the consequences of its failures unto the masses, some of us will continue to critic them. |

naptu2:That's awesome. CNG is the way to go... NOT the more expensive PMS. |
Re: President Bola Tinubu Approves Establishment Of Presidential CNG Initiative by ubreeze(m): 6:06pm On Nov 28, 2023 |
for starters I want to state clearly that I am not happy a president we never voted for was forced on us. Secondly, I will still criticize the manner in which Tinubu went about the subsidy removal, it was callous and everything else he is doing to mitigate the effect is an afterthought. Moving forward, CNG is cheaper now and will always be so because of certain factors 1. It is locally produced (Powergas has 5 CNG plants across Nigeria). 2. Nigeria as at 2022 had 208 Trillion cubic Ft of Natural gas (So CNG will ALWAYS be locally processed for a long time to come). 3. PMS is not expensive because of demand as you wrongly thought, it is expensive because A. it is majorly imported, B. The value of the naira is at the worst it has ever been. To put B in perspective, if the Naira gains against the dollar to say N300 per $. PMS will crash to about N190 to N230 per Liter. 4. Even when PMS was being smuggled, the smuggling didn't affect the price in Nigeria. The smuggling was due to d fact that Naija PMS was subsidized, hence cheaper that the price in neighboring countries. 5. It takes more than demand to increase price, cost of production is a greater determinant. With the FG interest and plans I have seen, the plan is to push incentives that will encourage major players in the CNG production sector. In summary, I am sayin that this will work if we are all interested in how it plays out. Natural gas is being flared every second across oil fields in Nigeria, we have to be vocal about that. We have to scrutinize every part of this initiative, call for adjustment in areas that will not favor us and take it upon ourselves to report and shout when anything goes wrong. Subsidy was wrong, the way it was removed was wicked but WE CANNOT GO BACK TO IT IF WE HOPE TO SURVIVE AS A NATION. ivandragon: |
Re: President Bola Tinubu Approves Establishment Of Presidential CNG Initiative by ubreeze(m): 6:50pm On Nov 28, 2023 |
You should not generalize as a Risk Engineer that you said you are, you should evaluate first. 1. You should know that CNG has a higher ignition temperature than petrol which makes it less dangerous ( CNG can operate at up to 700 degrees Celsius, as compared to petrol’s 455 degrees). A petrol car will catch fire almost 2 times faster than a CNG operated car if there is an uncontrolled increase in internal temperature. 2. Also, the cylinders which carry CNG are a lot tougher than the traditional petrol tanks. Before they make their way to cars, they undergo extreme tests to eliminate the risks of leakage. 3. CNG is also safer than other fuels in the event of a spill, because natural gas is lighter than air and disperses quickly when released. In the event of an accident, IF (a very big IF) the CNG tank is punctured, the CNG will very quickly rise above the heavier air, petrol on the other hand will stay. If there is an open flame, the petrol will ignite and explode, the CNG won't. reynold101: |
