My frnd was a victim of this, two years now.. he hasn't bounced back, and the wicked agent is no where to be found. . He sold his car, land and all he had. Even borrowed, got to Europe and still borrowed from from home. He stayed in a hotel for almost 2 weeks before leaving to Kenya, where he stayed for almost a month, spending almost $50 daily. couldn't find anything doing. Had to return to lagos. An Anglo-Saxon in America or Canada with citizenship, local education , permission to work , work experience, job, savings/support system and access to credit spends an average of 20 years or longer to pay up for a house. Then a Nigerian aged 40 sells his/her fully paid up house+assets to move to these countries without the right to work unconditionally , without the right skills (in some cases) , zero savings (probably in debt) , no home and little/zero access to credit .
How else can you explain the possible outcome of moves like this? Some have blossomed taking this risk but the majority have not. Canada offers direct permanent residency to skilled immigrants thus people are usually able to re-balance themselves after some time but the U.K. is dicey as you need to meet certain conditions to maintain your residency status which adds to the stress .

What you don't understand is some don't really have asset in Nigeria. You're not in thier shoe. Business is collapsing, companies are laying off staff. Even if you find one person earning
big, you see alot of mouth depending on the person to feed and clothe. Someone earning 300k might be feeding a family of 4. Do the maths, averagely, his share isn't upto 100k. Such person is poor. But, works in a top organisation and drives a big car. Achievement sometimes is different from asset. You could own a house or a car and yet not making enough money to live comfortably and train your kids. You need to earn above 500k monthly to afford a good rent and train kids in this country. Abroad, if you work hard, you could offset your financial struggles, but in Nigeria, the harder you work, the poorer you become. While lazy ppl loot, steal and get richer.

I really want to travel but my biggest fear has always been what if things are not as they say?
