Advice: Unilag Or UI For Masters by Jack273: 3:36pm On Apr 25, 2023 |
Good afternoon. I'm trying to decide between doing my masters in University of Lagos or in University of Ibadan. Case 1: What are the pros and cons of each school. Which would you advice with the information provided so far. Case 2: Taking into consideration that I'm a recent graduate from Unilag and my area of interest is Electronics and Control as my first degree is in Electrical & Electronics Engineering. I am also currently working in Lagos somewhere close to Unilag and my company is willing to retain me during my masters provided I do it in Unilag though they are suggesting I do the part time program which is 5 semesters as opposed to 3 semesters for full time. Which school will you advice in each case and why. 1 Like |

You already have somewhere you are used to. You had your first degree there and it is close to your work place. What is the nature of your dilemma? 3 Likes |

Babamide:I'm thinking having all my degree from same place is not wise. Also I am honestly tired of Lagos. But I need more reasons to stay or leave. 1 Like |

Jack273: It's better to run your Postgraduate studies in Nigeria in a familiar environs... You already know everyone in your Department and all... But if you insist on exploring then proceed to Ibadan .... It's good to explore in Nigeria 1 Like |

Great. In your shoe, I'd go to UI, OAU or Unilorin. Jack273: Meanwhile, Jack, look, I have this question. I have a friend who's 25, he wants to study elect elect and he look poised to succeed now. This means he'll age 30/31/32 by graduation. Is it advisable he go on, considering the age sensitivity of Nigerian companies? Are employment available for elect elect engineers? |

Re: Advice: Unilag Or UI For Masters by Jack273: 12:39am On Apr 26, 2023 |
haybhi1:If he will be studying in Nigeria, then he will most likely be 32 by graduation. Considering most engineering graduate trainee jobs request for 25/26 below, he is already disqualified. But then it totally depends on where he hopes to work after graduation. My advice will be for him to sit down and look at the part of elect elect he is interested in. From personal experience 90 percent of those who study the course would have been better off going for computer science, system engineering or other engineering courses. In my department alone more than 60 percent are software engineerings today or into one form of programming or the order. The rest are into entirely different fields. Only about 6 percent of us can actually still say that we are electrical engineers working in telecoms, control, electronics or power sector. Unless he is really passionate about any of these four sectors, he should forget about the course. Now for his age, he will need to bring something extra to the table. He must master the practical aspect and not just the theory to stand out. Hence the need for passion. With enough practical experience he can stand on his own and the certificate will just be an extra. 1 Like |

Geminita Strong points. UI is already not an option anymore at least for this year as the application is closed. So I just have till 5th of September to decide whether to go to Unilag. 1 Like |
