NewDea4:Don't be deluded. Yorubas too were recording movies in vhs during that time infact earlier than that. Its just that Yoruba films then were limited to southwest due to language barrier. What propel Igboz movies then was the use of English even we in southwest watched those films. But its not to say those Igbo English films started earlier in vhs than yoruba movies. That's a blatant lie from hell. We are d pioneer of nollywood 10 Likes |

ehikwe22: This superiority complex will be the end of us. What will it take people to acknowledge that others slaved and contributed to the industry they are currently dominating? Igbos dominated the movie industry and if not for the revolution of how movies were distributed, our SW folks wouldn't have penetrated. Just because you are currently on top doesn't mean you were always ontop. Acknowledging the efforts of others and give honour when it's due won't take anything away from you. 2 Likes |

I can name 10 Yoruba actors and actresses that became very popular when they made screenplays on Igbo produced Nollywood movies...Ramsey Noah (half Yoruba) became a sensation when he was featured in those classic lover boy movies all produced by Igbos, Desmond Elliot another Yoruba boy went from the "Everyday people" TV show regular guy to becoming a popular super star actor when he started acting in Igbo Nollywood English movies, Bimbo Akintola, Omotola Jolade, Olu Jacob's (even though he was a bit popular in the few 80's British sit coms he featured in) but his prototype Igwe roles earned him more fame across Africa, Eniola Badmus, Jibola Dabo etc. None of these actors made it big in Yoruba Nollywood so they had to find their fame in the Igbo Nollywood English movies. How many Igbos made it big in Yorubawood movies? infact how many Non- Yorubas besides a few made it big by casting in yorubawood?! but lots of Nollywood stars of South West and South South extractions were popular across Africa cause of major roles they played in Igbo produced classic movies...the likes of Shan George, Sam Loco Efe, JT Tom West, Kate Henshaw, Dakore Egbuson and several other South South actors and actresses became famous from Igbo Nollywood movies. |

Yet igbos keep being the president of Nollywood till date and gave olu Jacobs, omotola, there stardom in movie industry, simply means that without us you can not shine, just like without us living many and developing Lagos,it won't be what it is today Meanwhile how is OYO(Ibadan),osun, ekiti,Ondo, ogun?you can't compare them to any southeastern states,if only other other subsequent governors of abia state maintained the good work of orji uzo in ABA,ABA would.have been more beautiful than all your sad wastern (south western) states. Before you argue this,I was born and bread In ABA in the 80's,so I witnessed orji uzo in the millennium and I have been around all your sad wastern states, una no reach,I no even wan mention Enugu,Owerri etc.na that ABA you dey yab I wan use. Nollywood started with "Living In Bondage". Before then Nigerians were making films and series just like we've been making music for more than 20 thousand years but things turn around at some point to start a new order. |

FreeStuffsNG: Tribe don enter this one too....Yorubas una worst past Hausa....everything is tribalism. ... "By the 90s, most cinema houses had collapsed due to a lack of activity (which is related to the failures of what Yorubas always start). Churches acquired others that had not collapsed. As expected, video on demand was the thing, and films like Kenneth Nnabue’s Living in Bondage had paved the way for the new Nollywood making it a lucrative venture which till today is striving better. Video rental clubs thrived for families, and the allure was paying as little as N100 for a limited amount to a film. When Igbo man touch business, u know the answer. Yoruba don't own anything, Igbo don't too neither Hausa....until we stop this tribal issue, people with mid brains like u wont allow this country forge ahead. 2 Likes |

Omoawoke: Yorubas has never dominated nollywood and they never claimed to have dominated until now. During thr colonial era, different ethnic groups shoot some mushroom plays including the Yorubas. Hausa have theirs, Edos have theirs, Igbos have theirs etc. It was nothing big neither was it an industry or the movies created for commercial purposes or commercial quantities for distribution. It was the Igbo that at a point created a standard movie industry known today as Nollywood - while the Hausas and the Yorubas expanded their own local branches instead of merging with the mainstream Igbo controlled nollywood. The Igbo controlled movie industry is what is known as nollywood, Hausa called theirs Kannywood but Yoruba and the Igbo language movies didn't create separate names for theirs that's the only reason Yoruba can wake up today and tag their movies as nollywood movies. |

foleskay:The first film produced on video in Nigeria is 1988's Soso Meji, produced by Ade Ajiboye. Subsequently, Alade Aromire produced Ekun (1989) on video.[4] However, the boom experienced in this era is generally believed to have been kick started by Kenneth Nnebue's Living in Bondage (1992). Do you know why? When it comes to business or to make something boom....you know the tribe to contact and remember is not how far but how well. Learn to remove tribalism from everything 2 Likes |

Okay. Time to rename it Oduduwood, like north did for Kannywood. I don't know why we continue to deceive ourselves about the one Nigeria. Because of cheap cash from crude oil in the Niger Delta region, politicians still congregate in Abuja for barely existing one Nigeria. Europeans have since the fall of Berlin Wall dismantled all the multi religious and multi ethnic countries that once existed in Europe because Europeans know that such countries never work. 2 Likes |
