an0daGuy: You are very correct. I drives Sienna with 3MV engine. I was traveling one morning and my sienna had transmission issue. I topped the oil. Before I could drive for 5 mins, I noticed that the engine has started over heating. When I stopped, I noticed that the transmission oil was just freely pouring on the road. I mean pouring as if my gearbox casing was broken. The road, was very dangerous. I was traveling alone. My destination was still about 1hr 30mins drive going at the speed of btw 100 and 120KMPH. And I can't go back to the place I took off from cos it is almost the same distance to my destination. You can't even get roadside mechanics till I get like 10mins drive to my destination. I waited for the engine to cool down a bit. I topped water to the radiator. I took off again. The worst was the gear can't go beyond gear one and two. I kept driving this car that way which put lot of pressure on the engine which resulted to serious over heating. I will drive and top water. A journey of about 2hrs 30mins took me more than 5hrs to arrive. The highest speed I could attain was 40kmph. Sometimes, I could not even go beyond 20kmph. What am I trying to say. I was surprised that when the mechanic finished bleeding the radiator, no damage on the engine. I repaired the gearbox with N150,000. It about 1yr now and the engine and the gearbox are still running efficiently and no issue. My friend drives Sienna 2008 with 2GR engine. Small overheat caused serious damage to the engine. 6 Likes |

GAZZUZZ: The 3mzs engines, I understand that they come with timing belts. Please, when those belts cut, do they bend valves and damage engine? I will appreciate your response. Thanks |

Talking from experience, I drive a sienna with a 2gr engine, Yes talking about speed and stability, the 2gr has it over the 3mz but as per maintenance...no no no, it's not cheap to maintain, Fuel consumption is high, it takes me 15 litres of fuel to go on a 60klm journey while a normal 3mz would consume less than 10 litres, any slight thing to fix in the engine will require it being brought down completely as it has a timing chain other than a belt, The 2gr is prone to overheating once it overheats , definitely your top gasket is gone and engine needs to be brought down to change just top gasket ... I had my own fair share of the troubles of a 2gr but no doubt it's a nice engine only if you don't put the car to stress everyday, just good for personal use ... It has speed and is rugged 3 Likes

I don't think I have heard of anyone driving Toyota Venza, 2012 highlander etc complain of overheating. This is cause they both use same 2gr engines with sienna. So my question is, are we sure the overheating is not a sienna thing? Cause overheating is always the issue wit sienna wit 2gr engine 1 Like |

RoadMozart: That's the thing. I think it also depends on who is driving it. Some people can be careless. There own is just to start and drive 5 Likes |

Ceceking: You're very correct, man! An RX 350 i just bought last month as a returned to Nigeria got overheated today and developed a burnt gasket, and the mechanic said he would bring down the engine to replace the gasket. What's your experience with gasket replacements by Nigerian mechanics, abeg? I heard cars start having issues, especially these 2gr engines, once our mechanics work on them. |

Actually, I don't know much about the fuel economy of the 3MZ and 2GR on a sienna. A lot of factors come into play here. If the sienna is powered by a 2GR on AWD system, it will likely take more fuel. Note that the fuel economy of these engines is dependent on the cars the engines are used in. I have a 2004 Lexus ES330 with the 3MZ engine and I can confidently tell you it is more fuel efficient than a Toyota camry big daddy (04) with a 2AZ 4 cylinder engine and a Honda EOD 4 cylinder I once owned. I cannot complain when it comes to the fuel efficiency of the 3MZ. 1 Like |

franklin93: Bros I disagree. What is your fuel consumption per km in 2AZ ? Also, share same for 3MZ. My 2AZ is doing 11km with 1 liters in Abuja roads. My colleague 3MZ sienna is doing 6km per liter in same Abuja |

franklin93:I disagree also, owned 04 lex es 330 and currently 05 lex rx330…. Can u imagine the suv is far more fuel efficient than the salon es 330. Lexus ES 330 04 was a fuel guzzler , I don’t know about subsequent years though |

I have owned both siennas, the 2005 with 3 mz and 2007 with 2gr. The 3mz is better in fuel economy and ruggedness. It hardly breaks and very loyal. The 2gr seems faster but too difficult to maintain. It's a fuel consumer, very expensive to maintain but a powerhouse. It can break down for the simplest reasons My advice : stay away from the 2gr complete 💯. Don't say you didn't know or hear. 98% of commercial siennas run on 3mz. There's a reason transport companies prefer the 3mz. My opinion from experience |

ugreat: 3mz has the engine top cover with red inscription on it boldly written VVT-I , 3.3. The 2gr is plane with Toyota logo and V6 so boldly crested. The 2gr is crested there too but faintly on the cover. |
