The truth is there would always be a reason for coupist to usurp power in any African country.

Whether it is genuine or not, there is clearly a pattern that is forming in Africa

May God have mercy on Africa.

With the level of corruption in Nigeria, i would be shocked if a coup doesn't happen in my lifetime

That's why the first thing our Presidents do after being sworn in is to retire all the service chief, appoint new ones and retire all the superior chiefs.

The new ones are no different.

Buratai was appointed, yet under Buhari's nose, Oga was acquiring in Dubai.

The one that replaced him, didn't last one month before he died in an helicopter crash.

With the way we are, coup is more likely to happen.

I doubt it. Who will lead the coup? The junior officers?

You've to be in charge of most of the officers to effectively carry out a coup. Alot has changed in our military architecture and set up.

Look at the current composition of the military and the military formation in Abuja and its leading officers and see how impossible it will be to carry out a coup.

It will NEVER happen.

No matter the logic through which you examine the issue, you cannot rule out the possibility of a coup even in Nigeria.

I do not, however, hope a coup occurs.

Section 5(1) of Same sex prohibition act 2013 imposes 14 years imprisonment upon conviction on those who enter same sex marriage and section 5(2) of same act imposes 10 years imprisonment upon conviction on anybody who directly or indirectly makes public show of same sex amorous relationship.
The law is the law! The law in Nigeria is a function of our cultural values, beliefs, customary practices and the common law.
How is it injustice when the police are clearly enforcing the laws of the land.
You can empathize with them from now till tomorrow , but those guys will most likely be eating prison beans for the foreseeable future.

Blueray, these laws below are part of our own laws, do you personally agree with these laws and do you wish to preserve the statusquo or do you rather prefer they were changed even if maybe you were in the minority?

Section 6 of the criminal code says marital rape is not an offence because rape cannot happen within a marriage.

Under section 26 and 26 of the nigerian constitution, a Nigerian woman who marries a foreigner does not grant her foreign partner nigerian citizenship, on the other hand, if a Nigerian man marries a foreign partner, his partner is automatically conferred a Nigerian citizenship.

Section 55 of the nigerian labor law bans women from working in the night except the woman is a nurse.

Section 353 of the criminal code states that sexual assualt on a woman is categorized as a minor infraction and bears no longer than 2 years in jail regardless of the degree.

Then lets talk about negligence of the law or rather, things that are legal to do in nigeria but illegal in other places. Female genital mutilation, a common practice where the female sex organ is deformed as a traditional practice. Marriage arrangements, one where the girl child is given away to a husband by her parents.
Underage child bride. Still very legal. There are many other such Nigerian laws that are archaic and belongs in the past.

Now with all these i ask you again, do you agree with all the laws of your country? Are there laws you wish to see changed in order for your society to evolve to a better one or are you a strong advocate for the status quo? because your position on this seem to be that the law is supreme and we must be resigned to it even even when obviously wrong, even though historical evidence presents to us where the law has been weaponised against fellow citizens.

For example, Your argument rings through with Americans who weaponised the law to suppress the rights and dignity of their fellow citizens. Blacks were legally 3\5th of a human being, interracial marriage was illegal. Interracial sex was illegal with severe punishments. Segregation of races were legal and codified.

One could say that these were indeed "a reflection" of the majority of the society but did that make that, right and moral?? Do you think the people who advocated for and passed those laws did the right thing? When you genuinely answer that question, you see how you've basically buried your conscience and taken the cowardly position of hiding under the law even when that law directly stamps against the fundamental human rights of your fellow countrymen. You enjoy their dehumanization because it doesn't affect you and that is morally unconscionable. Its wicked and not right.

I felt bad while reading this. Nigeria is a sad state of affairs.

Unperturbedpota:
Smh

Because he is refusing to publish all the propaganda you pushed him anymore.

For years you guys used the media to sell lies.. lies upon lies about Nigeria and the economy.

Foreign investors believed and made the mistake of coming here to invest then they lost billions.

From Jumia to Konga to bata ro nestle to Glaxo to Lufthansa to Kellogs to ToyRUs to Lego to Walmart to Pizza hut , etc I could go on and on listing foreign investors whis believed the lies from the Lagos Chamber of commerce then..

You sold Bloomberg et al the usual lies that the Nigerian chamber of commerce spits out daily backed by the propaganda from the Nigerian bureau of statistics.

All false fake data based on a 200 million population, what you didn't tell them which they all later realized is that there has been no real census so we don't know if our population is 200 million or 50 million.

What they also realised was that of that fake 200 million population there is no middle class only a 1% elite and a 99% extremely poor class.

So now they all got angry and started pulling out their Forex. It's a matter of time before Dstv leaves too, I foresee them selling off to a local partner and devesting from the Nigerian economy. This year's Big brother Naija has recorded the lowest revenue ever!!

The politicians wasted years building concrete castles like Eko Atlantic city which their citizens can't afford instead of investing in human capital so they can sustain the middle class . Now the middle class is extinct in Nigeria.

Companies have no customers who can purchase their products .

Starlinks has sold less here in Nigeria than Kenya. Yet we claim to have 200 million while Kenya are around 20 million people, let that sink in .

Nigeria is fast fading and the president still thinks propaganda can fly. The world has seen the truth and they have run from your economy .
Kenya is growing in leaps and bounds every foreign company not found in Nigeria is in Kenya, From Microsoft to all the foreign airlines, to Lego to sharp to Sony to Asus to Siemens to Atlus to Ubisoft to every single foreign investor you can think of have offices in Kenya not Nigeria.

Until the citizens push for good leaders Nigeria will continue crashing more and more while you open threads on Nairaland wailing and blaming others for your problems instead of facing your leaders.

For those whose brains can't understand, this is something as trivial as gokart tracks. over 10 different huge tracks setup in Kenya and are extremely profitable....

https://destinationskenya.com/top-8-best-places-for-go-karting-in-kenya/

I think Lagos had one or at most 2. They have closed up since. Because they made No profit and the economy killed them long ago, why? The citizens in Nigeria are poor and can't afford such, against Kenya where their minimum wage is better and the people have much more disposable income because Kenya has a huge middle class.

The only business in Nigeria that survives are those for the extremely poor like pure water or those that carter to the 1% rich

Nigeria economy is finished

I have a sister, she is not a femisist and she doesn't tussle or try to stamp equality in my family..

Even thoor she is the most senior, in some matters, she takes the back 🔙 seat.. I do change it for her when even she tries to overstep her boundary..

Don't you see how illogical and emotional you sound most times trying to defend these people?

A lot of things are repugnant to a lot of people, still doesn't justify dehumanizing them and outrightly killing them.

Once upon a time, our culture also hated twin babies and saw them as evil and slaughtered them in their millions. Millions of innocent babies murdered in cold blood. our culture also hated albinos and killed them outrightly.
Our culture saw women as subhuman and just as properties of men.

"Our culture" is not the supreme guide you make it to be, it's not infallible. As a matter of fact, hoping for us to continue to do things the way we have been doing it for a thousand years is not the Flex you think it is.
Having to fall upon "culture" as a defense to hate on your fellow human beings who only want to be left alone and have no desire to inflict harm is cowardly.

And most importantly, these people are not foreigners, they are born and bred here, you cannot make them prisoners of their place of birth, they have no where else but this land to call their home, you can't chase them away simply because they want to live their lives the way they see fit. One without intent of harm. They have right to life just as much as you, the only time that right can ever be taken from them is if they deprive any other of their own rights.

Punishing them is oppression because they are different and it is not right, neither is it fair.
