casualobserver: The first true attribute is for people to make their choice at the poll without fear, intimidation, harassment or bribes. Failing to create such an environment and then claiming democracy after the fact is nothing but pure and utter stupidity that can only be supported by the idiots whose preferred candidate came out favourably at the end of the day. 1 Like |

The Presidency shouldn't be by inheritance and perpetuating oneself in power. I hope African leaders are learning lessons. The people are tired of fake democracy. Maybe we need to work out something better that aligns with our circumstances and specific needs. 2 Likes |

Pierocash: My friend I was around during Gowon era when we sang “to keep Nigeria one” in school so I have witnessed every military govt in Nigeria. You are clearly unintelligent enough to understand the difference between military and development and the military and civil liberties. My post (if you have any intelligence) was about civil liberties in a military era. Military govts may have certain advantages for economic development in a multiethnic diverse environment because precisely because they rule by decree and can violate your rights and civil liberties and do what is needed to get the job done. The problem is eventually the nature of the African beast always come up and they become intoxicated with power. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. In the end they become as corrupt as the civilians without any checks and balances except another coup and the citizens have few in any civil liberties. I have a friend who was picked up under Abacha for about 5 months, till today no one really knows what happened. I guess he was so scared to relate his experience. I also remember my father having to respray his cherished green Mercedes because the military decreed civilians can’t drive green cars. WTF? So feel free to go on with your nonsense glorifying the military. We know at heart you Ibos are not democrats. Others know every democratic cicvilian government no matter how bad has a fixed term. No one who has experienced military govts in Nigeria wants a return to that era no matter the deficiencies of civilian administrations. Except they are promoting a selfish agenda. 5 Likes |

Apart from Human Right abuse, we should give Kudos to the past military head of states, For the record, no civilian president, from the days of OBJ in 1999 to this present date has created a single State, nor LGA...no low cost housing estates..across the federation.no political will to jail corrupt politicians who has milked the nation dry nor the Super Civil servant that are living like Kings...courtesy to lootings of nations treasury |

firearcher: You got it right. We've had several coups in Nigeria. The 1984 coup which brought Buhari into power was most unnecessary. The politicians were doing well at that time in many states though the party at the centre was underperforming. That was the Jakande, Ambrose Alli, Bola Ige etc era. They did make a huge impact which we're still seeing today in terms of structures and institutions. The soldiers did their bit and kept the nation relatively united in fairness to them. At least, far better than what we have today. Still, democracy is better if we'll managed. 1 Like |

Pascal9: Are they really worse? How many assassinations since 1999 till date that are unsolved ? How many billions in dollars stolen since 1999? Has there been justice in Nigeria ? We cannot have a fair election since democracy returned . The only one with a bit of sanity was 2015 . Terrorism everywhere . Bokoharam sponsors are living large . People are stealing brazenly with little or No repercussions. You said the people are not ready . When they were ready with Endsars , what happened ? There is NO difference between what transpired and military rule . This last election , people were ready but alot of people were disenfranchised and couldn’t vote . Apart from rigging ( all major parties were guilty ) 1 Like 1 Share |

casualobserver:You were trying to sound sane until you mentioned ibos. The usual tribal mantra they churn out once they lose ground In any constructive argument. You are not honest, if you actually lived under any military regime like you posited then you lied to yourself. I gave you a vivid reply as regard human liberty under military compared civilian regimes by pointing you ibb must go protest compared to endsars and the outcome of both. But maybe you lack comprehension and couldn't decipher it You talked about just your friend. Go and read tales of woes by people who their loved ones were picked up by police and till today no one knows what happened to them. Did you read the reports of various incidents of police brutality and evil meted out to people during the panel setup by various states of which no justice to so many of them till date. Such evil never happened under military government. Or is it the case of executive disobedience to court orders you want to talk about under civilian governments? Even Abacha obeyed some court orders during his time, but no, the so-called civilian governments disobey court orders more than militaries. If you truly lived under any military government but still continue with this your assertions, it means you are living in self deceit. And you never answered my question about what the civilians built after I listed you few of many infrastructures built by military juntas. Reason being that, you really have nothing to point but just decided to go rogue on your submission. I am in no way agitating for a military coup ,But my point is that it will definitely be inevitable with the way things are right now in our land. 2 Likes 1 Share |

abacha was the worst military head of state But Nigeria politician have stolen more than him nigeria politician has killed more than him nigeria politician has destroyed the economy more than him Apart from filling the pocket of politicians, no civilian leader of any political class has better any military regime in terms of performance Even buhari the worst of either military or civilian rule, performed better as a military head than as a civilian head 1 Like 1 Share |

Pierocash:It will always be so when the people are passive and less ambitious. When the citizens lack unity. Military rule makes no difference. Only dim wits will celebrate takeover because living condition will still not improve, rather they will also steal with reckless abandonment. Let the people themselve develop intrinsic life values and things will change. Let me tell you. Give or take, we feel more human under under people rule than military. |

Sonnobax15: If in a democratic setting, people can be power hugs, imagine what will happen in under military. Elections will not even hold in a coup setting so their is no hope of power changing hand. However this is a Reflection of African democracy, it is inherent in Africans to want to hold on to power. Why don't we practice a semi constitutional monarchy like most Arabian Monarchy. Have a Monarch, as a traditional head, then elect Prime Ministers. |

Pierocash: Just like your previous dribble, you are posting nonsense. I mentioned Ibo because I went through your posts. You people have a penchant for always wanting things your way and bringing down the house if you don’t get it. It must be said. Every time the Ibos are not in concert with the Centre they bring or attempt to bring the house down. It’s also what you do anywhere you reside. The coups going on in French speaking Africa are a fight for true independence. If you are knowledgeable you will know that French speaking West Africa are independent only on paper. It is not the same as the goings on in NIgeria or Ghana or other Anglophone countries. Your issue isn’t governance but your ego and penchant to always win and dominate others. It is a trait that makes is difficult for you to accept defeat no matter how fair the contest. It is the trait that makes you successful in business but also the same trait that means you don’t mix well with others and so there is always conflict when enough of you accumulate in an area. Human relations is different from business. In business you can bully your competition and wipe them out. In human relations you can’t always win, human relations is about compromise….a trait severely lacking amongst the majority of your people which is why you never do well in politics outside your region. I am at least glad to see people like Umahi who truly understand politics is about compromise and trust. Disappearing under the military is different from disappear under a civil government, at least in a civilian govt your people can make noise and raise alarm. Finally it is not tribal mantra, it is a real thing. Why are you always the ones in conflict with everyone else? 1 Like 1 Share |

casualobserver: Buhari supporters nearly brought the country down in 2011, and there were threats during the other years too. (Sharia law implementation was a way of telling OBJ to better not leave some people behind). It isn't just Igbos. Assuming Tinubu lost, all the APC supporters would have been hailing the coup by now.(See Niger, and before them Mauritania. Oppositon comes and backs army rule all of a sudden). Otherwise, your post makes good points. |
