It's that cameroun own that annoys me the most. When I was in primary school doing current affairs the answer to " Who is the president of Cameroun" is Paul Biya. Through out my stay in primary, to secondary school, my first degree, masters and years of working the president of Cameroun is still Paul Biya angry

I don't understand the tolerance level of those countries u listed honestly. And it's not even as if those long term rulers have developed those countries over time to enviable standards.
There's this song we sing in primary school
Since I was born and now I am getting old I have never the lord changing
Cameroon should remix that song, this man was president since 1982 I wasn't born then up till now he's still the one

You cannot claim to be a democratic nation and keep conducting shambolic elections that suppresses the will of the people and not expect me to be happy when the military intervene.

You don see this? Africans are waking up.

It's usually people who have travelled out of those African countries and have seen how a country is supposed to work that usually take it upon themselves to challenge those sit-tight leaders like we see in the video. I'm sure there will be people resident in cameroun who will want the status quo to remain as far as Paul Biya being president is concerned

Funny thing is when they conduct such election... The EU/AU/US/EC0WAS/ won't issue ultimatum or sanction to the States involved. This is not the type of democratic institutions the West sold to West Germany, Japan & South Korea after the 2nd World War.

You excluded the part where Ali Bongo (what a name by the way) got the senate to agree to a law that allows him to APPOINT senators. Yes, APPOINT senators.

There's something about central Africans that is just insane. If you look at Gabon's neighbours, there's a very lamentable trend to be observed:

Cameroon- Paul Biya - President since 1982 till date

Equatorial Guinea - Theodoro Nguema - President since 1979 till date

Central African Republic - Jean Bedel Bokassa ruled from 1966 to 1979...this one even coronotated himself as Emperor Bokassa I of Central Africa (Google it)

Burundi - Pierre Nkurunziza - President from 2005 until his death in 2020

DR Congo - Mobutu Sese Seko ruled 1965 -1997,deposed in a coup by Laurent Kabila 1997-2001, whose son Joseph then ruled from 2001 - 2019, after his father's assassination.

Congo Brazaville - Dennis Ngueso - President from 1979 till date.

These people are literally insane.

Talking about insane don’t forget that Nguema himself took over from his uncle who had been ruling since 1968 and was a definite sociopath.

You are indeed right that Central (and other parts of) Africa has problems.

Macias Nguema and Idi-Amin were sociopaths. Bokassa was a cannibal.

Funny enough, the opposite was the case for nigeria in this past election.

It is the same everywhere and Nigeria 🇳🇬 is worse,we have people who want the status quote to remain so long as their party is in power.

Togo has been ruled by an Eyadema since 1967. The father ruled from 1967 to 2005 and the son took over immediately in a very notorious and unconstitutional manner.

The truth is that not all coups are military, and a civilian coup is actually more dangerous because it often hides underneath a cloak of legitimacy.

I think you've indeed stated facts. It's true that we are progressing albeit very slowly in our values but nonetheless it's frustrating personally knowing and seeing how slow that progress is. And worst of all, knowing that you are personally ahead of the curve so are doomed to be persecuted for holding a position which seems broadly despicable but inevitable in the future.

You are not ahead of the curve kankan

You that don't know what to do if your son comes to you as gay whether or accept him or not, yet you are here running your mouth.

You are just a confused hypocrite who will say anything as long as you think its trendy.

You have become unbelievably dense recently.
I don't think you understand what that last statement means because evidence before you shows that most of my positions here are as unpopular and untrendy as can ever be. An atheist in a strongly religious dominated space. A liberal pro-gay advocate in an intensely homophobic group. To top it off, supporting a tiny political party against the establishment long before anyone else here joined that support.

I really don't think you understand what it means for something to be "trendy" because my positions here have been anything but trendy.

And lastly, saying I don't know why you keep repeating this "my son" issue. It's a theoretical question dealing with soo many unseen variables. I have told you that I know what is the right thing to do, standing with your son over all odds. But one cannot tell the nature of the odds whether it's even a life or death situation, so me telling you a yes or no is me grandstanding at best which is ironically what you are actually accusing me right now of doing.

Please put more efforts into your thought processing. It would elevate the quality of the discuss here.

Those leaders came to power because those countries were not equipped for a post-colonial existence. And yeah Bokassa was pretty awful but aside his cannibalism (which he claimed was accidental grin) i think Nguema would give him a run for his money. Nguema was so bad his own family planned the coup that removed him.

Conservative-leaning people are so funny, because today they would swear woke people are taking over the world and converting people; at other times they'll tell you that woke ideas are unpopular and are frowned upon all over the world as per cultural and more reasons. Like stick to one. Like these people literally taunt 'liberal' people for the shame, mockery, ostracism, bigotry and prejudice they face. Like, 'you choose to go against the community as a whole, so soak up the punishment you're getting.'

How are the same set of "deviant" people responsible for upturning the world now?

This is the man that Tinubu presented to Nigerians, packed his cabinet with his stooges and then remained silent as they sent this great country down the bottom of the pit.

Trendy does not necessarily mean popular. A particular position can be fringe/unpopular, but trendy.
