They were talking about Interoception which they likened to a sixth sense. This is different from what your scientist touted as a sixth sense which he called something like a gut instinct. Those are different concepts. Read them again.
In science, a concept needs to have a distinct and constant characteristics or properties for it to be accepted. Right now, sixth sense doesn't have one. All the senses in the body have distinct properties and modalities. No so for your sixth sense

There are symptoms and there are signs. Symptoms are what patients tell us. Signs is what we elicit on exam(whether clinical or investigations). Yes we can predict when a patient is lying about some symptoms, eg pain or fever. But we can predict symptoms like headache(even though EEGs give us a hint). So we still need patients to give us inputs via symptoms.
