18L Of Petrol For 36KM Distance by Jollos(m): 6:21pm On Sep 05, 2023 |
Good day NL, I use a pathfinder 4.0L engine V6, today I covered a distance of 36km on a very bad road. The journey lasted for 3hrs non stop due to the bad road. With some heavy load inside the car at some point during the journey. Pls is 18L fuel not on the high side for a journey of 36km although on a very terrible bad road. |

Jollos:That is very poor fuel usage. You using a liter for just 2km. Work on your fuel systems. |

esiri4jesu: I was surprised, I bought the fuel by myself, but I noticed it wasn't consuming dat much on highway. Today consumption just kept me curious. |

Jollos:personally I would say it is difficult to say. Because 1. you were probably moving at crawling speed due to the bad road. 2. at some point you carried very heavy load. Do you notice vehicle manufacturers usually give 2 mpg ratings i.e urban and highway. This is because both conditions are different. And have you also noticed urban driving which is basically stop and go uses up more fuel than highway driving? in your case, even though the journey only lasted for 3 hours, you cant judge your fuel economy based on that as it is not an ideal situation to guage fuel consumption to get a better view do the following, try to find out how much fuel your vehicle will consume if you travelled 36km of a free way. 6 Likes |

AutoMoTech: Thanks for your contribution, I will do as u suggest. But I was thinking since the Engine run for 3hrs nonstop on bad road to cover 36km. Won't it cover more on highway when the road is good for the same liters of fuel for 3hrs? It's still comes down to ur suggestions sha |

Jollos: Considering the weight of that vehicle; plus your loads, 3hrs+ drive duration, couple with the road conditions and driving habit; I personally don't see anything wrong with its MPG. 3 Likes |

Itulah: Thanks for your contribution, Am considering doing same trip on highway with same liters of fuel. because for example Lagos to Ibadan shld be btw 45m-1hr and the km is more than 36km that i cover in 3hrs on a bad road. Which means I shld have done to and fro Ibadan within dat 3hrs with the same fuel I don't know if am making sense |

esiri4jesu:4.0L engine, 3hrs journey, bad road, load in the SUV and you say he has poor fuel usage. Do you even know the mpg of the 4.0L Nissan Engine? 2 Likes |

Nothing may be wrong with the pathfinder. The conditions you stated are not what one can consider city or highway driving. Off road, SUVs consume a lot of fuel not to talk of driving with heavy load for duration of 3hours. Check again on normal road city/highway before you say that the car has issues. |

Moving on higher gear save more fuel on the long run. When we talk about city driving it depends on the city planning. You can’t compare Lagos city with other cities. Living you car idle for 3 hours will consume more than 9L for 4.L engine. Most manufacturers will say 2L per hours v6 3.0 engine idling. But in practical and other factors in this country it will pass such claimed. Let say for example yours consume 2.5L -3L per hour on idle that’s about 7.5 - 9L. If you add other factors like load and the mpg into consideration it’s not bad. 2 Likes |

Does this car have check engine light on? If it has check engine light, what are the codes? If you like de fly your car, once it has check engine light, the fuel economy can never be okay as per manufacturer specs or anything close. |
