Just about an hour ago I was driving in a particular area on the mainland, I had to park cos the vehicle in ahead of me being driven by a woman was waved down by good samaritans to park. We got down and discovered that they were having a wild masquerade festival procession in the morning on a workday o.

I engaged the people standing by waiting for the procession to end and they said it's a masquerade festival which will last for 7 good days and all business owners, shops and markets within the community were barred from opening for the whole 7 days. There were youths wielding cudgels, long fat canes going about to enforce the business center closure.

I was miffed that in this age and time businesses will be asked to close down for 7 days because some people want to practice their religion; Yet when the month ends Local government will go to those business owners to collect rates and levies. I don't think these things should still be happening

Na North I first see this thing. Road wey be interstate road o, the mosque is close to the road so people observe prayers both within and outside the moque on fridays and they extend to the main road. Travellers don't usually have choice but to park and wait till the the prayers are over and the crowd disperse.
