Gerrard59: Yes but you need to save enough money to flip your money leading to making more money. You need to grow in your liquid fund to be able to do some very vital things in your life. One of them is mortgage, if you move abroad & need to pay deposit for your house. For example using Google as reference, an average house in the UK cost around £303,557, in USA average house is around $416,100. For 20% down payment of: £303,557 x 0.20 = £60,711, and 20% down payment of: $416,100 x 0.20 = $83,220. If you don't have good liquid, then where do you pullout that sort of heavy cash from? Will you pull it out from your investments?. Another advantage of being liquid is quick investment opportunities. I know some few people, who live in the North that took advantage of Crypto/Bitcoin bull run in 2020, because their parents had so much liquid, they took it & invested in crypto, got almost x10 of it in just 1 year. If I had OP's targeted 100M during 2020 bull run, I would have been a Billionaire by now buy taking that singular advantage. 1 Like |

ogbonti: There's very, very few people that won't do better for themselves by migrating from Nigeria to the USA, even as an illegal immigrant. This I know from loooong experience and observation. I've explained all this in detail in previous comments. Anyone living in Nigeria who earns ₦500K per month thinks they're on top of the world and why won't they when only 0.4% of Nigerians earn ₦200K per month and 97.7% of banks accounts have less than ₦500K. If ₦500K is such a big deal, then for most people, moving to any Anglo-Western country is a very good move....₦500K is less than $600, just think about it. Even 30 years ago working illegally as a restaurant cook, I was sending THOUSANDS of dollars to Nigeria several times a year and yes I worked multiple jobs and had a roommate. Today a restaurant cook starts at $11/hr in my corner of North Carolina. That's at least $1200 per month after tax. It's a start, with time most people move on to better jobs but as I've repeatedly explained, I know people who've worked these low skill jobs for over 25 years and they own homes, multiple cars, eat well and put their children through university. I've literally seen it happen for several families from beginning to present day...from marriage up till today in this USA. Nigeria can't provide such a lifestyle for unskilled workers. As for skilled workers, well doctors max salary in Nigeria can never be more than ₦1million/month. Move that same doctor to the USA and the LOWEST TAKE HOME PAY for a brand new doctor, after tax, is over $7,000 per month and I'm being very conservative. I'm intimately familiar with the oil & gas industry, the salary of engineers basically TRIPLES when they move from Nigeria to here. Even 10% of their earnings can be saved and translates to an amount that VERY FEW people can earn in Nigeria. As for your comment on house ownership, well in Nigeria the government can take your house for ANY REASON, even if you pay every levy and tax and anything else because the land belongs to them. Not only that, ANYONE with enough money can induce the police or other government officials to start contesting your ownership of landed property in Nigeria. I've seen this and I know you've seen it too, But it's OK, in any case Nigerians are voting with their feet. If the UK offered free entry to all Nigerians, half the population would flee and you know it. There's good reason for that. The 400% rise in the price of a bag of rice since 2014 is enough. Good Luck to Nigerians. 3 Likes |

tosinhtml: It's not even about the wage. It's about HOW EASY it is to earn the money and then cost of living. Nigeria and Switzerland are VERY expensive places to live in. Just calm down, read your comment again, are u happy with ur level of public display? Bro, life no too hard. Dont be too frustrated, pls. You responded to me first, I replied. There was no need for all the insults. My comment was targeted at some Nigerians who paint abroad as once u land, u blow and once u are born there, u are made. If u are not in that class, you had no reason to reply me in the first place. Next time, learn to be civil while discussing with anyone. I never insulted u.Omo, una weak me for this country. Procashtips: Like I said, I really have nothing to contest with you….. I’m currently based somewhere in uk , hence I’m not telling what I don’t know… When I say “Equal before the law” in this context I’m not talking about how Mr A treats Mr B… What I’m saying here is that… Whether u are rich, middle or lower class, everyone is equal before the law. The hospital a lower / middle class man visit is same one the rich visit. You don’t have to be rich to buy a house, or good vehicle or use latest gadgets…. I really have nothing to contest with u… perhaps you are the one who need to leave the shore of Africa and stop vetting false information from social media……..Shalom |
Re: After JAPA - How Long It Took To Make Your First 100 Million by IbeOkehie: 11:02pm On Sep 10, 2023 |
stagger: OK if you say so, but Nigeria definitely has a higher cost of living compared to India, Italy, USA & UK when comparing equal quality of goods and services. I know because I took the time to do the surveys in real time. Add in the ease or difficulty of earning the money and Nigeria is hellish. I mean which fast food cook or security guard in Nigeria owns a car and can afford to live in a modern apartment with 24hr electricity & running water? None. Procashtips: It's not that bad in the USA or UK, it simply isn't. There's more discrimination, bigotry and racism in Nigeria than in the USA or UK. Yes, everyone isn't equal, but the CONSEQUENCES of inequality are definitely more harmful in Nigeria. Police brutality? Here's your Presidential Guard in action against civilians in Abuja. This simply can't happen in any Anglo-Western nation. Estimates of hundreds killed and buried in mass graves. And the military later made a movie about it, but that's another story https://www.nytimes.com/video/world/africa/100000006196505/nigeria-military-protest-massacre-video.html Oh, as for employment substantively all the 10 highest paid CEO's of quoted companies in Nigeria are Asians or Europeans. That's mighty strange for the Giant of Africa methinks. Good Luck to Nigerians |

IbeOkehie: your mind is made with your salary biases and conversion to dollars - without factoring in the standard of living - IT IS WELL Bro, whatever floats your boat- that same Nigeria you are fleeing and advising others to leave - a LEBANESE boy of 21 years is arriving Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos from Beirut, Lebanon tonite seeking the Nigerian dream of large easy market, less restrictions, friendly tax system He has just $1,000 in his pocket, (less than N1m) He is going to scavenge the streets of Nigeria - look for trade opportunities, loopholes in our system to exploit, start a trade in Kano, Abuja or Lagos - be resilient - focused and he will be worth $5 million in 10 years from today - trading and doing business in Nigeria- Where we see challenges in Nigeria, these Lebanese, Indians, and Chinese see massive opportunities. FYI - Chinese are buying up cassava farms in Edo and Ekiti States. processing Garri - packaging it and sending it to EUROPE and AMERICA making hundreds of millions of dollars annually and we are running away to go to Europe and buy the same Garri produced by Chinese in our own country - no be JUJU be that ? And you will have a Nigerian doctor fleeing Nigeria - will spend 5 years of his life writing licensing exams in the US - Finally gets it, finds his feet after a few odd postings in a few years to rural America where no American doctor wants to work - and then he goes for Masters and as soon as he gets the American degree - he amasses liabilities of a home he can barely afford (the I DON ARRIVE MENTALITY) in a high brow area and gets sunk in debt living with the joneses. And in 30 years, he can not boast of $150k in his account - BEFORE YOU ARGUE with me, I have 5 doctors in my family - all here in AMERICA; Uncles, Aunties, Cousins - I observe them at close quarters - they are not better off than some of us doing regular middle class jobs because they have REGULAR money issues too like us - I cant mention here - FACT!!! just watch the video below - a fellow Nigerian doctor (not a keyboard warrior on nairaland who types based on emotions - watch!! ogbonti: Really? If it's so easy to make $5 million in Nigeria why are so many people trying to escape the country? The Lebanese guy might make it because Nigeria discriminates in favor of Arabs, Asians and Europeans. So if you're any light skinned race, yes Nigeria is the place to make it. I've lived in the USA for over 30 years. This is my real name, I have nothing to hide. I started out working illegally as a fast food cook. I know what I'm writing about. You can believe whatever you want, just remember that even poor migrants contribute to the $10 to $25 billion in remittances to Nigeria from abroad. Have a good night. |

IbeOkehie: Bro, if not that I do not want to expose or embarrass some guys i know in naija by exposing their identities, I will tell you of some guys making cool millions of dollars annually in Nigeria - these are guys (Nigerians) black like me and you doing legit hussles in Lagos, Abuja, Kano etc who earn what you make a year in America in 2 weeks in Naija - they are not into drugs or yahoo - just BUYING and SELLING merchandize in that same naija you are encouraging people to flee - I DO NOT WANT TO MENTION THEIR NAMES BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT LIKE THAT PUBLICITY - these are up to 20 guys who are not more than 40 years old. in that same naija you and I left to come to America - Guy, even if you do not have any business sense - IN that LAGOS, if you channel N2M to sell food - dont cook ooo - just be the one collecting the money from customers who came to eat - employ 5 calabar cooks to specialize on just jollof rice ---- eba and egusi soup only - 3 stewards to serve customers food in an area that moves (busy) - just be focused and be a good manager of your workers and people friendly - and let the food be tasty - dude - in 1 year, you will be making at least 3 MILLION a month as profit -- do you know how much people pay to eat a day in Lagos ? imagine IF you have 84 customers a day-- average of 7 customers an hour (BETWEEN 10am to 10PM - 12 HOURS ) who eat an average of N700 a plate of food - that is N70K A DAY --- we are not even talking of drinks oooo - thats roughly N1.5 MILLION a month- IF YOU CAN PLOUGH BACK just N400K MONTHLY - and lets say the rest go into paying salaries and food stuff and you are resilient - you will have N5M at the end of the year to modernise the location you are right now and then open another branch in town - PUT YOUR WIFE THERE TO BE COLLECTING THE MONEY - while you employ good cooks and stewards to run the place while she watches And before you bring out calculator to start calculating what N2M is in dollars, do not forget, N2M will do for you in Nigeria what $3,500 will do for you in America and even more - For example - your annual house rent in a fairly nice area for a 2 bedroom flat in Lagos will BE like N2M to N2.5M a year ----- thats like $3,000 abi? that same money is like your 2 and half month rent in America - you see the difference While this man selling food in Lagos will be building his house in Nigeria - in his village, in the city or capital of his home state, living life to the fullest with his family and friends in the land of his birth, that man making $2,500 after paying bills will not be able to save $400 (FACT) Rent - $1,000 AVERAGE Light - $150 Average Cable TV + Internet - $150 AVERAGE Car insurance $150 average car notes $400 average Gas $120 average Food + Grocery $400 average (that is IF you are the miserly shopper who is shrewed) Oga - if you venture say you want to hang out with friends to drink beer or go on a date - YOU WILL END UP TAKING A PAY DAY LOAN ----- IN BETWEEN PAY PERIODS When you make $2,500 net (after taxes and deductions) monthly, it means you are earning between $20 - $22 an hour at least - How many Nigerians that are less than 3 years in America make such money ? Am talking about vast majority of all these japa enthusiast here on nairaland ? Many will end up in AFRO SHOP making $300 a week and having a room mate and will sot be able to save $200 a month sef - no matter how austere they live or how hard they try - because the salary will not be constant when a naija or african person is your Boss - and he or she can sack u anytime threatening you with immigration - we hear all that stories all the time from the grapevine Make I stop here - please stop selling false hope to these people ..... Let them know the truth and IF THEY DECIDE TO GO, FINE- at least they have been warned of what awaits them there. |

Nigeria the paradisal money garden where every seed planted will grow? In the same Nigeria where an Oba can wake up one fine morning and claim your house and you have to drag it with him in court. Nigeria where airport officials will push you to the back of the line and jump over themselves to cater to Oyibo or Asians. That same Nigeria? So UNDP or IMF or whoever made a serious error in crowning Nigeria as the Poverty Capital of the World? Abeg tell me something, I have a lot to learn. You can have it....thanks. Harkynkunle: I repeat again, no one is equal before the law anywhere. Tony Blair of the UK is a free man for an offence similar to what they claim Putin is doing which has made ICC place Putin up as a wanted war criminal. Similar offence committed by George Bush, Obama and their likes, these guys are walking free. Same with other smaller cases all over the west, there are more dark skin people in prison in the west than those with Caucasian skin for the same offence. I don't expect you to know or agree because you see them as angels, saints and your savior, so I won't type further. For you to claim everyone is equal there is so naive. 1 Like |

IbeOkehie: that is why you an immigrant can afford to work a low paying job and send your kids to university and build houses in Nigeria and people born in America will never have anything to their name in all their years in life - becasue you came to AMERICA - and you are seeing opportunity where those born here see challenges and excuses - same for the Chinese and LEBANESE who fly in broke and end up making millions in Nigeria- it is a universal principle - when something is too available to you - you procrastinate and you make excuses, BUT when you pay for it, when you strive to achieve it, you value it - I use to have a friend who made up his mind to return to Nigeria after just staying 6 months here in America - one word by his father kept him going - "who will you tell in Nigeria you went to America and you returned empty handed, son, please stay there and make it, please" - he labored for years - with very little to show for it, while his younger brother was raking in millions as a procurement contractor in Port Harcourt. He is finally in P/H now and he calls me sometimes - He told me the progress he made in P/H in 4 years was way more than the 10 wasted years he spent in AMERICA - let us not even talk about marriage and family life... How many naija men are happily married in AMERICA ? with all the dollars in their pockets? they even envy regular Nigerians who own POS shops and married the women of their dreams back home - S EX? hmmmmm most naija men in the west do not even get layed for months by their wives due to stress and issues of living in the western world - GUY chill ooo - we know whats up here oooo Make I stop - biko, later |
