People are at Liberty to Migrate however they so wish. The problem I have is with the Dumb Nigerians who after migrating starts insulting and cursing their Countries of Origin. Motherfvcker!! Even if you stay in the UK or Canada for 3000 years, they will never consider you one of them. You will always be "the black monkey from a Shitty African Countries" according to them. So why not migrate, learn the developmental strides/processes there and comeback to impact on your 'real home' instead of insulting your ancestors just for the pale skinned man's acceptance that will never happen.

This excerpt from yr post says it all.

"First They are still in DENIAL.."
.......
"I don't know if you know... but our brain is defensive in nature, it will automatically switch straight to denial mode..."

Only those rooted in human psychology will understand these excerpts. When beliefs are challenged, the human mind puts up a defence to counter that challenge. This is when the ancestor brain i.e. the limbic 6tem or emotional brain takes hold of an individual and shuts out the neocortex(thinking brain).
Only an infinitesimal few can handle the moment if they are caught up in such situation.

I absolutely agreed with all you said but having lived abroad for 10 years, I still believed some people are not good candidates to Japa. First, people who are established in Nigeria. Why would someone who have a career, stable job and a house sell everything and move abroad? They are right about quadrupling their income but when you factor tax and bills, they will end up at ground zero at the end of the month. The second type of people that should NEVER try Japa are people who are advance in age. Why should a retired person take his gratitude, sell his house and move to US thinking miracles who somehow happen? I know a very distant cousin who sell his property, add his pension and moved to US in his late 60's. He has stroke and dementia and still has to work cos he has not work long enough to qualify for social security income and neither is he a citizen. Older people, don't try it. You will definitely regret it.
Younger, unemployed, underemployed should by all means leave Niaja for real. The situation is hopeless back home and it can't get worse as long as you do not Japa to countries that are worse off compare to Nigeria. Do your research, invest time and plan before you move is always my advice.

gforce5:
Mimi, I understand that you are giving your opinion based on your personal experience abroad. I spent a quarter of my life abroad before moving back to Nigeria so i know the downsides of living in a white man's country. However, you do not understand why Nigerians are desperate to leave the country by any means necessary as you don't live in Nigeria and you aren't experiencing the HELL so many people are going through in this country. So many people are disillusioned with the state of the country. We are talking about a country that is only designed for only the rich to thrive. The poor do not have any chance. That is why prostitution, yahoo, drugs, rituals and fraud have become the norm.

A lot of young people are disenfranchised with the system. The middle class has been wiped out. You are either rich or poor. Education has now become the right for only the rich. Many individuals have seen their standard of living drop in by 80% in the past 10 years. The list of problems is endless. I also assume that you probably have a second passport so you don't understand what the average Nigerian goes through when they travel abroad for different reasons. Just come and experience living in Nigeria for 3 months. Then you will understand why people want to Japa by force.

Me I have stopped advicing anyone because they will never hear word. Everybody should do whatever they like. Husband will be working in GTB Bank as a Manager. Maybe wife is working in one good job too in Corporate Nigeria. Typical High-Middle Class family with Teenage kids or kids that are about 8years to 10 years. Rather than think of how to capitalize on their gains, they will now sell all their property and come and "hustle' abroad. Can you tell me which hustle they want to start doing abroad at 40 to 50 years of age? Why not.look for money to send your kids to come school abroad? The risk to reward ratio is just too high if they fail. Japa may not work for you. Now what?

Atleast if you must Japa eventually do it legally and not through visiting visa,or other shady means.

Another dissertation on Japa....if you are skilled and your skill sets are in high demand in a foreign country that better appreciates it, do well and relocate.

Whenever I read about racism in such dissertation, I instantly assume the writer means tribal bigotry that catwalks boldly in Nigeria and in many African countries is a non issue.

A stable life with a sense of order,is what many desire, it is not just about the money.

I will prefer to save £300 monthly after all deductions and expenditures than saving N500K monthly in Nigeria (which less than 0.5% of Nigerians can in Nigeria)

You can say this again!!

Nawa.

God bless for what you wrote.

A lot of guys don't voice out their opinions anymore on Nairaland, because of these penchant knack to abuse others, for any contrary opinion.

The OP voiced her opinion, and it's not as if she said, people shouldn't leave the country, but just to be careful of your expectations when you finally travel out.

Sir I'm certain you didn't read my entire note, or you simply don't get my point. I'm not telling anyone not to Japa, it's a free world... I'm only revealing the dark side of the moon, Which everyone deserve to know about too atleast before making a life decision. What's not fair is basing your decision entirely only on the bright side of the moon. I'm not wicked sir... And never will.

This is my real name. I live in North Carolina in the USA...lived here for about 20 years, moved back to Nigeria for a couple years and now back to USA. For a full digest of my views on this topic you can read my comment history.

When a poster very glaringly LIES to the community, they have lost credibility. No one should listen to them.

You wrote this:

Look... Somehow all these countries are intelligently designed In such a way that it take back almost entirely everything you make out here from you one way or the other... Through tax, through mind blowing bills or random expenses around every corner.

So how did I build houses in Nigeria? How come the majority of residential homes in Nigeria are built by Nigerians abroad? Cash savings, that's how it's done!

Cash savings is how Nigerians abroad are able to send $10 to $25 billion back to Nigeria every year and that's just the FORMAL transfers, not the unrecorded cash in luggage and goods. For comparison the budget of the Federal Government of Nigeria has been around $20 billion for the past 10 years.

Summary is that you LIED. Most Nigerians that move abroad send lots and lots of money to Nigeria. You know it and I know it. No one should take you seriously when you lie so simplistically. Everything else you write is thus suspect. Yes, MimiYouLied!

Nice topic though, very reliable way to generate traffic.

Good Luck to Nigerians!

It's a pity that most people don't really know what is going on out there. Abroad is a good place to stay but if there is anyway to send your money home for investments, please do. Most of the money you make there will go back into the system. I have lived in Europe for good two years and I can say one or two things about Europe.

Also if you are above 45 years, please do a lot of research before you move. It takes time before you can get your documents.

Netherlands is a good place to live but if you have a study permit.

Please do you have any useful info about the Netherlands?

my neighbors son was robbed last month, august 2023,
he was fortunate to reach out to me, and others, and we were able to inform the police to go to his estate
this was around 1am

the police went to the estate,
arrested everybody in the estate,
in the middle of the night
accused the tenants of having an insider amongst there midst
threatened to shoot them all if they don't confess
beat them all mercilessly

we bailed him that night for 150k.
we bailed the person that called the police for help, for 150k
the others who couldn't pay slept in station for days

in 2019, i was robbed in my house,
my phone was stolen
i hid my drone and other valuables
the phone was worth about 60k
i went to the police station (kala police station, ikwerre road)
the police asked me for 100k to 'start investigations'
i was perplexed, and queried the reason behind this
the police threatened to 'deal with me' and arrest me for making 'false report'
a state commissioner came into the police station with some people he had arrested with his personal police security
all the police men left me to hail him, he dropped some money for them as well as the people he arrested
i ran out of the police station

the former governor of bayelsa state. alameseigha, a multi billionaire died in UPTH
because they had to drive him a very long distance to the hospital, if i remeber correctly, from bayelsa to rivers state
a billionaire!
for something that in 'the abroad', an ambulance would have been ready in minutes,
he drove for hours

Explore to see the beautiful world you are in before you exit this world. As for me, even if I have 1 billion in my account, I will still travel. Because I see no sense in it if I don't. You stated that 3% make it while 97% are suffering abroad which is a bloody fallacy, even if you choose to assume stats.

Do you think everyone gives a hoot about amassing wealth. What about just living in a sane environment? Every adviser against Japa equates people's migration motives to be linked with money. Don't you see how bad Nigeria's political and legal systems are? Do you know what people who live in some parts of the North, remote villages contend daily regarding kidnapping, tribalism, hunger, hardship and terrorism. Stop this myopic sentiments!

People migrate for different purposes. Even with the taxes and NI and what nots you pay in the UK you still get services you pay for and enjoy a safe and secure system. In Europe or wherever you reside, do you see high fences or gates? Can you live like that with opulence in Nigeria without police escorts, or security dogs to protect you? There are many metrics that makes Nigeria a bad place to live at the moment because you are hanging on a thread of eventuality. Medical care is for the extremely rich. You think I'm lying? Go to Lasuth, Gbagada or other general hospitals and see people dying to be attended to. A citizen in an hospital waiting to see a doctor is like a prisoner on deathrow. No hope.

Come down from your high horse and see that the hope is no longer in this system. If not for biological determinism that makes you a child of an opulent family, do you think you won't be contemplating JAPA now. People have enough reasons to leave the country and its not only financial!

I beg to disagree.
You have to experience a bone fracture to "actually" know what it feels like.

Your understanding of the Nigerian circumstances is at best, watered down. That you feel you hear and see enough on the media, so should be a solid foundation upon which you form definitive opinions, is a shallow reasoning in and of itself (no disrespect intended).

No human is stupid enough to believe money grows on trees anywhere. Nigerians just want enabling environments and societies that reward commitment, hardwork and honest efforts. Very reasons we don't mind taking up demeaning jobs in foreign lands, so long as we get to reap the fruits of our labour.

And with due respect, you have no moral standing to be sitting in a foreign land and attempting to play down the hopes and beliefs of other Nigerians, under the guise that you're rendering advice. Even amongst Americans, not everyone is favoured by the American society. So Nigerians have every right to explore their alternatives and let he who finds grace, bask in the euphoria of it, whilst the man who reaps only regrets returns to learn the requisite lessons.

Life has never been meant to be understood. It is meant to be lived and explored, with everyone playing individual roles.

Thank you ❤️❤️

The sad thing is that, Nigerians are the ones spoiling the name Nigeria, Most Nigerians travel abroad, and engage in internet fraud, like cyprus. 93% of Nigerian youths over there are internet fraudsters or into prostitution. Exactly the same reason UAE placed a ban on Nigeria.
