n3xt: You paid me ₦50k then promised ₦800k in 2 weeks, this was almost 4 months ago. You're here spending hours typing what people didn't ask you. Where is the money you dishonestly took from me? Do you want us to start all over again? When are you refunding my money in its millions with you? It's almost 2 years. You keep saying you're waiting for this and that. And yes, this was months ago You dont reply your chat nor pick your calls. I even told you to be paying in instalments if you are too broke to pay in bulk. You're here to deceive people again painting what you're not to attract victims. Bosun, until you vomit what you owe me, you can't have it here. Going forward, any new person that quotes you on this thread would be reminded of who you are so they don't fall victim. 8 Likes |

Hello guys, Can a roof woodwork be done such that it could serve for either longspan aluminum or Gerard tiles? If one is undecided (budget, price fluctuations etc.) on the roofing sheet to use and wants to proceed with the woodwork, how can this be done? Of course Gerard is the preferred option, but will the woodwork spacing also work if the decision is changed to longspan? Or some adjustment will be needed? P.S: I have always used long span for my flat roof designs in the past, this is the first time in a while I'll be doing hip roof. Thanks |

acorntree: For someone like me, I don’t apply cosmetic fix to structural issues. You’ll get burn out in the long run! Our problem in Nigeria is systemic but we keep flipping people and throwing monies on cheap solutions. You don’t stop recklessness and incompetence by simply changing people, you build systems that prevents it using technology. Talking about power issues, Nigerians only believe that government should provide adequate power supply but we don’t have the balls to hold them responsible. Instead, we simply jump on half baked solutions and accept them as a way of life and an acceptable standard of living. The picture below shows the former Vice President of Nigeria carrying a powerbank. That’s a typical mentality! Quick fix 😂 I’ve not had a need for powerbank in a long time because I’m staying in a place where electricity is 100% stable. And I never had to check if the battery is charging, low, optimized or underperforming. I just plug and play. #insidelagos Nigerians are fond of looking for cheap alternatives, shortcuts and wuruwuru solution to communal issues. This explains why we haven’t been able to address our electricity issue. We buy solar systems, portable generators, candles, rechargeable lantern, rechargeable touch lights and all sorts to keep life going while shying away from our major problem. In fact, some invest on silent cabin diesel generators are seen as sign of good living 😂😂 So to a typical naija man, my position is wrapped around flimsy excuses because I chose not to follow the crowd. Well, that’s why I’m me! 1 Like 1 Share

smokey12345: Check what I wrote, please. One 8x4ft of HDF or MDF leaf would be enough for one door, since OP is talking of inner door. The same thing is for using plywood. Where the dimension for entrance door is higher than that of inner door is when you may need a foot more of wood (provided the door is not that tall and wide, using jointers like mortise and tenon. Hard woods like oak may also be used, we are not that expensive. Having right tools, and be able to use it well, make woodworking looks like a walk-in-the-park. You can check how to use dowels too. |

For those who want to learn, and to make builders here realize that more is possible than what currently obtains in the market locally, let me share the full story. Some regulars here may recall my posts on the Nigeria Building Energy Efficiency Code (BEEC), if you are not aware, please search for it. One of the ways to meet that standard is the incorporation of renewable energy. Now I know that RE is not big in buildings in Nigeria. What I know is big today is smart homes. A number of players have made a lot of noise about building smart homes. But in an era where people are complaining about the cost of petrol to drive around time (the number of cars reduced as soon as the new President made the pronouncement that changed the status quo), a lot of people started rationalizing trips that they would have made without thinking twice, and a lot of people have either abandoned gas guzzlers or have bought and now use more often their more fuel efficient vehicles, a lot of people have also converted their generators to run on gas instead of petrol. Some have also responded to the increase in electricity tariffs by going solar either partially or wholly. To my mind, we have the perfect circumstances to begin thinking about building more energy efficient homes. Of course, there is more to building efficiency than RE but RE is a good start. Here is the full article (in this post and the one the follows)

For the solar experts, Is it possible to set up solar system without batteries in Nigeria? Just the panels and inverter. This is for business that would operate only during the day. |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by n3xt(m): 4:23am On Sep 13, 2023 |
nwaorlu: Sure, why not? You can have a solar system without batteries. That’s what they do in solar irrigation system and it works well. In 2016, while setting up NextHome Bricks+Stone, I went completely off grid. I had a DC pump by shurflo and 2 solar panel system. I still have the pump till date. ========= NB: I’m not a solar expert though. I don’t sell solar system and I do not intend to become one. I’m just an hobbyist who love to explore life. |

FEGEITOK: I understand all these things very well. From solar panels to tankless water heaters, automatic sprinklers systems, water conservation systems to purchase of energy star certified appliances and integration of smarthome techs, we’ve been on many these as far back as more than a decade on this forum. I am just tired and want out. All my systems (automatic gate, Phillips hue bulbs etc) as far back as 2013 are still working till date but I just want to declutter and live much more simple life Systems ti fé pò jù. nwaorlu:I've asked also when I wanted to set it for a business but was told I would need batteries. It may not be much but the charges would pass through the batteries. There are fluctuations in the charge controller readings. I think the batteries would ensure steady supply of electricity instead of fluctuating current supply. My personal opinion though. 1 Like |

n3xt: The water tank is the 'battery' in this setup. The solar pump will fill the tank intermittently but there is always a buffer to ensure adequate water drawoff. It is incorrect advice to suggest you don't need batteries for a process that, say, requires continuous power even if during the day. Sizing the battery to the barest minimum after evaluating the business needs might be better advice. Good day. 1 Like |

jabolo: I see. If the tank is the battery, what will be the battery when the same setup is used for irrigation? I know that Irrigation doesn’t need a tank |

n3xt: The 'battery' here is the volume afforded by the irrigation canals. |
