Nigeria Police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi has said young Nigerians always get extorted by Police officers because their means of income are not genuine.

Adejobi said this while responding to a post made by a user on X (formerly Twitter) handle @altruistglotv.

The individual reacted to a video of a young man on X, in company of his girlfriend, who was stopped, labelled a Yahoo boy and extorted by Police officers in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Commenting on the video, the individual called out the Police spokesperson for knowing about the extortion that takes place.

Uniform shouldn’t be a symbol of war to citizens, your officers are criminals, the way they extort young guys instead of politicians is too much. You know about this, you see it and hear it everyday. We have families, we have parents,” the X user said.

In his response, Adejobi said only young people with ingenuine incomes get extorted and questioned why those harassed always go ahead to pay the officers.

He said that if such a person has a genuine income then there is no point paying the officers.

Why do the young ones pay them? Someone who claims he doesn’t have work, he’s suffering, yet he pays 500k or 1m naira etc, how come? Adejobi said.

“I guess they are birds of the same feather. If you are genuine, you earn your income from your eork place, legit money, I dont think you would allow someone or some people to rob you of it. No way. My take.”

sad Can you imagine the kind of imbeciles Nigeria have law enforcement agency in the utterly corrupt Police force? Meanwhile, the same useless NPF is the same civil agency that can't provide security for the same young people forced into criminality by the irresponsible and corrupt elite the rather choose to protect their criminality.

A case of the protecting and shielding the morbidly corrupt big criminal fishes who often ended up eating the small fishes. Just like the corrupt PEPT, the law is now being applied based on sentiments( their whims and caprices.

This is a big fat lie. I have seen where police even threatened to kill an innocent young boy and throw his body into the bush and his family will not know. He has to part with all he had in his account to save his life.
There are a lot of young men that are making a fortune from content creation and cryptocurrency. Are these not legitimate income?

Very senseless of the police officer to say.

Majority of youths only succumb to extortion because of the palava and frame up the police officers will subject them were they not to pay.

The police force really needs a reform.

Am very ashamed this is coming from a police officer. Very ashamed!

What a silly thing to say.

The woman that was shot and killed in front of her husband at Abraham Adesanya roundabout last year didn't have a genuine means of income right?

Let's not even start talking about other different cases.

This is just d bitter truth many Nigerians will never want to agree with cos blacks like to lie to themselves a lot

Me n my friends have been stopped many times n I realize the only thing those police officers care about is what u do for a living n a proof of it, once u can present these things they will just tell u to find them something

But u see all those yahoo boys, imagine a small boy driving a Benz with his name on it n he doesn’t have any proof to what he does/did to acquire that, then police will extort him cos he’s into shady things

I just laugh when some people talk about police brutality, don’t let us lie to ourselves everyone knows d criminals among us….enter anywhere be it eatery, mall or anywhere n u will b able to recognize youths that are into shady things

From d lousy wear to useless hairstyles to different piercings n tattoos police identify them easily n once they know they are guilty then they will have to pay

Before u quote me ask yourself if all these things are lies, even my 7 year old neighbor son can point a yahoo boy on d street by observing his dressing alone

We all know d truth but we take delight in lieing to ourselves

Which work is a secondary school boy from a poor home is doing that is making him use a phone of 400k?

Which work is a university drop out with no job doing to suddenly buy Lexus?

Which work is a university student doing to build hostel in his school?

What work is a jobless person doing to suddenly start flaunting flashy things?

People will turn a blind eye n even tag anyone that tries to question them “ jealous “ “envious “ bad belle n co not knowing they are emboldening criminals

In Nigeria we celebrate the thief n insult the police but when our property gets missing we call on d same police we hate
