i Have mixed feelings about this one but I believe something has to be done to preserve our indigenous languages. How far this will help I’m not sure. Most people don’t even use what the studies in the university not to talk about a course they did I. 100 level that’s not related to their actual course of study. Lawmakers in Lagos should find ways of infusing the Yoruba language and culture into our everyday things that deals with our survival. Like corporate affairs, all public office engagements government publications etc. If a thing doesn’t affect our means of survival we won’t be bothered. Nigerians pay huge sums to learn foreign languages so as to qualify them to go and work In those countries. If we can create the conducive environment where survival is assured here, infusing our languages and culture into our daily engagements will become more fashionable. For now it’s just another course in the university that will almost not be useful for majority of those that will take it. 1 Like |

Won ti mark won pa... That's how it should be..Let us preserve our heritage by all means. Let us appreciate our language. Let our charity begin from our homes. We hailed the British when they employed Yoruba speakers as constables. We hailed the Americans when one of their states included the Yoruba language for their driving test likewise in Russia. If we don't preserve our local language, it will go into extinction in years to come.No foreigner will preserve it for us. We need more of this in all south western states. 1 Like |

Kudos to the Lagos State Assembly for passing this. Let our indigenous languages be a compulsory elective in the university. Make our indigenous language a must pass language like English and Mathematics for admission qualification into the universities. Next is teaching Science, Art, Commerce and Tech in our indigenous languages like it is done in Japan, China and Korea. 2 Likes |

Antivirus92:Yorubas have narrow way of thinking fuelled by a feeling of pomposity that Yoruba language is superior to other local languages. Ask the yorubas in the south south for them to be required to learn the dominant language in each of those state before they get driving licence, admission or job. You will see them cry foul. But ask for it to be done in south west, they will be very happy. Hypocrites, selfish and hateful tribe that is lazy, human ritual perpetuators and cyber crime lovers. Very disgusting people 3 Likes |

Ruke1989:What about the South East Universities like Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Anambra that make Igbo language a compulsory course. You should make your research well before criticizing people for making policy in their own states 1 Like

Ruke1989: What a negative mindset! Look at all the despicable things you wrote cos they included their own language (Yoruba) in their own university curriculum. Nobody forced you to attend LASU or send your children there. How many Yorubas are complaining about South Eastern universities? It's always you guys complaining about other people's land all the time... it's irritating! 🤢🤮 |

oranget: Thanks for uploading that news attachment. They won't conduct simple research before commenting, they'll just rush online and start attacking other tribes. Imagine something that was done by a south eastern university 10 years ago being done in Lagos now and they're complaining. 1 Like |
