While thinking and reminiscing, I am thinking of my childhood and growing up, as kids, whenever our fatger would come back from work, we would allwys all run out of the house through the backdoor at the sound of his car horn.

The biggest reason is immediately he is stepping in, he would start complaining about things not being in their right places.
Chores not being done or improperly done, house not clean enough and he would always have something to complain about in an angry tone of voice.

I came to believe it was his own way of dealing with a stressful day at work and over time, it kinda created some tensions between us.

I told myself, no matter what, if I had my own family, no matter the stress I pass through during the day, i would never take it out on the kids or wife.

So whenever i come back from work and i see chores not done properly, my father's reaction would flash in my mind and i would take a deep breath and go the opposite directio , ask the kids and wife how their day went.
and generaly chit chat about them without making them uncomfortable around me.

At the end, I might ask my son, "sweetheart, when are you going to wash the dishes? Even at the peak of a very stressful day, I would find a way to smile and go to my room in solitude.

Secondly, shouting at the children while correcting the. My dad as a true Nigerian man would yell at a high octave while correcting us and it frequently drives me crazy as a teenager.

With my kids and family, I practice a low even tone of voice while i am angry or making neccessary corrections. I find this to be very effective as it made the kids receptive and willing to change.

The results, kids are free with me and can discuss virtually everything in their lives with me.

So, what did you see your father do while growing up you were unhappy with and wanted to change in your own family.

@the bolded, don't be too sure of yourself. This kain matter na im Dem dey call 'who no go no go know'. So wait till you are there first. We tend to understand our fathers as we grow, especially when we start having our own children. More so, some of us later in our lives appreciate the iron hands of our parents. And again, in most case, mothers always come through for the children. I think that makes it balance. A child need a iron hands to raise him, a male child especially 'cause life isn't a piece of cake.

Almost same traits with my dad... The slight difference is that my dad does it himself at times... that man can sight a dirt as tiny as a grain of sugar... He literarily picks the whole place every 10 minutes, my mom got tired of him that she doesn't even bother whenever he's doing his thing...

But the truth is, it really helped in shaping us to be a better person in terms of cleanliness... I will emulate him but strike a balance between not making the kids scared of me and not over pampering them to become dirty kids...

He was nice.
Nice to a fault.
He wanted to uplift his extended family.
He invested too much on extended family.
Same extended family are now fighting his children.
My cousins have made some unsavory comments now that he's late.

NEVER AGAIN!!!

Wetin go be go be, I spent my whole life trying to be the exact opposite of my father because I felt he was too calm for my liking. The more I grew older I realized I turned out to be like him even without knowing. And honestly it’s a very peaceful life he is living and I realized it’s the best. Don’t try too hard to fight what you have no control over as long it doesn’t bring shame and disgrace to you as a man. An Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

My dad, God rest his soul had some traits I've resolved to try and stop. For one, he concerns himself with matters that doesn't really concern him. Someone is sick, my dad will step out to take that person for treatment. Na police case, he go chuk head. I didn't like that about him. Then his womanising. Chai! My papa nor dey smoke. He no dey drink. But you see woman, that is his forte. Well, despite his shortcomings, he was a good man and I can only pray God forgive him whatever transgression of his and grant him rest.

Rich but unable to spend

You have to write a project and defend what will be likely declined to convince him to release even 50k for a man worth 1+ billion naira in various accounts and properties scattered all over Naija

I will know how to test a blood with even 1million in this present time in naija

Things are not like those days he had the grace to acquire those wealth.

How many youths now if not celebrity or yahoo or few well doing ones at oil companies or business men doing well can build mansions in their villages or buy big houses in big cities?!

I will believe God made me rich to empower the family and people around me

Don't score yourself yet until you started having kids. That's when you ll know if you can keep your promise.

A boy once complained that he cannot be like his father that built bungalow in the village. Now, he's worked for over 10yrs, he still cannot afford a land
