TheGoodJoe:Sir, does 2 or 3 seasons ago qualify for modern Era? I am seeing one video of Salah on YouTube disgracing City defenders to score o. Any good one is Mitomo's goal a couple of weeks ago sir. Even our own Aribo scored a spectacular solo goal against Villarael albeit in a friendly . And sir, it has always been difficult to score such goals, such are never meant to be easy. 1 Like 1 Share |

TheGoodJoe:My brother!, Small small dey talk. Take "skipping past players" out of the equation, R9 was a highly talented player. Believe me if he's was playing in this era, he would destroy many top teams no matter the tactics used. Stop arguing this abeg! |

do4luv14:The thing shock me ooo, make I no lie. Tactics no go do everything for a team! If he or pep wan try am, make they come carry Gombe united play Real Madrid for UCL. Arguably, we have less talented defenders now compared to R9 era, it is just tactics that makes them stand out now. 2 Likes |

bossto: My problem is the term "destroy". You can say Ronaldo would be brilliant. He was quite tactical too. Brilliant with both feet, could drift to both wings. Crazy in dropping deep too. However, there is a misconception people have with players of the past being more talented than players today. I don't think that is the case. It is a case of players being more gifted today at defending. It is more organized, more calculated and precise. So it is difficult for players to excel with flair or "destroy" teams as we used to see in the past. So I have no doubt that Ronaldo would be brilliant, I am saying he would not be that dominating as he was in the past. 1 Like |

forgiveness: Because the modern game requires different attributes than flair with the ball. |

AndSunGorilla: Yes, we see Solo goals once in a while but it is far more difficult. Ronaldo did not have one or two brilliant Solo goals. He had it in loads. He could pull 3-4 mind blowing solo runs in a game. It was normal. Now it is not. |

Napoleon55: From my perspective, it started in Guardiola's Barcelona. So at that time, teams where still playing the old pattern. However, Guardiola's multiple success and teaching seminars took it global. Now many teams are well versed in it. So Prime Messi did not deal with prime modern game and even at the time Neymar was reaching his prime, teams were not well versed in it. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 3:18pm On Sep 20, 2023 |
Kog45: But not destroying teams the way Ronaldo did in the past. There is less single handed ability in offensive players winning games. |

TheGoodJoe:Then that's a poor example because all teams don't play like ATM It's even poorer because that assumes R9 didn't play ultra defensive teams. That badass played in Serie A fgs. |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 3:42pm On Sep 20, 2023 |
Odunayaw: I doubt you followed and watched Ronaldo more than me. Or have an idea how good he was compared to me. I am saying the modern game is a different ball game. It is a simple fact. Ronaldo would find it far more difficult now than then. |
