I doubt you followed and watched Ronaldo more than me. Or have an idea how good he was compared to me.

I am saying the modern game is a different ball game. It is a simple fact. Ronaldo would find it far more difficult now than then.
We've given you examples of players doing it coolly in this "modern game" you speak of.

Rather, "the modern game" is trying to even out the field with mechanical football. Dribbling is a work of flair. Flair is an instinct. It is not coached in.

The football world now has a dearth of players with flair. Nothing is "more difficult" now

Never scored a solo goal like he used to do for fun in the early Santos era at Barcelona.
You tell bold faced lies now and then so I'm not surprised.

I still remember his goal against Juventus easily

Go and watch these players you call "dearth of players with flair freestyle". They literally can pull off these skills with ease.

But tactical defending requires unison in approach in stopping players. Spending time on the ball is catastrophic to the game. It is not that players can't pull this tricks off but the way the game is played makes it difficult.

That is why I said the likes of Ronaldo will find it difficult now.

Heck even Heung Min-Son scores solo goals every season.

This overestimation of the bland mechanical football they call "modern game" has to stop.

1. No they cannot
2. Spending time on the ball without IDEA & INTENT is what is catastrophic
3. Again, players that can pull it off are a rarity now because they simply CANNOT

Catenaccio capital at the time. Serie A teams at the time were notorious for being hard to score against.

The only plausible argument one can put forward for today's era is that modern players are more athletic but I'm 100% sure if the likes of Pele, Maradona, R9 etc were exposed to today's training methods and coaches what Messi and CR7 are doing will be like child's play.

Odunayaw:
Then that's a poor example because all teams don't play like ATM

It's even poorer because that assumes R9 didn't play ultra defensive teams. That badass played in Serie A fgs.

Puskas 2020 winner for example

Don't feign laziness. It further crumbles your position.

Type any player you want on YouTube and add "solo goals" and come back

By the way, understand the point. Ronaldo made multiple brilliant Solo runs per game. Sometimes 4 or 5. Scored brilliant Solo goals easily. It is no more like that. You guys call it a dearth in talent but I am telling you guys that it is not dearth in talent but growth in tactical defending.

These days na overestimation go injure these people.

Athleticism can be coached into people. You see that flair? It's either you have it or not.

Now add athleticism, game interpretation to flair cheesy

Oga what is recorded on scoreboards? What is more proving of artistry? What is remembered most?

Solo runs only or solo runs that produce goals.

Pele, Maradona that they will man-mark pack four five players to stop them, many times it wouldn't work and the occasions it did they will just give an intelligent pass to a free teammate.

How will you 'tactically defend' against such outrageous skills in today's era?

Thank you. First of all, good goal. Things I would point out. It was a direct run and not mazy. But the frequency is the difference. In the past, Ikedia alone would pulls loads of unstoppable mazy runs per game.

And look, that direct run got goal of the year.

In the time for Ronaldo, it won't make it.

LOL. Please, defending is far more difficult now. Arguing against this is arguing against pure fact.

That was how Europe overestimated itself in Pele's time and their clubs were soundly defeated in his tour games.

Not all footballers are created equal

The fact is the calibre of the greats is missing in this generation.

Basically football has been dumbed down to accommodate the less gifted

They ought to divide up the broadcast rights.

Propel Sports actually bring an advantage in the long run; low cost of production of games.
The other two will do things the traditional way and that means realistically they would strain [logistically] if they are sole owner of the rights.

However Startimes and MultiChoice are entrenched here already. They wouldn't need to go out of their way to attract eyes.

Propel will need miracles to gain that acceptance in a short time.

So what to do? Divide up the rights.

But me no go hold my breath on anything sha. Na dem sabi

The reports have it that supersport aren't that keen on getting the TV rights... They're being careful so they don't run a loss like the last time they were televising the league.... I doubt they will want to divide the right with a competitor like startimes..

But why aren't our local stations bidding for it,? In fact why dont our local stations show much of live football anymore? Back then the likes of AIT, Galaxy TV and STV used to broadcast at least one PL and UCL games evrry week...today, na so so politics....
