Also, if they are moving to expensive cities like N.Y for instance...they would be paying more in housing and utilities...they can't even afford a mansion in those expensive cities.

My landlord confronts me and we got into an argument and we insulted each other, I know i was wrong but if I didn't spoil that pumping machine, the landlord wouldn't have called plumber to repair the issues I was having in my room, I even discovered that i wasn't the only one experiencing such thing, my neighbors too were also having that same issues.
According to my landlord, he said he's not the one collecting money from us, we paid money to agent and if we have any issues we should contact the agent, this particular agent is his elder brother but this my landlord is living in our compound with us, though he has numerous houses.
Now my landlord said he doesn't want to see me again in his compound and has threatened my mum with quit notice, he said it's either I leave the house or my family would leave , he instructed the gateman not to open gate for me again or else he'll sack him. My fellow nairalanders I really need your help, how will I go about this?

Some people actually think the rent notice is free, one case happened for my area, the landlord na weyrey, he continued with the court case to get the rent for that period even after he left, thinking the landlord no go sabi his new apartment. The part that always baffles me is for tenants to know the comfort they are having in an apartment yet they will do anyhow simply because they are paying rent that are even lesser than what better people that know the worth of the apartment, including peace of mind would pay.

nansng: You no try at all. Bury the thought that you will spend six months without pay for whatever reason, that’s not the position of the law. Now listen, go to the nearest police station, explain your predicament, let them see clearly that you are remorseful, tell them that all you want to do is to beg the landlord passionately. You tell the police that you just want them to invite him and not arrest him. When the landlord comes you should start prostrating to him from the gate of the police station. Every police stations has a section that deals with “mediation”, I believe they can help you out. But learn courtesy next time.

Where is your location? Just like Yoruba proverb which states that; “If they chase out of the house, they can’t chase out of this world”, once your rent is due, search for another house, this I told you was the beginning of my breakthrough and I thank God for leaving my previous landlord.

No one is entitled to 6 months quit notice after their rent expires, what you are entitled to is 6 months quit notice before the expiration of your rent, I don't know where some of you guys get this erroneous notion from, so your rent has expired and you want to live in someone's house for six months free..

You are wrong, what the law says is a tenant is entitled to be given a 6 months quit notice before rent is due, not after. What it means that a landlord that does not want you in his house anymore has to have given you the notice six months in advance, not that after your rent is expired, you will love in someone's house for six months without paying rent, it is a popular erroneous belief I have seen here on nairaland so often
