Blakjewelry: You are talking about 2 different things here; 1. Some people believe Jesus never existed. However, a huge part of history allude to the fact that Jesus existed. I think we both agree on this. 2. As for differentiating Jesus from the myth surrounding him, well it is not a myth if it is a spiritual fact. You don't have to accept this though and you are within your right not to. You are right in one thing; As christians, preaching about Jesus can get you arrested and/or killed in certain parts of the world (including some part of northern Nigeria). However, no Christian will kill you for insulting Jesus or preaching that Mohammed is greater than Jesus. Mention one time in Nigeria when christians went on rampage, killing people and burning houses and shops because someone insulted Jesus? Mention one instance. Can we say the same for islam? Northern Muslims have even killed people in Nigeria because of an eclipse. When another eclipse was to happen, the then Obasanjo govt had to sensitize the people through NTA majorly that it is a natural phenomenon. Imagine killing people and destroying properties because of an eclipse. Muslims in Nigeria have killed because of a cartoon of Mohammed drawn in far-away Denmark. We are not talking about Nigerians that have been killed because they were said to have blasphemed against Mohammed (the most recent being Deborah). Some of you don't know that the relative peace will enjoy in Nigeria is because of the non-violent nature of Christians. We don't believe in fighting for our God. This was what El-rufai said about Jesus some years back. Who was killed for this blasphemous comment? None! Can a Christian try this with Mohammed and violence not erupt in the north? In summary, if you or anyone else believe the stories about Jesus is a myth, it's your opinion and you are free to hold and share such opinion! 4 Likes 1 Share

dfrost: Here is the summary (and meaning) of Marc Anthony's dirge as obtainable from Wikipedia: Antony has been allowed by Brutus and the other conspirators to make a funeral oration for Caesar on condition that he will not blame them for Caesar's death; however, while Antony's speech outwardly begins by justifying the actions of Brutus and the assassins, Antony uses rhetoric and genuine reminders to ultimately portray Caesar in such a positive light that the crowd is enraged against the conspirators. Throughout his speech, Antony calls the conspirators "honourable men" – his implied sarcasm becoming increasingly obvious. He begins by carefully rebutting the notion that his friend, Caesar, deserved to die because he was ambitious, instead claiming that his actions were for the good of the Roman people, whom he cared for deeply ("When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept: / Ambition should be made of sterner stuff". He denies that Caesar wanted to make himself king, for there were many who witnessed the latter's denying the crown three times. As Antony reflects on Caesar's death and the injustice that nobody will be blamed for it, he becomes overwhelmed with emotion and deliberately pauses ("My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar, / And I must pause till it come back to me". As he does this, the crowd begins to turn against the conspirators. Antony then teases the crowd with Caesar's will, which they beg him to read, but he refuses. Antony tells the crowd to "have patience" and expresses his feeling that he will "wrong the honourable men / Whose daggers have stabb'd Caesar" if he is to read the will. The crowd, increasingly agitated, calls the conspirators "traitors" and demands that Antony read out the will. Instead of reading the will immediately, however, he focuses the crowd's attention on Caesar's body, pointing out his wounds and stressing the conspirators' betrayal of a man who trusted them, in particular the betrayal of Brutus ("Judge, O you gods, how dearly Caesar loved him!". In response to the passion of the crowd, Antony denies that he is trying to agitate them ("I come not, friends, to steal away your hearts", and he contrasts Brutus, "an orator", with himself, "a plain, blunt man", implying that Brutus has manipulated them through deceitful rhetoric. He claims that if he were as eloquent as Brutus, he could give a voice to each of Caesar's wounds ("... that should move / The stones of Rome to rise and mutiny". After that, Antony deals his final blow by revealing Caesar's will, in which "To every Roman citizen he gives, / To every several man, seventy-five drachmas" as well as land, to the crowd. He ends his speech with a dramatic flourish: "Here was a Caesar, when comes such another?", at which point the crowd begins to riot and search out the assassins with the intention of killing them. Antony then utters to himself: "Now let it work. Mischief, thou art afoot, / Take thou what course thou wilt!" I guess this would help to put Caesar in the right light by our Nairaland audience. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Ecosystem4u: Nah! The Egyptians or the Ethiopians didn’t get their civilization from no Europeans The first civilization in the Caucasus could be traced to Ancient Greece due to the wide knowledge of their philosophers and natural scientists a lot of the Roman advanced political system including ( natural science, astronomy, astrology, arts, archaeology , architecture e.t.c)was adopted and were largely influenced by the Greeks and the Ptolemy( Alexander the Great’s people)and it was because the Roman’s once conquered Greece. There’s a huge history between these two countries that’s why you can sometimes see things like “ Greco-Roman “ references in literatures or writings. The time the Egyptians were building the pyramids and the Sphinx they had no contact with no Europeans then. Also watched a docu sometime ago where it was stated that Sudan actually had pyramids before Egypt even tho that’s contentious it’s saying something, but it is really a factual statement . The Nubian, Sudanese Kush kingdom had Black Pharaohs and once conquered Egypt. They built more pyramids than Egypt too. Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia have rich histories too and their civilization can rival that of any advanced ancient civilizations and trust me black people were at the forefront of all this magic. Won’t dabble into the whole controversy of ancient Egyptians being Nubians or Arabs or berbers or Maghrebs or whatever lol. But even in modern times or post renaissance we had organized kingdoms/empires like the Oyo empire. Bronze Benin statues and Nok Arts dates back centuries are symbols of civilization too way before any contact with Europeans. Great stories accounts and accomplishments abound in other part of sub Saharan Africa too. Ultimately our ancestors weren’t losers or monumentally primitive people and African would have its prideful place wherever contributions to history and ancient civilizations and impacts are being discussed. 3 Likes |

Blakjewelry: How is it your business how Christianity is practiced here? How does it affect your existence? You did not talk about Islam and their violent ways, or traditionalists and their human sacrifice ways, only Christians the peaceful one among them why? Christians dont open threads to insult atheists anywhere on this forum not ever, but you people are always on every Christian threads with your idiotic comments dishing out insults for no reason, we don't even hate anyone or go about killing people because of different views, that is the MO of Islam, you idiots see Christians as docile and peaceful because we don't use violence to prove a point, that's why all of you try and constantly fail in your historical and archaeological bullshit to make Christianity a falsehood, get that into your foamy skull today that Christianity will continue to be the highest, the best religion in the world from now till infinity. 4 Likes |

Amayabor1:First off let me address you on the second part of the issue you raised. While this is not in defense of Islam, that what you think you are enjoying as a Christian were paid by the blood of others. If you are a student of history, you would have known that the entire Europe with millions killed because of religious view as at one time, or you for you forgot people were once crucified, impaled, behead or burned at the stake for heresy. You forgot millions of women were tortured and burned because they were accussed of been a witch, well all these are the dark days of Christianity as we know it, same thing Islam is going through. It took effort and sacrifices of Christian leaders to effect that change same is gradually taking place in Islam but you take note because history is written over a lengthy period for instance, you Islam has already split in two, one on the violent side, while the other on the passive side. Change take time. Now back to the issue of Jesus been a spiritual matter, every religious person should as matter of fact extremely respect the belief of any other person because if you believe the other person's believe system is fake, it automatically nullify your own beliefs. Take for instance, you won't hesitate to call ra, Zeus and Odin as fake or demon forgetting people worship them as you worship your own God for thousands of years and it feels real like it feels to you. Infact they call on them and they answer just like you believe today but according to you today, you had laugh at their foolish whereas you are in the same boat. Also Judaism from which Christianity and Islam stern from is nothing but a selected piece of a much larger ancient Jewish culture merge together to give you what you practice today, those who knows about those large piece of religious work don't take the Bible serious that is why you see even the modern Israelis focus more more than the archeological side though you cannot take way a people's way of life because it is passed down from generation. |

Fountainofyouth:You are one funny piece of work. Christians don't open thread on anti atheism, you most be very new to Nairaland, check the sections you will see hundreds if not thousands, even this particular discussion was brought by one of your fellow members raining insult on atheist because he believes Jesus existed during one of the ceasers so who started this, it you guys. Secondly you talked about Christianity been the most peaceful, it shame most of you don't read. Which religion was reigning supreme during the dark age of Europe. The atrocity committed in the name of Bible can never be beaten by any other religion, you forgot millions died as a result catholic and protestants or do you want to mention those crucified, impaled, fried or burned for heresy abi the millions of women burned after been accused of witchcraft. Or we should go to the war between Christian and the indigenous people of Europe. Dont come here acting like you know shit. Buddhism is one religion which is known to peaceful, the peace you enjoyed as Christians is the one paid in blood by those who dare to walk were uncommon men walk if not you would have been brain dead like your Islamic counterpart. |

Blakjewelry: Lol. It is Islam that do not have a dark past? You want to ignore the many jihad that was waged in the spread of Islam? Funny dude! You want me to lecture you on how islam conquered many present day northern states by jihad, even including some previously known Yoruba towns? That some christians killed in the past doesn't mean it is supported by the bible. They did this because of so many reasons, for example rivalry in the case of Catholic vs Protestant war in Ireland. Sometimes it was overzealousness of trying to protect the jewish tradition e.g apostle paul in the bible, before he was converted, supervised the killing of some christians. However, our holy book doesn't support any of these actions. However, the koran supports the killing of individuals who are jews or infidels. There are so many verses in the koran where muslims are commanded to wage war for allah, kill or enslave infidels and so on. Now you understand why islamic terrorism can't stop; because they have the backing of the koran. This was what Boko haram used as their backing when they started. You talking about islam need time to change is laughable. Which time? A religion that was started and spread by violence when Mohammed launched a jihad on Medina, present day saudi arabia? You believe a religion whose holy book supports violence will change? This is the 21st century dude. A religion that is over 1400 years old is what you believe will change? Lol. As for the second point you raised, you are actually assuming alot. If you like worship ologun, amadioha, ogun, that is your cup of tea. And yes, as a Christian, i look at people who worship these idols as people who need help from Jesus ( i do not see them as fools as you assumed). They may also see me as one who needs help from their god because i worship Jesus. That is fine. We can all disagree with who and the way we worship. But nobody should be killed because of these differences! 2 Likes |

To understand the motivation behind Caeser's coup and treason on Rome and why the conspirators had to put him down like a mad dog that he is, kindly search for a free digital copy of this book: A History of Central Banking and the Enslavement of Mankind’ by Stephen Mitford Goodson. It will explain in detail why Caeser attempted a coup on Rome, who financed the civil war after his death and how that clique of money changers and loan merchants have been a source of all the world's misery.

Amayabor1:You said the Bible doesn't preach war but you forgot the old testament which is the foundation on which Christianity is an offshoot same as Islam preaches violence against other religions, Islam is only following the tradition. And yes transition is taking place in Islam too that is why you have the sunni and Shia Muslims, also doctrine is not only or the major cause of their violent nature rather poverty and illiteracy that is why you will see less Americans European or even the rich Arabic countries engaged violent crimes compare poor countries. And yes you sees people who have other believes as needing help from Jesus, well I don't blame you, I have been there before so I know have it feels. Anyway I thought it was only a African thing until I read the book native son then I begin to understand the situation the black is in, a mental prison. |

Blakjewelry: Any thread you see about Christians is a counter thread that atheists first created against Christians and the ratio cannot be compared, there are thousands of threads against Christians just baselessly prove that God and Jesus doesn't exist, every argument you atheists use to validate yourselves and religion is always on Christians, you all cannot exist without using Christianity as your go to point, everyone knows that except you want to deceive yourselves. Secondly, The early crusade was done by Roman Catholic Church because they wanted to be the only Christians in existence, they killed protestants and other Christians who didn't follow their doctrine, they killed anyone that doesn't practice Catholism, in other words they were fighting for the dominance of their denomination not for christianity, of course you will ignorantly paint them as the ways of Christians to prove a baseless point of trying to paint Christianity as a violent religion, always going back to history as if it controls the world today, nowhere does Christians kill for their God in this century, instead we preach peace and love and pray for unbelievers that's all. Even Buddhism that you claim are peaceful are presently killing Muslims in India, enlighten yourselves on world news instead of displaying daftness here when you don't know shit. 5 Likes |

Fountainofyouth:Perhaps you should go back and make meaning of what you wrote up there, you rejected and make excuses for the past, you said history doesn't shape Christianity today but your very belief is based and shaped by that very past. Also what makes you think whenever an atheist open a thread about non existence of a god it refers to the deity you worship oh you think your deity owns the title God. You worship yaweh, jehovah and other title. You believe yours created the universe, there are hundreds if not thousands of God's who claim the title of the creator so do you jump on such thread? The answer is quite obvious you guys think you are suppior, but it's just in your head. I know you all lack deep love and try to get in the unseen same can't be said everybody. If one of your kind didn't mention atheist on this thread, we won't be having this conversation and yes one thing that is common with you lot is lacking something physically to try to get is spiritually. |

Mpanyi:It's not an issue of been picky, I was once a Christian too so I am speaking as one who has been in both world but unlike you I love history and try to piece things together. Picture this, you are a citizen of Egypt thousands of years ago, the only known supreme God is ra. You a believer of ra and remember Egypt was the biggest and mightiest empire, now you sees gods other tiny tribes either pagan, demons or useless then a tiny group of people one side start telling you God is fake that theirs is the one true God. You will definitely think they are mad. Same thing when ra was reigning supreme yaweh was a demi god, so I don't expect you to understand, I am only having this conversation because it's fun. |

Brutus was actually a hero who placed the common good above his friendship with a tyrant Julius Caesar. I still told someone last week that I'll act like Brutus anyday. Blakjewelry: Funny. But I understood you. However thank God some Egyptians believed. My people say if I see any tree bigger than me, I will worship it. That's for idolaters though. If a supposed foreign deity did some great things which Egyptian deity could not do, should that not be enough to make them (some of them at least) doubt their own deity and believe in the foreign deity? After all is about supernatural power that one believes in deity. So when one sees a more powerful one it will only be foolishness or just ego for him not to believe in the more powerful one. That will be just politics or nationalism. Religion is not about believing for the sake of believing. |
