You can use a GCkey account to apply.
The correct form is IMM5710. In the form, select ‘Co-op work permit under ‘What type of permit are you applying for?’
The processing time is 5 months. Alternatively, you can get it the same day if you go to the border with the following: Letter of Acceptance, Coop Letter, tuition fee receipt.

Thank you.

Hi, you can apply via your GCKey Portal. The application is usually free. I could take 1 month or more.

Thanks.

if you are coming to thunder bay from Nigeria be aware. those stories of 'plenty jobs for international students' are lies.
you will spend a minimum of $800 - $1000 a month on a room (just a room). your tuition is minimum of $8600 per semester & for Masters students you pay every semester, there are no breaks in the year. this applies to most universities in Canada. also there are barely part time jobs for students, be ready to get money from back home every month. your sim card bill is min $50 per month (lowest offer so far). you will be bombarded with excess school work, thus be aware.
buy your winter jackets & boots before you arrive, its less expensive back home.
Nigerian students don't forget to buy international travel adaptor in Nigeria. over here its $35, in Nigeria you can get it for $5. certain android phones don't work with their sim cards over here. as i remember more tips i will post.

This is your personal experience. I am currently schooling in Canada. I don’t have this ur experience. I don’t ask money monthly for home. I comfortably pay my bills, rent, feeding and other bills. I repeat this is your personal experience. Network and reach out to people.

Hello, please do you know the cheapest flight from Abuja or Lagos to Alberta, Canada? Also do you know how I can pay for accommodation in Alberta from Nigeria?
you can use google for the first question or try wakanow.com/skyscanner. For accommodation get a domiciliary account and pay for airbnb. After landing you sort your accommodation.

I really dislike it when people come on here and discourage others, because it’s not working for you doesn’t mean it won’t work for other. Let’s stop trying to make others think and be depressed thinking it will be the same for them when they come.

Ofcourse you can work..if you have work permit issued!
It is not listed on conditions attached to the work permit..as per, spouse must start classes before you can work with open work permit!
But they can't issue work permit without spouse @ POE

So what are the good things about the place, it will be nice to also share the positives as well, It can't be so bad cos despite all the negatives no student is coming back to Nigeria, or are you planning to come back?

Hello guys, please I need your help oooo. I haven't been able to sleep well. I applied to CNA and Sheridan since June but didn't get admission. I was asked to submit some documents and after that didn't hear anything from them.

I also applied to Conestoga on August 24th but after asked to resubmit some documents, I was on the wait list.

Since January is no longer feasible, please can you guys help out and let me know which schools give admission fast. I don't know if it's my study gap of 8 years that's affecting me though. Please if you also know of any school giving admission for Januray intake please let me know.

Also note that I got admission into a non-DLI school (Oulton College), but I'm not sure if it'll be easy to switch to another school when I get to Canada or get the refund of the $3000 deposit. Please help out with any information you can give out about any of the above. Thank you.

Reach out to those schools via email and inquire about your application, you'll be sure to get a response.

I wouldn't advise anyone to go to a non DLI institution. All way no be way o

Thank you for the response. I have been reaching out every week. They reply sometimes and the usual response is that there's no specific timeline for them to admit students. So, I just have to wait but the wait is tiring. Please if you know any school that give admission quickly, kindly let me know.

didn't say its bad, its good. great decision, just trying to inform people of what to expect. no expectations, no disappointments. the boy saying he is working & paying for all his school mates, i laugh.
there are jobs, but competition is steep, especially due to the population of other internationals like indians. tell people the reality of what's happening in Canada. so they prepare adequately. As a student it's almost impossible to land & get student jobs immediately.

Thanks so much, would I go with raw dollar cash or I can have it in my dollar card?

Go with raw dollars, deposit it into your Canadian account when you open one. Don’t exceed $10K. If not you declare it. If you put in dollar card the limit will hinder your usage.

If I may ask, what reasons were on the GCMS note about it being a Microfinance Bank. I know someone who used a microfinance bank and left a couple of weeks back for the September entry.

It was categorically stated on the GCMS note that according to the laws of the CBN Act, Microfinance banks are financial institutions catering to the financial needs of the low income group and are not empowered for large scale commercial transactions, etc. That was the sole basis of denial and only reason given. So, better safe than sorry. Avoid MFBs

This is really a public forum. I really don’t want to dwell more on this topic. Obviously you avoided quoting me. I am not a boy. I am a father of 2 children. If you really need a job get a certification. I will stop here.

Please and Please dont let us discourage anyone on this platform that wants to have a change of environment and pursue a better life. Life isn't easy anywhere .. we all have to start from somewhere .. Also the fact that things aren't working for you as you expected doesn't mean it wont work for another person. Also the fact that things are not working for you now doesn't mean its not gonna work for you in the long run. Also , you that you are coming abroad , dont come with the intention of picking money on the street .. YOU WILL HAVE TO WORK !!!... The first major thing you will enjoy is the basic amenities which is lacking from where you are coming from ...But at the end of the day , things will surely work out with work and prayer!!

Ah!!!
You added prayer at the end of your comment? 😂😂😂
I thought when i get to Canada my prayer point will be next to nothing (that is if i have 20 prayer points while I'm in Nigeria, it’s becomes 1 to nothing). 😂 😂😂😂

Anyway, your statement is very much encouraging and appreciated.
As for me, what I get from all this negativity comments is to make sure I’m fully prepared for the worst, but still it can never be as bad as Nigeria.

God will continue to help us all

Yes the money was in my account.
I didn't remember to mention
She is doing her second Masters here in Canada.
Same masters course she did in Nigeria.
She explained that when she went through the courses in Canada and compared to Nigeria, the gap was too much and that our sylabus here is obsolete and our lecturers keep repeating the obsolete sylabus that she want to change that system on coming back.

Greetings Chief,

Pls, can you help to highlight what the content will look like for Letter of Sponsorship between SPOUSE i.e. husband with the money but will be going with the WIFE and their child.

I don't think that message was to discourage people that plan to come to Canada. It is meant to be heads-up and nothing wrong in giving it to guide others that are on the way. There is always something to take away from people's experience sharing.
