you can use connects to apply to jobs, boost your proposal to the top of the list etc. if you're not looking for freelancing gigs, then you can just ignore them.

What's going with Upwork? I hardly get invites these days. All through last month only once, this month is almost over and nothing. I used to get multiple per week, my JSS is still 100% top rated plus is still there

I got my upwork account registered to Canada but I recently got a contract offer and it is mandated that I verify. My question is, is it advisable to change the location to Nigeria before doing my verification or I should just verify and hope they dont query the location on my profile

How could Upwork verify your account without verifying that you actually live in the location stated on your profile? It is advisable not to falsify your location or buy pre-registered accounts. Be prepared for a permanent ban if you try to accept that contract or any other contracts.

Upwork will certainly be verifying your location.

You may have been fortunate to slip through the cracks until now, but even without the mandatory verification you now face, all it could take for a permanent ban is for a suspicious client or freelancer to report your Upwork account.

Upwork could also randomly request ID & video verification from you if any of their clandestine programs flag your account. It's bound to come sooner or later, so faking your location isn't worth it.

If you're not in Canada and don't own a Canadian ID, it's best to switch back to your real location and hope for the best.

Even someone who simply wants to give you free money will be discouraged by this profile.

No portfolio, a poor profile picture, and a lackluster overview with no information about your background, tools of the trade, stacks, etc. Yet, you want to get paid $50 an hour?

- Your face should be visible in your profile picture; opt for a clearer photo without a white background.

- Ensure your profile is 100% complete. It's not necessary but will be super helpful.

I accepted a fraudulent client, and stupidly refunded him, when the bonus couldn't be reversed. I thought I was being nice, but it backfired.

Test a payment gateway with $50 however they were going to pay me $200 upfront. Didn’t smell right.

This is another key issue when dealing with clients. Some are just out to scam freelancers.

I feel Upwork has a major role to play here. On fiverr, once the client sends a suspicious message to a freelancer, they instantly block the account of the client most times. Meaning the client can't message anyone on the forum.

The secret to getting client views remains the same IMO: write good proposals (& submit them early) and work on your profile regularly.

The silver lining in this connect madness is that some clients know they will get many trashy or AI-generated proposals. So, they'll sift through the noise for the standouts.

Don't be discouraged.
