* This movie is one of DC's attempt to copy Marvel's formula of comedy, action and sprinkled with a little bit of melancholy.
Even though this formula no longer works for Marvel, Blue Beetle's attempt was even worse; The action was okay, but the humour was bland.
* The story was inconsistent, for example, while trying to pass a "no killing message" for the main character, they made it look cool with his family (granny being the obvious culprit). How the hell did his family even learn how to use the Kord techs so quickly?
* What I look for mostly in a movie is a good story, every other thing is an added bonus. Blue Beetle's story is just too generic.
I honestly wanted to enjoy this movie. I downloaded the 1080p video to make sure I didn't miss anything but in the end I was disappointed.
The Granny obviously had a shade past, and they mentioned that. The only error I would say is the guy's sister easily mastering the tech.
imo I don't think that's enough to call it terrible sha.
Me I enjoyed it sha unlike Flash, Shazam and Black Adam

What are they narrating for almost 4 hours, bikonu??

That's Martin Scorsese. That man is obsessed with narrative and showing. The Irishman comes to mind.

I do joke that if he was the one that directed The Godfather trilogy, he would have crammed everything into one movie ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Blue Beetle.......7.5/10

A truly enjoyable flick all through. Wild ride from start to finish. It had heart, hilarious and entertaining.

The action scenes were premium. Great score, nice visuals and CGI. Peak suit. The director truly understood what it was to be Blue Beetle and got the character well. Nice touch with the family vibe to it. Added some sort of authenticity to it with the Latino socio-cultural makeup. Xolo Mariduena truly understood the assignment portraying a live action Blue Beetle. The dialogue between Jaime Reyes and Khaji-Da was peak!!
Generic it might be at times, but it's definitely a nice family movie.
The film is clearly made for fans.

Anyone saying this movie is bad is just clowning. If it was released during 2014 - 2019, it would have smashed the box office and people will be singing Kumbaya. But since it's DC its way easier to hate and get away with it these days. If it was a success at the BO many won't have the balls bashing it as they did cos the reasons are watery at best.

Anyone who knows Blue Beetle won't say it's DC trying to be MCU with jokes. Tell me you don't know shit about the character without telling me so in plain terms.

People on Nairaland trying to be punk and macho claiming to love dark movies all of a sudden after sucking MCU's diยขk for years. It always annoys me when people have this built set of perception that DC is all about "dark" characters when half the stories isn't. JSYK, DC has tons of light hearted characters and stories and its pretentious or plain ignorance to assume it isn't.
Read a fvvking comic book.
honestly the movie was very good to me. I keep wondering why it was a box office bomb. I kind of feel sorry for DC

It is the archy type oscar bait maaan. I am hearing Lily Gladstone is believing her own hype on her performance in it, that she's bypassing the studio stance on submitting for best supporting actress, and going for the high ceiling and submitting herself for best actress.

Yeah, for weeks I've been hearing her hyped up for Best Supporting but all of a sudden last week I'm seeing a push for Best Actress.

Cos ain't gonna lie bro, this year's Best Supporting competition looks tougher as hell than even Best Actress cos almost everyone seems avoiding the top prize cos they afraid of losing out.

The only clear lead so far has been Emma Stone for POOR THINGS. And I smell Carey Mulligan having strong word for Best Actress. That Greta Lee that people have been hyping up for some time now sef might be pushed out cos this fall movies and stars have been edging her out.

Best Supporting is the toughest competition to me this year judging by what I've been hearing. There's still a Rosamund Pike from "Saltburn" to contend with and prolly an Emily Blunt or Florence Pugh in "Oppenheimer".

Me ehn, body dey itch me cos I haven't seen any of these films yet and some peeps have already catch them on film festivals or advanced screenings and already seeing the competition play out. All I know is, the competition for 2024 Oscars major awards will be mad and the most competitive we've seen in years. Might even be very controversial sef cos there are some categories like Best Supporting & Best Actress that there are no clear winners and harder to judge or have a consensus.

This season will be fvvking interesting, that's all I know. And the competition might surpass what we've known these past few years.

Well DC is in a rough patch presently, so it's expected. Especially since Blue Beetle is a little less known character. Blue Beetle isn't even B-list character.

I'm glad the film did enough for Blue Beetle to be included in the upcoming DCU plans.

You got to give it to Nollywood and Netflix on this.

They/We are getting there.

Nice story line, near top notch acting.
