Everyone should be guarded, vigilant and observant, whether you are surrounded by bush or not please be vigilant. These snakes are so creepy

By the God Grace i own my house, it’s a 2 apartment bungalow with a 3 bedroom flat each. I occupy the front flat while my tenant occupy the back flat. Everywhere in my house is neat and tiled including my compound, I’m not surrounded by bush, I even stay in an Estate but it’s still a mystery how this snake get into my house.

On my way back from work, I stopped by to pick my wife from her shop, as at 7:30 when we got home, I walked towards the small fridge in our dining room to grab some chilled beer, I noticed something fell from the cotton pole, the moment I shined the torch light, it was a black snake then it ran behind the fridge. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I shouted Jesus see snake. My wife carried my daughter and ran outside to the main gate. I could even hear her voice shouting “babe you must kill that snake, I’m not sleeping in that house if you don’t kill that snake”

Well, My tenant came to assist me and we finally killed the snake with sticks and stones. I’m a brave man grin

I’m so curious right now because you can’t see a cockroach or rat in my house not to talk of snake. How that snake got into my house is a mystery. My baby is almost one year and she crawls around.

Who else has experience this before? And what kind of snake is that? Is it venomous?

Call snake doctor, to check if another one is in the house. Because snake usually move in two male and female. Let the snake doctor call out any other one in the house. Then if non is still in the house. He can then sprinkle some powder that can stop them from coming around.

Not all men. Most men are more afraid than women. Some will even run away, leaving the woman to kill the snake. Or they'll get another man who is not afraid to kill the snake. Like you now, if you're to see a snake on the way to your house, I know you'll likely pee on yourself in less than ten seconds.

Well done brother for that bravery act.

I will advise you get enough garlic, pill then all and spread it around your premise.

Also, you can get dried bones and burn it on fire it will cast away snakes.

Also, make sure you flush your toilets with enough salts monthly basis.

it baffles me. There’s no space in my doors. I have two entrances to enter my house, either from the kitchen entrance or the main entrance and both entrance has door net. I fixed door net to prevent mosquitoes because of my baby.

You can’t even see mosquitoes, cockroach or rat in my house.

I will have to fumigate my house. I’m so shocked right now.
Check around window edges. Some mosquito nets may have small allowances at the edges

A snake will not say oh because this estate is clean, i will not creep into it, or this estate is bushy, i will enter. It creeps where it wants to creep into, bushy or not.

Unecessary comment. 🙄

Didn't you read where he said he has an almost one-year old who crawls around? So the wife should've left the one-year old outside or in another room alone just to kill the snake with the OP? Or all three of them should've killed it together? Besides, he called his tenant to assist in killing it, meaning he was not by himself.

She should have stayed and kill the snake while the husband go for the baby.
Re: Look At The Snake I Killed In My Living Room Just Now by Fab21: 3:40pm On Sep 27, 2023
@OP, Thank God for safety.

The funniest line was your wife shouting that you must kill that snake whereas, it's their first mother that's discussing with the snake back then and having a chit-chat with that crawling creature.

It's not easy to be a man ooo grin
Imaging your wife insisting you must kill the snake but fled with the kid.

Let me share my experience with a snake.

2 yrs ago, I came to visit a relative.
The environment was a little bit bushy, though. One fateful afternoon, I was outside receiving a call and suddenly, I saw that crawling creature; it's very big and thick. The snake was about to enter the house through the kitchen door but thank God it's locked at the moment. I was shouting from outside that non of them(the kids, wife and the husband) should come out.

I dropped my phone looking for a Stone.
Immediately the snake was trying to move and find its way to the bush, but by then , I'd gotten a stone.

I hit it with that big stone in its back. While I was doing that, a neighbour joined me used cutlass on it and eventually I find another stone and hit it again on its back before finally cutting off its head...

Another Experience was during my NYSC prog.
I was walking through the corper's Lodge that night when I saw that snake at the entrance of one of the rooms In the compound.

I beckoned my male colleagues shouting snake! Snake!
The funniest thing was that there's no tool to use to kill the snake. One of us quickly went inside and took his jungle boot and hit it with it.

I eventually found a little stone and swing stool that the kids do play with.
I hit it with it and it died.

The funniest part of it was that, none of the female corp members move closer to us. They're just screaming. There was a guy that's too scared and he's just staring at us. grin

Snakes are very cunny and sometimes when they're inside a house you won't even know for some months.

@Op, create a time and clean the house.
Atleast to clear all doubts.

Though not all snakes are venomous...

The most scary part of it is snake coming in through the Water Closet Pipe. If it's true, I don't want to experience that.

Check your septic tank, and soakaway regions if there are no holes. Also check for leakages in pipes. These routes have been the access areas into most homes that they are unaware of.

What are the first aids for snake bite?
Eldybest:

Well, it's difficult to accurately point out how the snake got into your house, but that snake must have been living with you for quite some time without you knowing it. But because, fortunately, snakes by nature do their best (and even go to lengths) to avoid humans and won't normally go out to deliberately harm humans, you did not notice its presence in your house until that day.
There are also many other people with snakes in their houses without them knowing it. Lol it would have been an entirely different scenario if snakes deliberately seek out humans. But they still remain mostly dangerous anyway. Not something to cohabit with for any reason.
Bro, please ensure that you have anti venom or you know a nearby medical facility that has antivenom, just in case. This can make a difference between life and death.
Most people who died from snake bites died due to not having timely access to anti-venom treatment. Many medical facilities don't have anti-venom. Please locate one which has. Or you learn first aid treatment for snake bite.
I was bitten by a venomous snake right inside my house, in June. My own house is near to some bushes and grasslands. What saved me was the first aid treatment I applied which helped me to buy time before I later got additional treatment.
So, bro, please make contingency plans just in case.
Also, bro, fumigate, and fumigate, and fumigate. And keep away rats from your house.
Bro I thank God for your life.

What are the first aids for snake bite?

Note: I learnt this from a local farmer sometime around 1990/91. So it is not a western medical first aid. While the farmer taught me as if it is a complete treatment, I personally classify it as a kind of 'first aid' because I believe that ideally, one should still seek medical treatment even after one had gotten better.

Now, here it is:

1. Within the first few seconds of the snake bite, firmly tighten a rope or wire or twig or anything strong, at the back of that bite, to prevent the venom from circulating further.

2. Immediately (or at the same time), start chewing bitter kolanut. As you are chewing it very well, squeeze out and keep swallowing the bitter liquid coming from it. Swallow everything. In my own case, three kolanuts worked for me. The farmer told me that if some venom had escaped further into the blood by the time, there is a way the kolanut would act against it from inside.

3. Begin to press the areas around the bite to drain out the blood around the bite. This action, in practical sense, is very bloody and messy. But when a saw that my life was at stake, I did it. The farmer said I can also suck out that blood in that area and spit it off. This, I also did, when I saw that I must save my life.
During all this, try and avoid making serious bodily movements that can make your heart pump faster or harder, so that the venom will not circulate fast.

Just as I said, a local farmer taught me this way back sometime in 1990/1991.

But the first time I practised it was on December 20, 1995 when I was bitten on my wrist by a snake. On this occasion, I put this into practise and it worked for me, even without any treatment afterwards.

Then, the latest time I practised it was sometime in June this year when I had another bite at around 2am or so. I applied the same method and my body calmed down and I became normal again.

Someone later told me that I've developed some bodily resistance to snake bites (I don't know anything about this, as I am not a science person).

But the mark of the first snake bite is still on my right wrist till today.
But as a rule, I always ensure that I have kolanuts wherever I go.

I have only talked about what worked for me as taught to me by a local farmer. Not to be taken as a 'prescription' or recommendation. I used the method because the incident happened at locations far away from medical outpost.
There will definitely be other first aid treatments for snake bites, especially from the medical people.
Ideally, please ensure you know a clinic around which has antivenom treatments.

I understood all u said. Tanks.
But u dont think the method will work for someone else? Just asking.
