Nigerian minister poisoned in Abuja, fights for life in hospital
Lola Ade-John, 60, was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, shortly after she started manifesting symptoms of her poisoning, family sources told The Gazette.



Nigeria tourism minister has been hospitalised in Abuja after suffering acute poisoning from unknown origins, Peoples Gazette was told, as her family members fear time was running against their efforts to save her life.
Lola Ade-John, 60, was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, shortly after she started manifesting symptoms of her poisoning, according to family sources familiar with her ordeal. She has spent four days at the facility as of Friday morning, The Gazette heard.
Ms Ade-John, a career banker and tech investor, has been on a machine to aid her breathing, our sources said. The specifics as to what substance she ingested and how could not be immediately established by The Gazette. The police and the State Security Service did not immediately return a request on whether or not any investigations had been opened into the matter.
Her worsening situation has further set the family against the government, with the permanent secretary of her ministry said to be in disagreement as to whether she should continue receiving treatment at a public hospital or be moved to a better-equipped private facility downtown.
The permanent secretary, Ngozi Onwudike, was said to have insisted that the minister should not be transferred because the FMC is a public hospital and its services wouldn’t attract substantial charges to the government, a position her family rebuffed. But they remained with her as they could not raise funds to move her to a private hospital, our sources said. A phone number for the permanent secretary did not connect on Friday morning.
A spokesperson for the FMC did not immediately return a request seeking comments from The Gazette about Ms Ade-John’s condition.
Ms Ade-John was appointed as a minister by President Bola Tinubu in August. She was immediately touted as one of the few cabinet members appointed from outside the political beltway. She was based in London for years before she was asked to return to the country to serve by the president.

Before 1st now, I don finish my salary based on say e de come ending of the month. 😂


This is the first time e de be like e de enter new month.

Even on 30th n 31st wey sometimes na sat n Sunday, I de receive salary. I remembered I don receive once on a Sunday wey be 31st. The rest na Saturdays wey be last sat of the month

ABU decries academic staff shortage, urges govt to lift employment embargo


Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria has decried the shortage of academic staff in some of the institution’s faculties, attributing it to thee deployment of Integrated Payroll and Personal Information System (IPPIS).


Prof. Kabiru Bala, the Vice-chancellor of the university, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on the sidelines of the 2023 induction ceremony for 67 inducted doctors from the institution

Bala, represented by Prof. Danladi Ameh, ther Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), said the university was in need of more academic staff, not only in the College of Medical Sciences but in other faculties, such as the Faculty of Arts.

“Specifically, in the Department of Philosophy, they need more academic staff, as the department has been managing with sabbatical and contract staff.

“Since the deployment of IPPIS, we have not been able to pay for them and they subsequently disengaged, hence the imperative of lifting the ban on employment for the university.

FG, States, LGs Received N1.1tn As August Revenue – FAAC

The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has shared a total of N1.1 trillion in August 2023 Federation Account Revenue to the Federal Government, States and Local Government Councils.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa on Friday.

According to the statement, the FAAC issued a communique at its September 2023 meeting, indicating the “N1100.101 billion total distributable revenue.”

According to the communique, total revenue of N1483.902 billion was available in the month of August 2023. Total deductions for cost of collection was N58.755 billion, total transfers and refunds was N254.046 billion and savings was N71.000 billion.

Gross statutory revenue of N 891.934 billion was received for the month of August 2023. This was lower than the N1150.424 billion received in the month of July 2023 by N258.490 billion.

The gross revenue available from the Value Added Tax (VAT) was N345.727 billion. This was higher than the N298.789 billion available in the month of July 2023 by N46.938 billion.

The communique stated that from the N1100.101 billion total distributable revenue, the Federal Government received a total of N431.245 billion, the State Governments received N361.188 billion and the Local Government Councils received N266.538 billion.

A total sum of N26.473 billion (13% of mineral revenue) and N14.657 billion (13% of savings from NNPCL), were shared to the relevant States as derivation revenue.


From the N357.398 billion distributable statutory revenue, the Federal Government received N173.102 billion, the State Governments received N87.800 billion and the Local Government Councils received N67.690 billion. The sum of N14.446 billion (13% of mineral revenue) and N14.361billion (13 % of savings from NNPCL) were shared to the relevant States as derivation revenue.

The statement further noted that “the Federal Government received N48.291 billion, the State Governments received N160.971 billion and the Local Government Councils received N112.679 billion from the N321.941 billion distributable Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue.

“The N14.102 billion Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL) was shared as follows: the Federal Government received N2.115 billion, the State Governments received N7.051 billion and the Local Government Councils received N4.936 billion.

“The Federal Government received N114.445 billion from the N229.568 billion Exchange Difference revenue. The State Governments received N58.048 billion, and the Local Government Councils received N44.752 billion. The sum of N12.027 billion (13% of mineral revenue) and N0.296 billion (13 % of savings from NNPCL) went to the relevant States as derivation revenue.

“From the N177.092 billion Augmentation, the Federal Government received N93.292 billion, the State Governments received N47.319 billion and the Local Government Councils received N36.481 billion.

“In the month of August 2023, Value Added Tax (VAT), Import and Excise Duties and Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL) increased considerably while Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT), Companies Income Tax (CIT), Oil and Gas Royalties recorded significant decreases.

“The balance in the Excess Crude Account (ECA) was $473,754.57.”
