Now watch how civil servants get sacked by Umahi. An experienced politician always lives to fight another day. He will stylishly remove the ones who opposed him.

I don’t believe a disciplined man like Umahi will stoop low to apologize for taking the right step.

I’ll be iron-handed if I were to head any government agency because most civil servants lack discipline. They believe their union to protest and protect them.

Was shocked to see Dave Umahi display typical abakaliki man timidity. The workers union leader who spoke practically insulted and dressed him down right there in his face and all the minister could do was to apologize for scolding the latecomers!

Let's just hope that he fixes the deplorable federal roads across the nation and his insistence on concrete technology doesn't push the price of cement through the roofs.

Shut up

Their is nothing like typical abakaliki man timidity,Dave is not even form abakaliki he is from ohaozara.

The joke is actually on the workers. By the time Umahi is done dealing with them, especially that guy running his mouth that Abuja is not Ebonyi; they will know the difference between khaki and leather.

Politicians don't forgive, let alone forget. The only way they can escape been sacked is by becoming disciplined and doing their work diligently and cautiously because a lot of traps will be set for them. Whichever way the pendulum swings, there must surely be some scapegoats.

Umahi himself thought that he was still a governor. That man would not have opposed him openly in that manner, if he was a governor. First he would be detained and sacked, while in detention.

The present tempo in the country requires plenty of care by the leaders. I mentioned it earlier that with the situation of things and the looming strike, Umahi risked aggravating the matter. Certainly a few calls to fellow ministers and other government functionaries got him to apologize.

In all, our Federal civil service is highly irresponsible and needs tough measures to get the workers to buckle up. Workers do not care about rules.

Umahi certainly will have the last laugh, as the power to hire and fire is with him. I think that with a little more time, he will get his pound of flesh on those who opposed him. In doing that he will make sure they do not get any benefit whatsoever.

Poorly handled by the minister. No need of having this meeting or addressing the staff.

Open the gate and let them come in, no need for this address, when they are back on October 2nd, a biometric access control system will be in place.

Screen and register staff, from that day onward, they have to clock in and clock out everyday. After six months there will be enough data to identify ghost and truant workers. You then implement appropriate consequence management.

There are readily available technology to manage the problem.

You want Nigeria to progress without overhauling the corrupt civil service and its mob called Labour Unions?

You must be a joker.

I stand with Dave Umahi over those whose best actions can never make Nigeria great.

Every public institution need a forceful reorientation of its labour force, but I wouldn't waste that time if I can as well sack them all and rehire.

The public service need to make firing as easy as it is in the private sector.

Does Umahi himself come early every day?

Does he line up at Kubwa express to fight for kabukabu to come to work?

Does he have to trek to the express now that his buddy Wine has crushed the motorbikes?

People coming from Kubwa, Lugbe, Zuba, Madalla and co in this fuel hike times, paying through their noses to come to work, and the man dey lock gate?

If na before, no wahala.

Let him lock the gate again and see.

Dave Umahi is Igbo.

The person addressing the crowd and the Minister is speaking with a Yoruba intonation.

The person from the crowd who retorted "teach him very well" spoke with Igbo intonation.

My drift is that the civil service is nationally useless, and would frustrate anyone who comes in as a reformer.

I am certain that they are also already planning how to limit the "excesses" of the Interior Minister who wants government agencies to be efficient and eliminate corruption.

This is part of the reason Wike fired all the heads of agencies in the FCT so he can rejig them with those who can help him deliver on his agenda.

With the current Civil Service, this country will never move forward, rather it will keep moving backwards.
Don't let me insult you. Is wike not corrupt? Only a fool thinks he is doing anything in the interest of Nigeria. He only wants ppl he can control so please shut up.

If I am one of the erring staff, I'll be very careful going forward. When someone in the position of Umahi reacts the way he did, be watchful of his next move...Those workers should brace themselves, he will likely hit them hard for such insubordination...

Not everyone attacks like Wike...

It is a carrot and stick approach, there is going to be a reprisal. You can imagine their effrontery, telling Minister he was just going all about doing things and didn't carried them along so that they can use the old approach, I'm a tax payer and these ones are spending my money and going to work 12noon to 3pm while i work 8am to 6pm standing throughout. I keep saying it that the problem of this country is just a little of the government but largely of the populace. So other appointees who cannot control them will join them, move money and move on.

Nigerians has to be fair to Nigeria by doing the right thing.

Coming to work late is bad. Locking the gate is even worse.

There are laid down principles like queries and salary deduction.

The ministry is not his personal factory
