I'm really starting to dislike this Benue State governor. All he has been doing since he resumed that office is blaming everyone for everything and hardly taking responsibility as a leader.

I don't want to believe he's going to be another mistake that Benue people are going to rue and regret.

Church Building Committee with welders they call Engineer. No practicing Engineer or registered engineer. Most Churches do this.

You know as e dey be. There is one they are building in my area now. The church building committee is headed by an agric engineering lecturer. His assistant is a civil engineering graduate that contracted his own house to another engineer. Other members of the church building committee includes the reverend in charge and the rich men in the church

More efforts are now in place to win souls and do heaven business and not church business.
Among the sheeps, there must be wolves. So with time, all those unnecessary building of church buildings will reduce and it ll be building people alone cos people are the real church.
So don't give room for real anti-Christs to rub their dirty mouth here. Among them are atheists, senseless muslims and people who are ungrateful that Christianity exist.
If dem born you that's reading this among them well, quote me without sense!
I ll describe why your mom forgot who really born you!

How can he take responsibility for this please? Just kindly adumbrate with a few words?

I like your choice of words. Haven't remembered that "adumbrate" verb in a while..😊.

Given the circumstances, someone or persons are supposed to go to jail for negligence and abdication of responsibilities.

Who gave the building permit that authorised the erection of a storey building on a swampy plot?

Who in the department of urban planning is responsible for overseeing compliance to qualitative delivery as regards building constructions?

If the owner or the building contractor(s) failed to comply to requisite standards while building, why did the government workers in the town planning and urban development agency fail to do same?

These are questions that should have been answered before anybody went ahead to apportion blames in front of microphones. The man tends to have an inclination towards the thrill of the momentary media buzz.

so you want him to take responsibility over a poorly built building? Was he the one that built the church? Was he the one that approved the building? Do you even know the meaning of responsibility? Some people are so daf/+ in thinking and reasoning, no wonder the country is so backward

You started well, but ended badly.

He didn't build the church.
Question: Who's the contractor that did?

He didn't approve the building permit.
Question: Who's the government representative who did?

Do I even know the meaning of responsibility?
Yes I do. And Alia should have first found out whose responsibility it was to ascertain structural quality of buildings within his government circles before rushing to buck-pass to Dunamis Church.

If he had been retrospect enough to think through these things, he wouldn't have gone to the media to pander to sentiments. Governance should always be characterised by a sense of duty and never pander to emotions.

So government is supposed to start vising every building project to know the standard of material used in every building in the state?

Isn't that the responsibility of the owner of the project and project manager?

Government is supposed to punish anyone that cut corners and put people's lives at risk. Which the governor has rightly done.
Now the question is, how is he going to punish dunamis church and it's engineers that out people's lives at risk by using substandard products should be the question.

I guess u don't know that before such structures are built the pay fees to the govt and for such big structures it is a fundamental part of the ministry of works, Urban and regional plannings area to monitor and ensure that thee building follows the right standards....this is not only with respect to them but all over the country so how come everytime something like this happens the first is to begin to hunt the builders when it is obvious the got approval from the govt, the problem is everything is rotten, from our institutions to the people gosh

It is that same negligence I'm trying to hammer on, which he should have investigated before the media noise.

Except it is a misleading headline, I'll fault the Governor.

The Church can do anything and be anywhere. The government, which Reverend Father Governor Alia heads, should take responsibility for allowing a substandard building be erected.

Engineers know that there is a benchmark for construction materials everywhere. This benchmark is maintained by institutions of government. The reason why the society works in the developed world is because the government is up and doing.

The Governor should ask questions from the supervising ministries of works, lands, urban development and housing that allowed a substandard structure to be developed, not the church.

You should blame your system that failed to prevent the mishap before blaming the bereaved church for their presumed unavailability to "receive your Excellency" when you possibly didn't pre-inform them of your intention to visit.
God bless u for this comment, what has killed us in this country is that our institutions are all rotten to the core.... corruption has eaten us in and out, I can swear with my left ball that the structure govt approval from the govt and the paid all the statutory fees so what is the governor now blabbing about like someone daft about the church leadership

When you build a house anywhere in Nigeria, as soon as that house achieves 7 courses above DPC, you'll wake up one morning and entertain a visit from officers from the urban planning and development. They put a mark of illegality on your structure, prompting you to cease work and visit their office for proper "settlements".

Those same animals, who sadly only believe that taking money from you to grant you that building permit is their only duty, are responsible for quality control. That agency has architects and civil engineers who should rightly monitor work progress on your site to make sure you meet needed standards.

But once you settle them, they never come back and never care whether you're ignorantly building a five storey building on a plot meant for just a storey building. That is negation of responsibility.

Seriously am a xtain but if you tell people that church are just too many in Nigeria they will tell you are anti christ. The money will invest in church if they invest it in productive things we change. Building church building church and the society is full of evil people.
I agree with you. If only all the men of God in an area, town or state could collapse structures and build just one church as it was in that era in the bible, if the motive is truly to serve one God, it wouldn't be a bad idea. But everyone wants to be GOs and stays relevant. Christendom is all about competition nowadays. They've derailed totally from the primary purposes...winning of souls and making heaven.

That said, erecting big edifices isn't peculiar to Christianity alone. Have you been to core northern states? You'd see massively built mosques in compounds with nobody using it. In places where they're being used, you'd find only members of same family and associates praying there. These are the kinds of buildings SLS, the former emir of Kano said to the owners to be converted to schools and they got angry and revolted against him.

The question I want to ask is....do we truly worship God and keep His commandments the same way we keep building physical edifices all over? How many of the leaders and worshippers are recognised by God?

One Islamic scholar and politician who served in the past givernment was charged with corruption. He was lodged into a hotel in Abuja ahead of the court proceedings. In the day he was to appear in court, he was seen praying on the mat in his hotel room, hale and hearty. But the moment he stepped out of the room, he was seen using crutches grin. He performed the drama up to when he entered a vehicle, and appeared that way in court, pretending he was sick. By the time he was done, he got back to his hotel . As soon as he alighted from the vehicle, he looked left and right and suddenly walked in unaided and carried the crutches in his hands and ascended the stairs , entered his room and dumped the crutches at one side it the room, walking normal. He didn't know the cctv was recording all his activities.

These are the kinds of religous leaders we have in Nigeria. Do as I say, not do as I do people. Until we change our mentally, we shouldn't expect any meaningful progress in Nigeria.

Read this quote again, and again and again. This time, with your thinking cap if you have any.

it's not the job of develop agency to monitor every material used in the building.

Their primary job is city planning and ensuring you build according to plan.
Like getting approval for 2 story building but instead erecting 10 stories building.

They will not come and tell you to use German iron that costs 100 USD instead of 10 dollar knock off.
