A very good day
good people of this forum,
Please i need advice on this offer i see about
FG opens offers for N150bn sukuk bonds at 15.75% interest per annum.
is it a good investment for a student with 1 million naira am not using for now.

One advantage of the sukuk bond is that of guaranteed income. It saves you the emotions of market fluctuations.
If you do a good due diligence of other opportunities and you are able to compound your coupon payments, you should recover your principal in 5 years or less.
Since it's rental, you can see it as a case of using for example,10M naira to buy a house and getting a yearly rent of approximately 1.6M naira. The house does not increase from original price value and does not also decrease. Your 10M is back at the end of tenor.

Using your coupons to invest in other opportunities is the key here.

Although this cannot beat current inflation and that's why a good growth stock comes to mind as against this sukuk bond.
On the flip side, you have to keep in mind that stocks are volatile and anything can happen at any time and pushes it northwards or southwards.

At the end of the day, the decision is yours. Either u do bond and sleep without worry or buy stocks and keep abreast of information and always on alert in case of any news. Good or bad.

Good to have a mixture of fixed income and equities in your portfolio.

Bond or Sukuk will give guaranteed income and better yield, but the income does not grow.

N10 million used to buy FGN bonds 2050 in 2020 will go give an annual coupon of N1.4 million for 30 years

Same N10 million used to buy Nahco shares in 2020 gave a dividend of about 900k in 2020, fast forward to 2023 the same Investment gave a dividend of about N5 million due to the growth of the business

What level are you?

How did you get the fund?

How long are you will to invest ? I have seen people who bought 3 years bond who wanted to sell after 4 months.

Buying the Sukuk is not a bad way to start your investment journey

On the issue of reserves, most of the buyers relied on the seller's in-house reserve estimate and not CPR which by the time they later carried out independent audit of the reserve post-acquisition, it was a different story.
...well I have some knowledge about the process of the indigenous companies acquisition of some of those assets, potential buyers were furnished with all essential data to evaluate the reserves, resources, and commercial viability of those assets before acquisition. Check out many of these companies, they are either owned by former Shell staff or in partnership with others. Would these former directors/managers risk such an endeavour if it wasn't viable?

Who buys a reserve without due diligence? That's just business 101 if you ask me.

Would you say Conocco was a viable investment before the cowboys in Oando dived into it? One thing I know is that majority of the LOCs owners are carried away because it’s government JV and that’s all without any detailed and thorough DD.

Unfortunately, most of them don’t and even if they do and the numbers are in complete variance with the seller’s claim they still pay high for it out of desperation.

I would find this hard to believe. It just goes against every fibre of petroleum economics in me. All these wells being bought, especially onshore wells still have an avg of 10years before exhausting its natural lift ability. Perhaps, the companies in question don't have the purse(and other -ve parameters against the oil sector) to drive operations just like Oando who is currently seeking in excess of 700b in investment.
O&G investment especially in Africa are also plagued by the international communities/lenders and their stance against fossil fuels.
This is to buttress the point that nobody overpaid for any reserve.

My response was in respect of allegation made against Shell's assets bought by Nigerian companies. I have no idea about details of Oando's acquisition of ConocoPhillips

Yes, everything and if they do a thorough job even other companies they handle where you have holdings will be credited if they are all under same CHN. For Africa Prudential you can fill the mandate online.
However, before completing the mandate be sure your signature specimen is with them.

Thanks for this information.

What happens if the signature specimen is not with them for example when one doesn't buy public offer or right issue but buys on the floor of the stock exchange via stock broking firm?

Deadlytruth:

Yes. I am an example. For the first time, I filled and submitted my e-mandate form last year with the intention to experiment it, and in less than two days later my Sterling Bank account which I entered as my preferred receiving account was flooded with multiple years dividends from companies NEM, AFRIPRUD, HONYWELL, ACCESS, COURTVILLE, and even others like CCNN and UNION DIAGNOSTICS which had even been delisted.

If Africa Prudential Registrar happens to be the registrar to most of the stocks from which you are expecting dividends, then your stress will be minimal as you don't need to go to their office at all but fill the form right on their website and submit it without having to print out at any point, and in less than 48 hours credit alerts will flood your phone.

Wow! I just submitted my own on their site, I pray 🙏 to get all my outstanding alerts which are much, although maybe not significant in value.

Your signature specimen will get to the registrar from your stockbroker through CSCS Plc. You will need to contact your stockbroker to start the process.

Kindly check through my earlier posts on how to go about this.

I was told there was an investor called Afolabi, that used to buy only 1,000 units of any stock that he was buying for the first time, just to use 1 leg to test how deep the water could be. Better safe, than sorry, you know.

So, if you buy only about 1,000 units, or very few units of a stock, it is named after the man as ''afolabi units".

People like that, ARE THEY HERE?

+1 more like Afolabi Junior in my case, I test the waters with 100 unit like a stake in the line incase i have forgotten or mind game set in when allocating funds during periodical load up, I can recall notes written about such units for adding or otherwise.

Put 3.5M in the best performing assets, it has beaten all form of investment vehicles in the Nigeria Sector and I do not see a slowing down anytime soon. As we are governed by moröns who are more in interested in talking about school certificate than anything else.

The best performing asset am talking about is the “Dollar”.

Put 1.5M in good stocks, spreading it across 2 to 3 solid companies listed on Nigerian stock Exchange, that are consistent with paying dividends. The dividends gotten from this companies should be use in buying more Dollar. Good luck!!!

Don't just advise, suggest the companies

This is the same OANDO I was abused, insulted and called names on.
People tends to forget the good ones you do and ready to judge you on the perceived wrong one......forgetting that this market is not static.
May God forgive that fellow.

** If the likes of OANDO is not your thing, kindly stay away from it!!
** This post is to make a point......and not in any way giving anyone any update on what the market is saying!! If you like get update by yourself, if you like don't, na you Sabi.
