Paris 2024: Nnadozie, Ohale, Oshoala, 19 others to face Ethiopia

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Osinachi Ohale and forward Asisat Oshoala headline a list of 22 players invited to the Super Falcons’ camp for this month’s Paris 2024 Women Olympic Football Tournament qualification fixture against the Senior Women National Team of Ethiopia.
Ethiopia will host the first leg of the second-round fixture in Addis Ababa on Wednesday, 25th October with the second leg in Nigeria on Tuesday, 31st October. Ethiopia eliminated Chad in the first round of the series as nine-time African champions Nigeria drew a bye.

The Super Falcons, who finished 8th at the 32-team FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Australia and New Zealand in the summer, also drew a bye to the third round of the 2024 Women Africa Cup of Nations qualification series, after Sao Tome and Principe’s senior girls scratched the tie. The Falcons will be up against their counterparts from Cape Verde in the third round of that series at the end of November.

Paris, France will host next year’s Women Olympic Football Tournament. The Super Falcons played at the Olympics in 2000, 2004 and 2008.

ALL THE INVITED PLAYERS:
Goalkeepers:
Chiamaka Nnadozie (Paris FC);
Tochukwu Oluehi (Shualat Alsharqia FC, Saudi Arabia);
Monle Oyono (Bayelsa Queens)

Defenders:
Osinachi Ohale (Pachuca FC, Mexico);
Comfort Folorunsho (Edo Queens);
Oluwatosin Demehin (Stade de Reims, France);
Michelle Alozie (Houston Dash, USA);
Nicole Payne (Paris Saint Germain, France);
Jumoke Alani (Edo Queens);
Rofiat Imuran (Stade de Reims, France)

Midfielders:
Halimatu Ayinde (Rosengard FC, Sweden);
Peace Efih (Sporting Club de Braga, Portugal);
Christy Ucheibe (SL Benfica, Portugal);
Rasheedat Ajibade (Atletico Madrid FC, Spain);
Toni Payne (Sevilla FC, Spain);
Regina Otu (AS Saint Etienne, France)

Forwards:
Rinsola Babajide (Coasta Adeje Tenerife, Spain);
Ifeoma Onumonu (NY/NJ Gotham FC, USA);
Asisat Oshoala (FC Barcelona Feminine, Spain); Uchenna Kanu (Racing Louisville, USA);
Gift Monday ((Coasta Adeje Tenerife, Spain);

Why is the NFF putting the cart before the horse? Why release a list hurriedly when you're yet to announce who the Super Falcons coach is. It appears the NFF is playing a fast one releasing a list before the rumoured announcement of Randy Waldrum's contract extension. It's a big gamble allowing the coach not to pick his team for a game as important as the Olympics qualifiers. I'll rather the coach makes his list so he's held entirely responsible for the outcome.

Don't get me wrong, this is largely a good list and quite frankly, 90% of those on this list would have been invited by Randy anyways. I'm particularly impressed with the exclusion of Onome ebi and the debut for Babajide. It however isn't the point. I'll rather Randy do the invite and own it fully. Let's see how events unfold.

Those highlighted have absolutely zero business being on the team, as Oyono and Comfort are fundamentally very POOR players and definitely not up to scratch at this level.
Otherwise, a decent squad.

The Semester is Currently on and their NCAA season is seriously going on right now, she recently said in one of her interviews that she would graduate by December and go Pro immediately. she also said she doesn’t really fancy playing in the NWSL but will definitely Play in the English WSL if the opportunity arises especially as she would be close to her Family…

Probably Someone in the NFF forcing this so called Oyono on Randy Waldrum before the last World Cup sef and again she isn’t among the top 3 Goalkeepers in the NWFL sef..

Na So Edwin Okon do that Year wha he da force Ibubeleye Whyte on us as Precious Dede replacement 😂😹😂, Monkey no fine but e Mama like am, Thank God for Alaba Jonathan and Tochukwu Oluehi for the rescue..

So why Bring her in after her poor performances at the U20 World Cup… If they really want a good young back up for Nnadozie they better bring in the Best not the I know you they’re doing…

Looking forward to the debut of Omorinsola Babajide. Been following her progress since her Liverpool days in the WSL. Nice to have another quality forward on board.

When you think about it, it's crazy that we haven't qualified for the Olympics since 2008 despite our dominance of women football in Africa... The NFF are always the problem especially with regards to who coaches the team..
The Olympics qualifiers take place shortly after the world cup, that's when the NFF would have sacked whichever coach was in charge of the tournament while bickering over who replaces him or her ..

That have been the major setback of the SuperFalcons, because them da always sack the Coach after World Cup then bring in their favorite Chris Danjuma who have failed on several occasions

nff Mo is drafting invite list against the general wishes of the coach involved. I can beat chest and say they've done so for almost 65% of squad list in last decade. They no go ever learn and stop that nonsense. I said it on SE thread that it's one reason they can't also employ top manager that won't take such BS from them. A pity!

Waldrum won't agree to the NFF picking his team for him. I think it's why they are pushing out this list before his contract is renewed. Cause has the NFF ever released a list for a game this early. We practically used to beg them to release list before now, this time they are very eager to do so more than 2 weeks before the game. We know their game.

Sadly we are not a people with value for history. We forget things easily and even when we don't forget, we are more interested in having our way than ensuring success. The only positive from this list in my opinion is that 80% of them would have been called by Waldrum and the core of the team is present.
