No, this is on Ooni and we are not about to treat him like a baby who knows nothing. You are the ignorant one here tbh. In his position, he should weigh everything that comes out of his mouth and the delivery effect. When he grants interview or make a statement he has to make it clear that he was talking about Ugbo of Ondo state. He can't just make such a comment and let people fill in the gap for him. This is not his first time, he once gave the whole credit of Orisa Aje to igbos, so this Ooni may actually have a mental illness or alcohol problem and need an intervention. People who revere shameless character like him are the reason Yoruba leaders are the only ones disgracing their culture in Nigeria.
MightySparrow:

He didn't confuse ugbo kingdom with igbo. The newspapers and bloggers do. There is this tussle between the Olugbo if Igbo kingdom, Oba Akinruntan (owner of OBAT OIL) and Ile - Ife. The history has a link with Morèmi and Olu Orogbo. The Igbo kingdom is in Ondo state. All ignorant people here throwing insults at the revered monarch are both ignorant and stupid.
The Olugbo of Igbo kingdom came out with his own story as well as Oba of Benin, about Ifẹ and yorubas. When bloggers and media people that lack the proper training of journalism do shoddy jobs they misinform people.
In the case of Tinubu, I have personally, not rely on local bloggers and media houses. The only one mentioned by Professor Farooq Kperogi a professor living in the US is more reliable than all these inept, junk journalism .

Igbo language is an evolved version of Yoruba language.
Words like Onitsha ( a corruption of the word “orisa”) Enugun (a corruption of the word “Enu Ogun”) Agbani (A corruption of the word Agba eni), Obi ( which has the same meaning in Yoruba). There are several intonations in Igbo language that sound Yoruba and I peronally attest to this. The Igbo ukwu art and Ile Ife art were also made from the same material which is bronze.
The story of Moremi made mention of the Igbo people who were later defeated and colonized. I know of the aborigine Igbos but there was a definitely a contact between these two tribes that predates colonial times.
A highly revered historian A.O Olabunmi in his book “Rise and fall of the Yoruba race”made mention of this.

Can a man be older than his ancestors ? The way Yoruba people try to rewrite history is astonishing

These are a people that did not have any history before an exiled Bini prince known as Izoduwa , came over to Ile-ife to rule the savage homo erectus he found there . They called him Oduduwa and that’s how yoruba history started less than 1000 years ago

Now Ooni is trying to raise hands at an ethnic group that has existed before the Roman Empire . That’s right. Igbo has been around since over 3000 BC. We’re currently in 2023 AD. So thats about 5000 years till date.

Igbo civilization is older than the Nok civilization
A man can never be older than his ancestors.

If one is to go by your submission, then the claim that Igbo are Jewish will be controversial.
For the bronze work found in Igboland, Trading might have made that possible.

Ooni is just a boy punching above his weight. No evidence Yorubas predate Bini people not to talk of Igbos who predate every single ethnic group in Nigeria with evidence.

According to archaeological evidence dating as far back as 3000 BC in Nsukka and Afikpo, the Awka- Orlu area by far constitute the oldest continuing settlement in Nigeria from where Igbos spread.

Infact, evidences abound to suggest that Igbos founded Ile ife before moving further south.

Linguistic evidence also suggest that Yoruba language developed from Igbo in the distant past.

What the Ooni has done is as bad as King Charles claiming that Germans migrated from England, instead of accepting the well established fact that the Anglo-Saxons were Germanic tribes that migrated from Northern Germany to Britain.

The only ethnic group Ibo predates are the Igbos, continue smoking nonsense

While many ethnic groups in Nigeria relate to or claim Oduduwa (Adimu) in Ile-Ife, other ethnic groups outside Nigeria also claim their origin from Ife.

Where those trying to snatch victory from the head in Nigeria missed wide, is that there were 200 to 400 ORISA BEFORE ODUDUWA that Oduduwa met, one of who he claimed as his Ancestor.

So which one of them are you going to snatch for relevance again?

What of the Mecca version of oduduwa

Igbos and Yorubas are like beans and rice, they love each other very much. The usual tribal rantings here on nairaland is just a sign of deep love for each other, like brothers coming together to boast of how much they have achieved for themselves and how well they are doing after a long separation.

It is more like Nigerians have no one else to compete within Africa, so they start competing with each other.

Who is his dealer?

Even phenotypically, igbos look very distinct from Yorubas.

Nobody would look at an Igbo and a Yoruba and not see the difference.

Besides, they are both Major ethnic nations.

The chance of that being true is 0%.

Not all Yorubas even migrated from Ife. This thing of attaching humans origin to a single source has to stop. Humans don't originate from a single source.

The Igbos are a vast collection of people who merged to form an ethnic nation. Same with the Yorubas, Urhobo, Edo etc.

As if that was not enough, they are now trying to extend it across the Niger grin

Looking at an average Igbo and a Yoruba.

How will anybody say they came from the same place?

Do they even look alike?

Even the ibibios that look very similar to igbos won't claim same origin.

Useless Ooni, you call yourself an Oba but talk like a slave each time you open your mouth. What a new level of stupidity! You look stupid and sound stupid too. You are probably drunk again, since they say you swim in liquor. Oloshi oba ajarabuka, awon alale and orisa ma a se e bi ata se nsoju for helping igbos weaken and drag Yoruba during this time when Yoruba should be all armed defending their land against igbos. So what's next? Steal thousands of hectares of land from Yoruba and sell to igbos?
The "Ile Igbo" in Ife has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Ibo ethnicity majorly located in the east of River Niger. Ile Ife simply means "THE LAND IS WIDE" in Yoruba language, emphasizing the size of the land to accomodate all the native inhabitants of Ife.

The Igalas (a linguistically Yoruboid group just like the Itsekiris) of Kogi are the ones that have more direct ancestral and genetic connections with Yorubas according to an interview the late Attah of Igala, Michael Ameh Oboni granted to Saturday Punch in 2017, entitled "I am the Only Attah of Igala With One Wife." Indigenous Igalas and Igala bloodlines also exist in Enugu, Delta, and Anambra States. So, this historic ancestral, cultural and linguistic relationship between the Yorubas and Igalas via the Kogi State and River Niger area in the last 700 years is majorly what the Ooni of Ife and other people MUST educate themselves on and emphasize on! Yorubas and Igalas share far more similarity in words than Yorubas do with Ibos. The Igala influences in Anambra and Enugu areas in the last 500 to 600 years is responsible for the introduction and usage of the few clear words of Yoruboid origin such as Ewure (Ewu), Okuta (Okwute), Enu (Onu), Egungun (Egwugwu),
Medicine or Ogun (Ogwu), etc, in those areas.

It is an open secret that the RED chieftaincy cap is of Igala origin and was first introduced by the Igala people into the Nsukka area from where it was copied or later spread years down the road to other areas in Iboland that had no cultural links with the Igala people. Mostly the
Yorubas of Kwara and Kogi States also wear red chieftaincy caps alongside a large number of middlebelt ethnic groups, such as Igalas, Ebiras, Jukuns, Idomas, etc.

There was NO split of autochtonous people to create those linguistic similarities and the so-called theory of Niger-Congo linguistic grouping has been discredited with more evidence of how Igala came into existence through a FUSION of people of different ethnic origins from Wukari, Yoruba, and Edoid, etc.

Even the late Attah Michael Oboni of Igalaland in that 2017 Saturday Punch interview clearly said IFA divination is consulted before a new Attah is installed on the throne. The same IFA divination is done in all the many Yoruba kingdoms in Nigeria, Benin Republic and Togo before an Oba is chosen for the ancestral throne of his kingdom.

"Oboni" has to do with the female vagina or organ in Igala history. In Yoruba language "Obo" means exactly the same. Ogede, omi,
Egungun, and more are similar words found in Yoruba and Igala due to a mixing of groups of people who migrated from about 700 years ago from the Jukun Wukari area (Taraba State) who then met and fused with a significant number of Yoruba and Edo people (around the Kogi and River Niger region) to form IGALA according to the factual interview the Attah of Igala, Michael Ameh Oboni granted Saturday Punch in 2017, which can still be read online. The Yorubas share boundaries with Igalas, and Agenebode in Edo State directly faces Idah in Kogi State across the River Niger.

The local tribes now called Ibos are actually NOT of the same origin because the cultural history and ancestries of Northern and Southern parts of the Ibo area are very different based on the conversations of Ibos I have read over many years online and offline.

There are examples of why there could be an iota of truth in this theory.

Igbos first migrated from Papua New Guinea to Equitorial Guinea and then Nigeria.

Igbos arrived in Nigeria in 1800's, so stop that. Where you call southeast today was inhabited by the people who call themselves Delta Ibos and the Uhrobos, they were the original Ibos you pushed out to occupy the land. You used their name 'Ibo' and then changed to 'Igbo' to fit into a Yoruba folklore 'Ara Igbo'. This is why you don't have authentic African attires, you went from 8 pocket shirt over a wrapper, white man winter socks as hat to now Yoruba Buba and sokoto with Morrocan cap( yall have now made the middle bigger in the last year, but still not original to you.

The Yoruba and the Igbo share a lot more than similar mythic origins. They are the oldest inhabitants of the areas they live in. In other words, the Yoruba and the Igbo are indigenous to the geographical area called “Nigeria”. And it has also been argued that both groups are of a singular ancestry.

The oldest stratum of religion in western and central Africa is Orisha religion, which mutually obligated humans and members of the extraordinary realm of divine and ancestral beings.

There has been much argument about which tribe in Nigeria is the oldest. The Ijaws started inhabiting the Niger Delta region of what is now Nigeria as far back as 800 BCE, thus making them one of the world's most ancient peoples. They have existed as a distinct language and ethnic group for over 5000 years.
