Insulting me doesn't exactly make your arguments more convincing or intimidating.

I am not a Nigerian who lives in squalor, neither am I ignorant. Leadership failure is a concern we collectively share as a people but ignoring the baby steps of progress and reeling out comparisons about how Hiroshima had electricity in the midst of a nuclear explosion, isn't going to increase our current electricity capacity by a single kilowatt.

You can stay on nairaland and bark at your interlocutors all you want, it is not going to stir anyone to do things differently unless we as citizens find the will to demand leadership accountability through the proper means.
God bless you bro

I'm trying to understand what laptop you comfortably bought for 1 million naira only to come on nairaland to lament about spending 160K on generator usage monthly.

Sounds like you have the tendency to be wasteful when you can have same satisfaction from spending lesser on alternatives.

My system cost me 370K. I don't own a generator. I have a solar power pack I ordered from New Jersey at a cumulative cost of 175K. It's charged with electricity as well and can keep my gadgets and system powered for 80 hours before the next charge.

I also have a mini solar installation done at 160K that enables me use two fans and bulbs and when electricity comes on, I use my AC.

Everything listed here didn't even cost me up to the amount you wasted to buy a laptop. Sometimes you have to plan according to economic realities.

I agree with all you said except for his laptop choice. As a civil engineer, there are some animations that will take me 18hrs to run but a good laptop will take just 3hrs. My current laptop goes for over 1.6mil and I'm looking forward to get one at 3mil because of a software I intend to install and for effective 4k rendering in minutes. It all depends on the need.

Always talk about your own. Most states have only their state capitals as their cities what of the rest LGAs?
I'm in a popular city infact due to epilieptic power since January,my zone just sued our Disco to court and barred them from entering it for disconnections or whatsoever for 1 month now.

Imagine having light once 6hrs) in a one week.
I have so much work and bearing the deadline but tired of running generator.
2 weeks now I have been going to a tailors in another area to use their light.

It's very frustrating

Relocate!

Many cities have neighborhoods with near uninterrupted power.
The city you choose will depend on your budget.

Illorin, Osogbo, Jos are moderately priced.
Warri, Onitsha, Parts of PH are also okay.
For Lagos, Abuja, Uyo, Enugu ensure that your pocket is deep if you want to stay in neighborhoods with excellent power.

Just move. Even if na bedsitter. You'd breakeven in less than 3 months. And you can move to a larger place after the rent expires.

It's 2023. If you tell a client, partner, or employer that power supply is erratic; they'll interpret it as flippancy.

He bought laptop of 1m, and he is complaining of fuel of 160k per month.

Why didn't he buy a laptop of 300k, then add the 160k he used in buying fuel for one month to the balance of 700k and rent a place of 750k where the power is relatively stable, and use the balance of 10k to eat catfish pepper soup?

Come to Gombe you will get 22 hours of electricity daily
TheOldGods:
Nobody is talking about the big Elephant in the room, which is lack of electricity. This week I've spent 58,000 naira on fuel for my generator for work, that is full tank for alot of cars every week, and the car owners are complaining, what about us that need Electricity to work.

I barely get 6 hours of electricity, I tried buying solar, but the conditions are too much, turn off this, turn this on, don't use this bulb. Mehn, plus I can't turn on AC while working.

Since my work is from home I decided to buy a laptop worth 1million here on Nairaland (thanks to Nairaland) just to ease my work, atleat I get 4 hours of break in severe heated room with my laptop.

How else can someone survive in this country with this low electricity, is there any state that is better? Or is it a must I have to travel to another African country just to get simple electricity to work. My generator just went off and my fuel gone, that why I came here to rant. I'm going to buy feul at 615 naira per litre cry

Na u no wan spend money cause there is inverter plan for every home, i bet if u buy 10kva inverter with 2 pcs of 15kwh ion lithium batteries, nothing wey u get 4 house wey the inverter no go carry, but the question is can ur acct balance go that deep to fund the plan?

This is the closest answer to helping the poster find a solution to his problem. By my conservative estimate from loads he listed earlier, he has a daily need of about 32KWH/day from about 2.15KW total connected load (20% design factor included) - see attached picture.

However, any setup for 2 X 15KWH Lithium Ion Phosphate - LFP (better than just lithium ion battery), or for about 32KWH/day is not cheap. Tubular batteries are be cheaper, but will take up space and require maintenance. The disadvantage with Tubular is that it is not scalable. With LFP, the poster can start small and expand in the future. If he is currently using deep cycle batteries or tubular batteries, it is difficult for him to just add batteries, with LFP, you can easily expand.

Going by a rough estimate of his total connected load, he doesn't even need up to a 10KVA inverter (5KVA/48VDC may just be fine) if he has energy saving appliances.

If the poster enjoys about 4-6 hours of electricity per day, his costs can be minimized. If he is on a budget, a totally off grid system cost will be off the roof for him. I am positive his cost will still run into an amount more than triple the cost of his laptop even with this, so I think I understand why the poster is at a cross roads, irrespective, some costs may be necessary for convenience purposes and others.

The cost of his installation can be inferred from my assumed class 3 estimate of his load list posted with this message.

Let us be not be so hard on the poster, he came to ask for help.

Some of you sound so ignorant and pathetic that it beggars belief. How on earth is a 430K solar installation going to power an air conditioner? How much is a single solar panel? How much is a lead acid battery? And again, how much is an inverter? We are talking millions for a solar installation that will power his load of almost 2kw instantaneous.

This is a public forum, tone down the ignorance.

I don't think electricity should be an issue for u sir.....all you need right now is a professional solar system expert to design and implement d system for you and u will be glad u do. With a 3.5kva to 5kva inverter system my brother, u don't have to worry about putting on ur Ac and other necessary appliancies while working during the day.

lol what do you refill in 4 months? If it's your ac then there's a leakage somewhere. Normal ac without leakage should last no less than 3 years.

If you fill your gas every 4 months you're being scammed.
Exactly, I was waiting for this comment, in fact an AC unit with proper couplings and no leakages can even run for 10 years without refill.

As it stands now, you have to relocate and change your environment, else you spend more than someone paying a rent on the island.

Why not move down to places like Ago Palace(century area) where light is 10hrs-20hrs a day.

Cost of house

1 room apartment 350k
Self contain 500k
2 rooms 700k
3 rooms 800k and above.
