I have watched and read about the attacks you referenced above some time ago. It was clearly a failure on the part of Israel intelligence as they had wanted lure America into the war by blaming Egypt for the attack. I respected the IDF for acknolwedging this error on their part and apologizing to the United States. This was because in the early days of Israel independence and wars--the United States did not support Israel militarily. They even had a weapons blockade on the Middle East. To fight the Arabs, Israel had to source a lot of its weapons from the former Czechoslovakia! While Russia amply supplied the Arabs with weapons.
