I can't be comfortable with the thought of Gas cylinder inside my booth.

In the case of a serious accident and then the Gas cylinder get tosed about in the car, that could lead to an explosion.

Except if they are saying the Gas doest explode.

GAZZUZZ:
Types of CNG KITS

There are 2 basic types of CNG kits in the market , the Sequential Kit and the Venturi Kit. Here’s how the two are different:

Venturi

Venturi CNG kits is a term that refers to the CNG mixing unit and how it delivers gas to the engine. Venturi kits are generally cheaper to install and less complex than sequential kits. A venturi kit behaves like a carburetor which dumps a fixed volume of gas based on throttle demand directly into the intake of the engine. A venturi-type CNG kit can be applied on any type of vehicle, whether it’s carburetor driven or fuel-injected, with or without an ECU.
This type of CNG delivery is not very accurate and hence there are downsides of incorrect tuning that happen with venturi-type CNG kits.

The disadvantage of a venturi-type CNG kit is that since it feeds a fixed amount of gas into the intake , there are issues of loss of pickup and stalling occasionally, when there is too much or too little gas in the system. It needs to be frequently serviced and calibrated accurately, which not everyone can get right.

Advantages of the venturi type of CNG kit is its low cost of installation.

No complicated wiring or sensors .

Relatively simple system to install.

Ah! Op said a full tank CNG will cover lower miles than a full tank petrol and diesel. So comparatively it's not really cheap in that sense. The more you look the less you see.

He was talking about range (distance that your car will cover at a certain fuel level, in this case, when your car is filled up with either gas or petrol). So, he is saying when your car is filled up with a 60L of petrol, you will travel more distance than when it is filled up with 60L of gas. But of course price of gas/L is cheaper than price of petrol/L. FYI, CNG is sold in SCM. 60L CNG tank will take about 12-15SCM of CNG depending on pressure and where you refill. So, at N200/SCM retail price, cost to fill up 60L CNG is between N2,400 and N3,000 compared to petrol of N36,000 for same 60L.
The common denominator to determine the cheaper one is to do a calc on cost/KM which OP already did.

Are you talking about speed or consumption? If it's speed, it's understandable and people would grab it. Who speed help? But if it's consumption (as in, which one burns faster) then fuel although costlier will still be preferred.

I am not talking about speed. It is "consumption"...but I will like to know how you came to conclusion that a more expensive option will be preferred?

Take this example: fill up two cars and put them on the road, one with petrol and the other with CNG, let's say both with 60cl. Destination is Benin City.

Fuel car reaches destination in 3 hours with 40cl, remaining 20cl.

CNG car reaches destination with the exact 60cl in about 5 to 6 hours.

So I believe most people would prefer fuel although more expensive.
Re: Demystifying CNG in Automobiles by Jangbajantis: 10:49am On Oct 28, 2023
This is exactly what I'm referring to.

5. Limited range. Now that's a bummer. A vehicle equipped with a 2.0 to 2.4 cubic capacity engine running on a 65-85L CNG tank will cover about 200km on a full tank. Long distance trips will need breaks to fill up unlike petrol powered vehicles that can cover an average of 600km on a full tank.

You got it wrongly here....range has nothing with speed or time taken to reach a destination.
In your example, it should be more of ;
Car A & Car B travels similar distance,

Car A consumed 10L costing N6,000 and
Car B consumed 10 SCM of CNG which is equivalent of 50L of CNG costing N2,000

Again, it has nothing to do with speed or time taken to get to destination

It is 2023 and subsidy on PMS petrol is gone! The cost of moving from one point to the other has tripled due to the rise in fueling costs, but there is fuel which has been around for quite some time, but no one really paid so much attention to it, it is called CNG compressed natural gas . I can remember as far back as 2016 when bus drivers loading Lagos to Ibadan had converted buses and would fill up at mowe ibafo area before heading to Ibadan so it's been around for a while commercially.

So how is CNG gotten and why is it cheaper than conventional fuels (diesel, petrol , kerosine, LPG ).

Compressed natural Gas in its basic form is found in the ground while drilling for crude oil. The gas is then separated from oil goes through several levels of purification , then is compressed to about 3600 pounds per square inch.
CNG is cheaper because you do not need a billion dollar refinery to process the end product, the cost of separation and purification is relatively very cheap.

Unlike the other derivatives of crude oil (diesel, petrol , kerosine , jet fuel etc) that are controlled by worldΒ  crude oil prices, CNG is in a world of its own, not in competition with any fuels.

Re: Demystifying CNG in Automobiles by mctech(m): 12:54pm On Oct 28, 2023
The government should ensure a regular supply of CNG so that private individuals can establish gas stations such as is done for petrol and cooking gas.

We need a mass training program, probably affiliated to a renowned auto technician like Gazzuzz, Automedic etc to train our youths. Certification should be provided to prevent half-baked technicians.

Also, just as people are importing phone accessories and generator parts, the importation of CNG conversion kits should be regulated (quality) and incentivized (duty free).

The present problem is a great opportunity for all.

As I said to someone last month, just like coal faded into oblivion as a source of energy, fossil fuels (petrol, kerosene, diesel) are on their way out.
Gas is the future though solar too could have a very little share of the market.

Fellow Nigerians, how do we maximize this opportunity.

So much money to be made.
