I'm Afraid I Might Have HIV by FarSide: 10:36am On Oct 29, 2023 |
My past is seriously hunting me. In the past 4 years I've had unprotected sex with 12 girls. Now I want to get married and my girlfriend is insisting on HIV test first. All these while I never did any HIV test, I never felt it's important to do it and I never had any known symptoms of HIV. Since she requested for the test, I've been postponing it citing busy schedules and all that but deep down I'm just damn frightened. Can it be possible to have sex with 12 girls and still not get HIV? The thing is seriously giving me sleepless night. I'm planning on going for a test myself alone, then if it's negative, I will then go with her but if not, I will just japa 25 Likes 3 Shares

incandescentena:The fear shaa. I just can't stand it. For the past two weeks I've been trying to muster courage for this but no way. I wanted to do it last week Wednesday but when I got close to the hospital, I lost every courage in me, I had to change direction, entered a cool joint, took some bottles of beer and headed home. I just wish someone can drag me there but I can't confide in anyone Incase if it turns out positive 40 Likes 3 Shares |

Run the test alone in different hospitals, your next step would be determined by the outcome of the test. |

Have you ever wonder about the possibility of having HIV for a whole year without symptoms but ordinary malaria will take you down in days... I don't believe one can have hiv for a whole year without symptoms. Op just relax... Nothing do you 51 Likes 2 Shares |

FarSide: What are the symptoms of HIV? And how long will someone start seeing the symptoms? I did HIV test close to a month after I had unprotected sex, it came out negative. |

FarSide: Go to a far away anonymous hospital and do the test. If anything, the result is only known to you. HIV prevalence is 2.1%. Those are really slim odds of meeting someone with one besides the rate of infection is about 50% when you go unprotected with a carrier (except you've been dealing with high risk individuals) Either way, it's for your own peace of mind. You'd confirm you're truly negative or you take it in good fate and start treatment. There's no loss in a taking a test. 6 Likes |

Yes, it could happen in one thrust, but statistically speaking, the possibility of you having HIV is extremely low. Nigeria has about 1 million women with HIV and about 100 million women in total. So the chance of you meeting one is like 1%. Again, some of the 1 million HIV positive women are on medication and have undetectable viral loads. This further reduces the number of women in the country that can readily give you HIV (since undetectable viral load implies that it impossible to transmit the disease to others). OK, let's now assume all odds were against you and you had sex with that one-in-a-hundred HIV positive person with a viral load that is not undetectable (i.e., they can transmit the disease), the odds of you contracting the disease from them is still very low. HIV is a difficult virus to catch. When a man has an unprotected sex with a HIV positive woman, the chance of him getting the disease from her in a session is about 0.05%. So sir, you'll have to be one unlucky fellow to beat these odds. So I suggest you just go and get tested, and stop being a scardy cat, lol. Remember, whatever the result is, it is not the end of the world. It's better to be safe than sorry. Don't let anyone tell you HIV is hoax. That level of ignorance/naivety shouldn't be in existence in 2023. HIV is very much real. And even though it's no longer as dangerous as it once was, it is still out there, and you don't want to have it. So moving forward, it's good to know your safety options and pick the one that works for your and your pocket: 1) Abstinence (aka zip-up) 2) Monogamy (where both parties get tested every 6 months) 3) Condom 4) PREP (regular or on-demand) 5) PEP (preferably PEP-IN-POCKET aka PIP) 6) Undetectable viral load (if one of the parties is known to be HIV positive) 54 Likes 6 Shares |
