But when I mentioned this between March and April on this thread about the gang culture in Rivers State, the Rivers Vanguard would have none of it and kept downplaying it even when I was mentioning specific places, times, and dates.
There's a prevailing gang culture in the south south. From Edo to the Niger delta, though I've not lived there but from what I've read and heard with some testimonies from most rivers born I've met the statement might hold true to an extent

Currently ongoing: The Akwa Ibom Tech Week 2023.
Africa's new tech destination and Nigeria's most thriving tech ecosystem after Lagos.

Everyone is here. PayStack, Moniepoint, Tech Cabal, Mark Essien, brands from within and outside Nigeria.

It could have sadly still gone the other way boss so it's great he's where he is today For every ateke and asari today multiples have gone six feet over the years despite their experience and arsenal. Bullet no dey know intelligence. When even your jazz can still be out jazzed by your opps.
If you're in the science line or know someone in that line among your family and friends, it's good to encourage them to do deep research on the things people call "jazz", "juju", "voodoo".

All these are wrong/misleading terms. They're archaic. The appropriate term is "mysterious".

There's nothing like jazz, juju, voodoo, and the likes. It's either science and technology or superstition (fake).

In the past, a number of gifted individuals that knew key mysteries about nature hid the secrets of their knowledge from the people so those ones could deify and worship them across generations as one god/deity or the other.

Such gifted people were in various cultures around the world, and not only Africa.

One of the tactics those gifted people used in hiding these secrets (the mysteries of nature) from the people was to shroud them in cloaks of spirituality or various metaphysical terms such as "juju", "voodoo", and the likes.

The culture of calling seemingly mysterious phenomena or feats "juju", supernatural or spiritual was established this way, which was passed from one generation to the other.

Sometimes, some of those gifted people, or the priests that built a religion or cult around the gifted people, don't know the secrets behind those extraordinary feats themselves, so they took the easiest route possible: ascribing the phenomena to God.

But it's better to adopt the scientific approach and expose all claims of jazz, juju and the likes to scientific scrutiny so one can separate truth from falsehood, fact from fiction.

However, this (scientific) approach is hard and requires a lot of brainpower, which is why many, especially in Africa, often avoid it in place of the easy approach, the religious paradigm.

Behind many of those feats called "juju", "jazz", "voodoo", and the likes in the native cultures are unknown laws of nature (unexplained science).

If any budding scientist puts in the work and researches them, such a person can make key discoveries that'll help boost their career.

However, one needs to be cautious in this sort of research.

"PEOPLE DON'T MATTER".

That is a very terrible outlook towards any society. The very worst.
Those words should never be uttered, not by a good minded person.

Just imagine a situation whereby supposed intelligent masses are basically defending genuinely bad people and creating rationalisations for their evil actions.
What a pity.

Na wa for u o undecided

So out of all the factual things Ibime said in the post, na only "People don't matter " u want to latch on and u are almost immediately referring to him as not being good minded because he's saying things the way he saw it to be. smh

It's just like someone telling u factually that as far as "sit-at-home" order in the east is concerned, it doesn't matter whether the people support it or not; It's what IPOB says or does as per enforcement that usually matters. You know this is true.

Now why do u have issues with Ibime saying things the way they are ?

Ibime:

People can be behind Simi all they want. The people were behind Peter Obi but look what Wike did, especially in Obio Akpor

People don't matter. What's best for people is that "other" people aren't armed and violence erupts. The violence is not just for the battle itself but the guns that will stay in the protagonists hands and be used for economic crimes years down the line

This "peace" we dey enjoy for Rivers State so is based on arrangements between gangsters. You say Edison from Ahoada is supporting Simi because Ahoada is next in line. Is Edison at peace with Felix Obuah (sponsor of Don Wanni), and Godfather of Omoku/Ahoada axis? From my calculations, Felix Obuah is on Wike side and is chairman of PDP in Rivers State so given that mostly PDP lawmakers impeached Edison, that means Edison is going against his Godfather (Obuah) and na Ahoada go suffer the consequence. You know how wicked Obuah is, check all the beheadings and violence in that axis from 2015 to 2017.

Then you have other warlords in the different constituencies. I don't see Ateke and Asari going against Wike, and if they do, Wike will arm other Okrika and Kalabari warlords to usurp them in those areas which will burn down those areas like in Odili/Abiye Sekibo days.

The peace we have is based on gangsters agreement. The gangsters should come to agreement, peoples choice don't matter, it's better for the people when the gangsters agree.

Because behind those words are a visible nihilistic view towards our society.

I normally listen to ibime but that singular phrase captures the whole essence of his message. PEOPLE DON'T MATTER.
But they infact do. There is a thin line between realism and nihilism.
And not to mention that a lot of what he says are very unverifiable and without sources which leaves us at the mercy of untruths and word of mouth summations.

Using your example of ipob, ipob is succeeding because some of the people, the average masses themselves are enabling them. The sit at home is thriving because a lot of people, THE PEOPLE, actually key into it.

Same as the rivers situation where the situation is like that because of people's passivity and acceptance. Things haven't changed because the PEOPLE accept it.
I will say again, proclaiming boldly that "people don't matter" is a very bad outlook, a damning nihilistic indictment which should not be accepted by anyone.

You are the only one that knows why you are getting unnecessarily emotional about a very simple and straightforward post.

All I can read from that Ibime's post is :

The people are at the mercy of gangsters who have been armed over the years in their struggle against FG neglect , environmental degradation in Niger Delta as a result of oil exporation, etc. The gangsters/warlords are key players and determinant factors in the political environment down there. The people can shout from now till tomorrow but the moment the guys with the guns come out to point to a particular political direction, the normal citizens have no choice but to obey and follow else they suffer loss of lives or properties.

How is he justifying anything here ? I didn't read anywhere he praised Wike in his post

Honestly u are sounding as if u just want to have something to complain about where there's none

Don j na case.

What Ibime said is clearly what prevails over there. It's the same thing as saying, nothing will come out of the OBI/Atiku tribunal case, cos we already knows what's obtainable in this country.

Do anybody need to sugarcoat and talk sweet to please your ears? It is what happens and the people who are powerless cannot do anything about nothing.

BTW people are powerless in this country. So how can they really matter?

When jungle matures, people will trace their steps back home so Elephants won't match you flat like an ordinary grass.

Well, maybe perhaps it's my utter prejudice towards abroadians finding every imaginable way to condescendingly paint a completely irredeemable and incessant negative view of the country at play here. I'm not taking kindly to the sorta gleeful negative description because within me, I think that when we speak out about the country woes, we do it from a place of concern and the impact on us , but for them, it's a leisurely sport. A game.
And that statement, "people don't matter", highlights for me what I think is that irredeemable negative view of our society. Forgive the rant.

As usual you know nothing. 13 years ago Ibime and I used to have words because at the time he saw them as actual freedom fighters. I used to call Ibime Gerry Adams. grin. Man was strongly advocating for mend. But I guess the gej years showed them for what they are - armed opportunists who cashed out and carved areas of influence for themselves.
