It's normal,south african politicians carry very little security except the president.
During covid 19 I went to do a test and behold,the minister of mining and mineral resources(our equivalent of minister of petroleum) was right in front of me waiting on the line to do his test ,even his body guard gave me a pen to write because I didn't come with one. He came with two suvs and two body guards excluding the well armed drivers as well. That same man is a big wig in the ruling ANC,he is currently the minister of mineral resources and energy.and former chairperson of the ruling party. He is among the top 3 most respected politician in the country. I was shocked . He did his covid test,payed for it and left. He was even called his name, nothing like honorable or your excellency. You can easily walk into a shopping mall and find their top politicians or celebrities shopping alone,with no or little security .

A bodyguard's job is to protect their clients, at the cost of their own lives. That's the job role and what they are paid for. That they willingly surrendered showed they connived with the criminals. How many times have you heard of such happening in Nigeria, with bodyguards surrendering? E no dey happen. There is no other better weapon enjoyed by anyone else if not by bodyguards. These mudafuckers are packing heat...for every and any occasion.

I stand by my words: the bodyguards were compromised. The fact that they weren't even killed by the criminals is enough proof

that is not a prove at all. There are situation that warrant you to pull out your gun as a body guard if not your gun remain hidden. In a situation where you realize that returning fire will endangered your principal then you have to surrender in order to save your boss.
Check this situation, the car tyers got punctured as the car stopped you see one huge giant man with RPG pointing directly to you while his finger is already at the trigger, what will you do?
You have to look at the type of weapon the enemy carry,judge the seriousness of your enemy from the look in his face, consider the effective range of his weapon before taking your decision. If you fire a shot with your pistol it will give your enemy the reason to fire his RPG to destroy all of you in that car. Mind you, as a professional you are guided by the rules of engagement while the enemy is not. So Mr man there are other tactics you can use to win a war without firing a shot.

Sounds like excuses to me. Armed robbers in SA having RPGs? You kidding me? They fighting a war or something ? Then they came close to loot the car and collect their service pistols, providing opportunity for engagement. Those guards are complicit.

The only reason you can argue for is if a sniper is in the vicinity hidden. But then it don't matter, you defend your client with your life. That's the JOB. What happens if after they robbed them, then they kill the client? Who exactly did surrendering save, the clients or the guards or YOU telling me stuff on the phone?
