Why Mr Ibu’s Leg Was Amputated — Ex-manager, Chochoo by Antoeni(m): 1:26pm On Nov 09, 2023
Emeka Chochoo, the former manager of actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has disclosed the reason one of the actor’s legs was amputated.

He said the amputation became necessary because of an infection of the arteries at the ankle that was not detected early enough.

PUNCH reports Monday that the actor has had seven successful surgeries, including an amputation of one of hi’s legs.

However, speaking with our correspondent in a phone interview on Thursday, Chochoo confirmed that the actor was responding to treatment.

“I was with him up until yesterday. I worked as Mr Ibu’s manager for over a decade.

“He is responding well to treatment; he is gradually healing.

“The doctors are treating everything one after the other. What led to the amputation of one of his legs was an infection that affected one of the arteries at the ankle.

“Blood wasn’t flowing into the leg, which was not detected on time. When it was, it had become too late, causing the doctors to decide on the amputation.

Chochoo also stated that the surgery was done in Nigeria, but the actor will soon be flown abroad for further treatment.

“The surgery was done in Nigeria. He will soon be flown out of the country for further treatment but for now, he is being cared for in Nigeria.”

About 5years ago, it was speculated Mr Ibu was paid about 80million by GOtv for ambassadorship. And also GLO, about 20-30million. Same with Chiwetalu Agu and some other aging Nollywood stars. Amaechi Muonago had series of advert he got paid for and other contracts, not adding up the pay as an actor.

The question I have asked myself a thousand times is where are all the monies? The deal, the contract etc! Where did they bury it. I am ashamed on behalf of these actors each time they are sick and they appear online for help. Like, what in the blue-hell happened to all they have earned all through the years? Even people who don't get paid half of what they are paid take care of their health when it is worse. And I ask, did they use the money to train their kids? Fine, their kids should be taking care of them. Or was it house rent? Like, they had no investment with all the millions they are paid? Today, Natty Bruce, the Karat Nollywood karate king died too. Report came he died from the said hardship that has ravaged the Nollywood legends: sickness.

We have had Clem Ohameze came online to beg for help while sick. Ernest Asuzu suffered liver disease and died even after been helped online. James, Obi Madubugwu and the list so long have all come online for help and many of them couldn't still make it. The question is, are these men not being paid enough to save and invest against those terrible times? Even the ones paid in millions. What happened to the money? Please don't get me wrong. I am not judging these men, not even a spite. I am making a statement for our youths who have future. You have to start saving and investing no matter the amount of money you make now. You have to be deliberate about this. I don't know who is reading this but please, in the name of God you serve, start saving and diversifying your income, the grass does not remain greener always. There are times it withers.

Serge Gnabry, the former Arsenal player told a story of when he broke into Arsenal first team and they paid him a few thousand pounds and he began spending money on wears and bags and one day, his mother called him to order and told him, "save and invest, son. This period may never last forever." Like joke, a few months, he got injured and fell out of favor. Arsenal had to send him to West Brom to see if he could recover. He dropped drastically until he left England to Germany. And guess what? That period, he wasn't on a payroll. He was broke. His parents lent him money. After his career revived in Germany, the first he began doing was cut expenses and invested. He learnt the hard way. I don't have to exhaust my head here. But, let he that hath ears, hear.

When you're struck with a particular disease/sickness, you'd know you know you need 100s of millions for treatment

Bruh I just didn’t want to talk before some people without sense would view me as the man’s enemy.

The last time i saw his most recent picture with his protruding stomach my first thought was how can this man be living life like this. That stomach was obviously largely to wining (drinking) and dinning.

Over this man’s career he has had revenue most Nigerians would only dream of till they die. I am glad you just mentioned just one or two of ambassadorships. That only is over 100 million, how Nigerians have seen 100m?

Goodluck to the people providing for these Yeyebrites. I see everyone working hard to provide for themselves. I just hate seeing others overreaching trying to “take”, do you think they wake up early to hustle throughout the day just to carter to your needs undecided

May we not see the sickness that would consume our funds but haba, take care if yourself. Life is more than wine and meat, too much of everything is bad.

See Tony Elumelu, a billionaire do you see him consuming till his belly can’t contain his shirt. He is a wise man that knows health is wealth.

So as money comes into your hand you should keep it as savings and not use it to make investments, give your children good education or live a better life?
Better pray not to have a health issue. That thing can make 20M finish within 3 months. From the story, he has been on treatment for years. This same Ibu once said that Atiku paid for his treatment few years ago. Stop judging people. If you can't help, keep quiet.
