I experienced something unusual. My 2012 accord has had a p0420 for months and i was told i need to replace the catalyst. I drove through a pool of water over a week ago and the check engine light that had been on went off and hasn't come back on. Scanned the car and the error is no longer there. Wondering what the water had to do with it.

I don't know if anyone can tell the difference in fuel consumption between Civic 2010 and Accord of same year.
I know civic is 1.8 while accord 2.4 but I'm considering real world difference

You have said it already with the engine size stated. The condition of the car matters a lot

I'm expecting something like: accord uses 20, 30, 40 percent more petrol for same journey than Civic

For accords
It's best to get the last models in the generation, as that's when they perfect the issues with the earlier models in the generation.
Like for the 7th gen,
The face lifted 2006 and 2007 models (DC) have less issues compared to the 2003-2005 models (EOD)
As with the 8th gen,
The face lifted 2011 and 2012 models have less issues compared to the 2008-2010 models
I'll pick the 07 accord over the 08, if I were looking for the "most reliable"
But overall the 2008/2009 accord is still a reliable car and easy to maintain.
If you can't get new OEM balljoints you can go for tokunbo ones.
Just avoid the cheap Chinese ones when it comes to ball joints.
Maintenance is okay, it's a honda.
Some Parts are a bit pricey sha sha, but nothing too expensive.

I'll try and get 010 for a good price sha
Get a honda specialist to inspect am well make pesin no buy lemon..

If I want to change from water to coolant, is it okay to empty only the radiator and leave the one inside the engine?

Hi all,

I use Honda Accord 2010 Euro. I have two issues I need assistance with from

1. I recently experienced an A/C issue. I took my car to the carwash and they did a full wash (including the engine). After the wash, my A/C does not get cool/cold like before. It just blows air.

2. I changed my gear on 19 October 2023. My transition is smooth. However, whenever I accelerate quickly and then come to a stop due to traffic or cars ahead slowing down, I experience difficult accelerate back until I change my gear to Reverse (it then jerks) and then change back to Drive (it jerks again). It is barely two weeks that I changed the gear completely and the mechanic said I should give it like two weeks. I have mentioned it to the mechanic that changed the gear but I want other opinion on what could be wrong.

Does anyone have any understanding of what I am experiencing in both situations.

what atf are you using?

You might want to long strip or give it some time
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by fineboynl(m): 9:28am On Nov 13, 2023
I was sock today with my findings

I took my exhaust manifold out. V6 accord

The bank 1 downstream sensor was faulty all along . I have been using it like that for months.

But when i took out both exhaust manifold the bank 1 exhaust was clear white/gray in color. Putting your finger inside to scrub it will not stain your finger. It look dried and clear and more like engine that is working properly.

But the bank 2 exhaust manifold was black. Putting your finger to touch inside will stain your finger with black soot.

The both exhaust manifold was the same black inside before the bank one became faulty. I called my mechanic attention to it and ask him this two which one is consuming fuel he said its the black soot one. But i told him that is the one the both O2 sensor is working.

The other one inside was clear with all soot varnish is the one the downstream O2 sensor is not working.

My findings is still not clear if its the sensor responsible? Could it be because of the faulty sensor? The car might be on lopes mode which reduces the fuel.

If that is the case I might end up disconnecting the other downstream sensor.

I need clarification on this finding and it might solve all fuel consumption.

Thanks

probably water enter the catalyst oxygen sensor and sock and wash out the carbon blockage

Thanks! this may be the reason. Although it's back now and i want to find a solution. The catalyst is intact though and the error says "Catalyst system efficiency below threshold".

Once the radiator hose is disconnected the water in the engine will find it's way out too assuming the drain hose is the one below

oil or dirt carbon blocking the catalyst.

Is you car shorting oil? The burnt oil carbon might be blocking it

not all. Some will still remain.

But that one doesn’t matter it will mix with the coolant

First empty the radiator (loosen the drain plug under it) and once the radiator is completely empty switch on your engine for a few minutes until your temperature needle reaches the middle (I am assuming you have a thermostat) and once it reaches the middle you can then switch off the engine, replace the radiator drain plug and then proceed to fill up the radiator with the coolant.

Start the engine again and leave the radiator cap open, once the coolant level goes down fill it up, keep filling it up till it's level then replace the cover.

Remember to leave the coolant overflow container empty till after the engine has cooled down properly before you can now fill it up with coolant to the recommended level.

DO NOT FILL THE COOLANT OVERFLOW CONTAINER UNTIL YOU HAVE PROPERLY BLED THE COOLING SYSTEM TO REDUCE THE RISK OF OVERHEATING

You can drain all the water out from both the radiator and engine block before filling it with coolant. There are methods to these things.

If there's a thermostat installed it will block the water in the engine block from exiting except the engine gets hot enough to open up the thermostat.

If you changed your gearbox and it didn't work properly from first run then it will stay like that or get worse.

Exchange it immediately, drain out the ATF (if its original) and use it to test the replacement.
