Hello,
Who knows how long is it now, that it takes to get one’s passport booklet back from the USA Embassy, after a successful visa interview?
Re: USA Visit Visa Part 4 by hunee: 8:36am On Nov 14, 2023
We have different categories of Nairalanders;

The silent readers, they will never comment. until they disapprove their visa or approve or they never would comment.

The very active members, self serving always willing to assist.

The ones who only come here to ask questions, gather information and once they get it, you don't see them again till further notice. grin

Above all, it is of note to say this forum has been a good resource center for many, further stressing the need for everyone to make it more engaging and interactive so others can learn new updates.
Those who have been following me would say I have been resourceful on this platform.

Let us do our best to contribute!

If you had a successful or failed interview, always share your transcript for others to learn.

Good afternoon @hunee, can you please help me out concerning dates or how to process emergency dates? Please help!
Re: USA Visit Visa Part 4 by hunee: 12:53pm On Nov 14, 2023
Hi Wumi,
Trust you are having a great day.
Unfortunately, i do not have the connections for dates, but do you belong to some channels that give updates for dates? It will be very helpful to get one!
I also advise you to use the emergency button when it becomes impossible for you to get a date.
You also have the option for scouting for dates by regularly using the reschedule button, if you get an update here for closer date.
That is how most of the applicants for different categories of visa applications go about it.

If you require further information on how to join a group for date search, i believe some of the admins of these vaarious groups are frequent here, You can be lucky you are contacted via mail for an add up.
I wish you luck.

Thank you @hunee for the response. Please, if you don't mind can you explain how to go about the reschedule button process 'cos sincerely, I don't have an idea.

Also, do you suggest I pick any date available at the moment in order to get the option of reschedule button or the emergency date process? Location is Abuja embassy. And can you help add me to any Abuja group for dates?

Hey !

Let's assume you attended visa interview on Monday ..the latest time you could get your visa will be wednesday or Friday . If you went for interview on Wednesday or Friday then the latest time would be the next Monday . All the same let's say within 1 week ...

Cool down don't rush ..just be positive and be celebrating.

Thanks a lot for the reply. And you said the truth :

I’ve been thinking I’m too old to apply for a bachelor’s degree.

But here’s why I didn’t want to go straight to a masters :

I studied chemistry, but ended up a self taught software engineer. It was my hatred for chemistry that pushed me to learn development. ( Thank God I did ) cos I almost dropped out.

Now I’m done schooling but I won’t be able to access my transcript and the likes for atleast the next one year. I attended a federal school and the backlog is crazy. So applying for a masters right away is far fetched for me atm, cos I don’t even have my credentials at hand.

My plan was to attempt going for a second degree and my argument this time would be cos of my change in career. But wasn’t sure that’s why I again considered the visit route

I’ve been working as a software engineer for like the last 22 months plus and this is what I want to build my career around not chemistry.

So I don’t know if this will make sense for me to apply for a second bachelors but this time for software engineering major because that’s something I’m sure I want to build my career around now. I’ve been working in the field for the last almost 2 years. ( I was working while schooling) so I’m certain this what I want to do for another 10 years to come.

So what would you suggest I do

Hey !

The numbers of time you have been denied has nothing to do with every new application because circumstances and intention or purposes changes .

If i were you and i have the resources , at age 26 i will stay put on the route of the F1 visa and apply for MSc ..or Bsc if you only have WAEC. don't bother about age 26 going for Bsc ..purpose and gimmicks are the important things ...But your best alternative for F1 visa is MSc in a Public Research University.

2. If going for F1 student will be financially expensive for you or you just don't want to do the wahala of an F1 visa again, then FIND A GOOD CONFERENCE IN YOUR AREA OF WORK and apply to . IT IS BETTER THAN ANYONE SENDING YOU AN INVITATION LETTER ESPECIALLY NON FAMILY MEMBER OR NON BUSINESS PARTNER .

The rest remains on how well you input your info on DS 160. Your sponsor . Your ties to Nigeria . And how well you prepare for your interview Q and Answers.

There is God..Don't give up.
Cheers .

Hey !

There is no sin in having a relative in the US and it doesn't have any negative or positive impact on the VO decision. But the dangerous aspect is if the person enters the US illegally or if he or she overstayed visa and eventually got a PR through study or marriage or lawyer .

If your relative in the United States enters with a clean record , and with natural intention and doesn't have any criminal record why not ? You can be honest and indicate in your DS 160 that you have someone in the US.

Your own intention and ties to Nigeria as well as your financial capability for what you are going for is what matters to the VO. VOs knows that Nigerians are family people and we tend to follow one another in every successful adventure .

There is God ..don't give up .

Hey !

Go for Bsc in software engineering. Age 26 is not TOO OLD to go for another Bsc . The only job you have to do is to convince the VO your gap year . Gap Year is those years immediately after your WAEC ...what have you being doing ? Why are you just applying for your Bsc now ? Nevertheless, those questions are easy to defend . Give it a trial ..don't be discouraged. I can genuinely see that you have the passion for software engineering course and that your passion will speak for you during your interview.

Hey !

@ Wunmi . Don't let anyone intimidate you into joining any group. It's not mandatory and joining group is not the basis or foundation reason of Nairaland. Anyone who cannot share information publicly here and mandating people to join a group has a personal intention. Nevertheless, i am not saying joining a free group that does not require money ís bad if that group will give you what you want .

Cool Down Wunmi. If you are a fresh applicant just login into your CGI page and pick your first appointment date . If you can travel i will advise pick Abuja because Abuja is naturally not crowdy as Lagos . After your first pick don't rush to reschedule.....Let me know how it goes .
