paxx:From Google maps. Onitsha metro stretches to Imo state just like Lagos metro streches to Ogun. Onitsha metro area is larger than Lagos metro area in landmass but Lagos metro has higher population 5 Likes

XerXers: Onitsha Metro has to include Asaba. I mean it's literally right next to each other. I would say it's from Asaba to Owerri. Similar to how Lagos metro which is the largest in Nigeria includes Agbara, Ikeja and the island. |
Re: Is Onitsha The Second Largest Metropolitan In Nigeria? by XerXers: 10:22pm On Nov 15, 2023 |
paxx:Exactly. But the Onitsha urban is larger in landmass than Lagos. It stretches from Asaba to Awka to Owerri 3 Likes |

XerXers: please be careful.... or they will get angry that you are saying that Onitsha metro is larger than Lagos metro in landmass. Just leave it alone :/ What I know for sure is Onitsha is the second largest metro in Nigeria, and We need to stop with these inaccurate censuses. I'm not sure why we hate the truth in this country. Oh wait I remember now 2 Likes |

Ttalk:I dare to say that Onitsha is the Trading hub of Nigeria, not even Lagos.. I'm a business person, selling building materials, 80% of the goods we buy and sell are ordered from Onitsha in the Whole of North East(I can't say of other zones). 5 years before now, I was helping my mom to manage her business, we sell bags. Again 80% of the goods we and others buy are sourced from Onitsha. Between 2003-2006, I stayed with my uncle in Ado-Ekiti, he sells Machine spare parts and bicycle parts, his two close friends sells building materials, again they sourced 80% of their goods from Onitsha, despite the fact Lagos is not far off. An average Northern Business Man have been to Onitsha or at least Aba thrice than he has been to Lagos once.. 7 Likes |

ImmaculateJOE:I was in Minna. The building materials people get goods from Ogidi. Motorcycle spare parts people get goods from Nnewi. I served in Ekiti, same thing too. Ondo and Ekiti buy from Onitsha more than Lagos 5 Likes |

XerXers:Exactly.. Many Traders have never been to Lagos. Onitsha has the largest market in Africa.. but they still wants to argue the position of Onitsha in the metropolitan ranking. Another determinant factor, is the transportation sector... Virtually every Major town in Nigeria has bus that conveys people to Onitsha every day.. Here, in Yola Adamawa state, there are more than 7 transportation companies that plys Onitsha every single day, some of them still plys PH, Aba, Enugu and Lokpanta. This is not same for Lagos, maybe 3 of those companies goes to Lagos every day, no more for other SW states . 4 Likes |

YourNemesis: Oga anyhow you do it It's still the same thing, Onitsha metro is bigger than Lagos in landmass Buh smaller in population From onitsha to owerri has almost glued together, same goes to awka Unless you are blind to see it, check your phone goggle map again 1 Like |

XerXers: This is actually a really great point. Why is it that when you are in Lagos, you consider Ikeja, Ikorodu and the island as one city. but for some reason people dont understand that nnewi is also apart of onitsha metro? I think it's because all of them are in one single state called Lagos. If Anambra was named Onitsha, it would be easier to people to understand. 5 Likes |

helinues: I even thought you are educated Read what he wrote This Time around slowly, after then open any satellite map, or maybe Google map view onistha, You will realized how the urban areas spreads from onistha and has almost glued owerri, same goes to awka axis! If ikorodu, Agbara (in ogun state) and ikeja can be counted as Lagos metro Then Nnewi, awka and co can be counted as onistha metro The onistha metro itself is bigger than that of Lagos by landmass, buh smaller by population (Travel and see! Nigerians has built up almost everywhere around that axis from onistha to down to owerri)! 3 Likes |

Nigercity: The thing is according to the definition of a metro, the entire area from Asaba to Aba is one metropolitan area. Probably the densest part of Africa. 2 Likes |

XerXers: Does Onitsha have a marketing issue? and if so what can we do. Notice how New York State is named after the city, Enugu is named after its city, and Lagos is named after its city. Should Onitsha and Anambra do a name change? 2 Likes |
Re: Is Onitsha The Second Largest Metropolitan In Nigeria? by XerXers: 11:32pm On Nov 15, 2023 |
paxx:That is the Onitsha metro which is entirely different from Onitsha City. It's larger than Lagos axis in landmass. It's being built up rapidly. Few spaces will soon close and it's population will swell above Lagos axis 4 Likes |

paxx:Even ikwerre remote villages have become Port Harcourt but Obosi in the heart of greater Onitsha has refused to become Onitsha but parades as a separate city. This is the origin of yoruba ignorance about Onitsha. 3 Likes |

Nigercity: Lol, that’s not Onitsha metro. That is just a shading of all the the areas with high population density. If you go to Akwa Ibom state and look, it is the same thing. That doesn’t make Uyo one of the top 5 biggest cities in Nigeria, although it is quite large. . That’s the difference. |

Re: Is Onitsha The Second Largest Metropolitan In Nigeria? by XerXers: 11:46pm On Nov 15, 2023 |
YourNemesis:You contradict yourself, you mixed up cities and urban metro. Of course Uyo is a small city but with large urban metro. Same thing with Nsukka. Both Uyo and Nsukka featured last year

XerXers: That is opinion https://www.nairaland.com/1409955/how-big-onitsha-market How is Onitsha strategically placed Before the second Niger bridge was built What were the strategic roads or rail in or out of Onitsha By what objective evidence do you measure market size? Land mass? Sales? By which one is Onitsha largest? |
Re: Is Onitsha The Second Largest Metropolitan In Nigeria? by XerXers: 12:00am On Nov 16, 2023 |
Gajagojo:Lagos is at the edge, west of Lagos is Benin republic, south of Lagos is water. Onitsha and Abia pierced the center with huge catchment areas. Same with Kano for the North. Ariaria is largest by landmass. Main market Onitsha is the largest by volume of trade 1 Like |

paxx: you are correct!....................Onitsha downtown to owerri central is about 90km..............that is not the longest commute, in fact in the US that is a modest commute of about 45 minutes! no wonder the largest multiplex cinema in Nigeria is coming up in Nnewi ! According to the promoters of the cinema, they are targeting all the tertiary institutions around nnewi numbering about 10 universities but if you include colleges in asaba, onitsha, awka and owerri you are talking close to 50 universities..........................That axis will experience boom with good governance! 3 Likes |
