When Will Nigeria Get Better? by Kayceenaz(m): 4:00pm On Nov 17, 2023
I think it is in the best Interest of most politicians today for Nigeria's challenges to persist; for Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be dependent and semi-partisan, insurgents/bandits to roam, insecurity to be insurmountable, traditional/new media to lack objectivity, oil refineries to remain comatose, serving/retired civil servants to be owed, judiciary to be unjust, education to be funded with crumbs, corruption to creep in as a societal value, and integrity to be unpopular. This tide turning, that is, democratic dividends reaching needy Nigerians suggests shortage or stoppage of illicit gains they enjoy.

Hence, Nigeria cannot get better without first disinfecting our political class. This is achievable either by electorally stumbling on a patriotic Nigerian president that would spearhead a new dawn or Nigerians execute a revolution, preferably a bloodless one. I believe answers to prayers we've so religiously said for years to date would take one of those forms. Since the 2023 general elections proved luck is yet to shine on Nigeria and when is unknown (this may last for fifty or more years), the second possibility is left. But isn't it unconstitutional?

Expectedly, direct and indirect beneficiaries of of our national disorders would gaslight you with legal and moral arguments, hypocritically so, against a political revolution. Beware these are sophistries tailored to keep Nigerians docile, on their knees suffering and praying while politicians feast. Also, resort to brutal force through thugs and some security agents (others await a spark to side the people) for clampdown guarantees them no victory. One percent cannot in confrontation terms defeat ninety-nine percent. Nigeria will get better when Nigerians become exhausted.

Nigeria WILL never be better . Not in a million years of Sundays.

The oyibo man who created Nigeria knew it will never amount to anything "great".

Btw, "Panfora" Obi is not the "messiah" the country has been praying for, all this while. He is part of the problem hence cannot be the solution.

Precisely. Some have now become traders selling 'blame potion' to gullible, poorly educated and economically/socially unsophisticated Nigerians to villify member of the ethnic group they blame for Obi and his ethnic group not being in charge of Nigeria right now.

Is Obi's record in government hidden or unknown for some to now be able to justify making him a messiah today when history damns him a leadership failure and mediocrity?

What we all forget is that charity begins at home. There is a lot that focused people can do at regional level to see them succeed and defy the reality of Nigeria they love to condemn yet are not ready to act and change.

The truth is that it will be more profitable for all Nigerians, those who want success anyway, to push whoever is President to deliver regional autonomy so we can all be in charge of our own march towards progress or failure.

If, for example, all regions control their own resources, security, electrification, infrastructural development, industrialisation drive, manufacturing empowerment, family planning awareness, religious engagement and secularism, education and vocational training effort, tourism and hospitality drive, scientific innovation, fiscal policies etc, etc, etc then we will be able to note who are the real pace-setting leaders and the laggards who need to learn from others.

As is it currently, and until a brave President grabs the Bull by the horn to firmly push the drive for regional autonomy, we will all continue to be a menace to each other trading hateful and ethnicentric blame game cheaply and hopelessly online till eternity.

You'd have a point if Igbos had made an exemplary and stand-out job of governing the 5 SE States they are in charge of.

Western technocrats are all over the world helping to develop nations not their own because their record at home show their relative superiority, at solutions provision, in comparison to others.

Suffice to say not many Western nations would be going to Sudan to recruit Nuclear physicists same as nothing at all is on show in the entire Igboland, per leadership, to act as positive advertisement for your comical opinion that Igbos are best placed to lead Nigeria forward.

If anything, the reality that Igbo States are some of the worst administered in Nigeria would suggest the average Igbo leader is mediocre and a failure like Obi, Kalu, Ikpeazu etal.

Real leadership talent finds ways to make something out of nothing in the course of delivering solutions.

If you folks are not misguided megalomaniac and delusional dreamers who never work with reality, then show me just one truly stand-out and transformational Igbo leader, since 1999, that validates that saying.

Nigeria will get better under Tinubu 100%. I can stake all I have on it. The issue is that most Nigerians are not deep or well-read enough to see the real picture. Aside what they must read to do their job, most Nigerians never seek the knowledge they need to be aware citizens awake to their civic duty of holding leaders to account.

Most Nigerian adults only concern themselves what goes into their mouth, celebrity gossip, who they can jump on at night, "Kpomo don cost" discussion with the market woman who has never set foot in a school and can never make the causal connection with our reality and why inflation is increasing let alone understand the short, medium and long term solutions required.

If you have followed Tinubu's career, political leaning and leadership ideology then you will know he uncompromisingly believes in every region, State and even LGA having the autonomy that allows them, as federation units, to first use what they have and can generate to address their needs rather than pointing begging bowls towards the federal Government in Abuja. This is how he made Lagos what it is today.

If Tinubu can bravely seek and install his own appointees, regardless of whose Ox is gored and especially when most Nigerians assume everyone is scared of the North, then the clever and visionary Nigerian will prepare for Tinubu using the same bravery and bullishness to push for regional autonomy, once his government is settled and well-entrenched, to allow everyone to go and make progress commensurate with their readiness for hardwork and desire for success and financial autonomy.

The Nigerian economy is not even using 10 to 15% of her asset and innate might (human and material resources) in my opinion because lazy-thinking leaders, over decades and once crude was discovered, have created a 'one Nigeria' armed robbery model that allows us dump all the current aggregate wealth of Nigeria into one central pot for the latest cabal in town to loot when the obvious solution should be that wealth should be created, harnessed and uses locally with a determined amount going towards administering the centre and her essential processes, parts, institutions and parastatals like the Army, Immigration, customs and excise department forces etc.

Everything else should be broken drown to stimulate greater output, spirit of self-sufficiency, problem solving capacity building, uncompromising drive to end 'one Nigeria' indolence and unproductivity. Etc,etc, etc.

This is what we should be coming here daily to brainstorm how to push upon the government of the day instead of the banal argument "my man and my ethnic group is better than yours".

Wise people know where Tinubu will head no one can stop him. pursuing, especially after the beginning of the implementation of his maiden national budget, and will prepare for that reality.

Shallow-minded Nigerians can continue to arrive here daily in droves to talk garbage. Tinubu, along with Nigerian who want genuinely crave progress and do not have time to hate anyone, will create the Nigeria progressive folks want.

I agree with the part in bold but not with the solution. What you claim China did then, to help it succeed, cannot be done today.

We are an ethnically diverse nation. More so than most with how our nation host over 400 ethnic groups.

What needs to be done is to put in place rigid and constitutionally backed conditions, structures and governance models that mean every man and woman must give his all, in whatever State or region he/she is domiciled, to use what is available to him/her to secure development and self-sufficiency before blaming a single individual in Aso Rock.

We all saw Niger Governor demanding Niger Delta oil money derivation because of hydro-electrification his State contributes to our national grid.

Yet Niger State, more than three times the size of Holland and with enough arable land to create a crop and livestock agricultural behemoth, is headed by a lazy-thinker who wakes up thinking how he must get more from the federal Government while he has not spared a single thought for how he can use the very obvious and copious asset of Niger State to make her a very rich State.

His uninformed and distracted people, perhaps busy blaming 'Yoruba' Tinubu for all their problems, allow their clearly innovation-challenged governor to get away with such poor leadership that they will be the biggest victims of.

Bear in mind that the Dutch economy earned an estimated 49.6 billion euros from agricultural exports in 2022. 😲😲 Imagine if Niger State is earning a quarter of that?

Read the article below about farming in the Netherlands and you will curse all Nigerian Governors, North and South, and even ordinary Nigerians who come here daily to fight and drag than get busy delivering solutions for themselves and their country.

Overall, it testifies to your summation that the average Nigerian is to blame. We do not hold leaders accountable, letting them say and do as they please, and we do not even read and research enough to see we can get involved in the change also. "One Nigeria" has damaged us irreparably.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/interactive/2022/netherlands-agriculture-technology/

Cutting-edge tech made this tiny country a major exporter of food
The Netherlands has used advances in vertical farming, seed technology and robotics to become a global model

The rallying cry in the Netherlands started two decades ago, as concern mounted about its ability to feed its 17 million people: Produce twice as much food using half as many resources.

The country, which is a bit bigger than Maryland, not only accomplished this feat but also has become the world’s second largest exporter of agricultural products by value behind the United States.

The solution is to deliver regional autonomy to bring back a sense of patriotism in ourselves, our land/region and our targets because Nigeria is now an orphan no one loves and everyone loves kicking in the head when looking for who to blame for their problems never mind their own massive shortcomings and personal flaws/human deficiencies.

As an example, ask a Nigerian youth to get involved in agriculture and he will tell you he cannot get the money, even as he has never done a single research on costing, yet he can put 10 million naira together to 'japa'. Yet look at a Kenyan of Indian origin, below, setting up Tilapia farm in his backyard in Ghana for $1000.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wnmg_zgD59A?si=8jdbZopuBuoo8xBB

Overall, progressive Nigerians must trust the process and stick with Tinubu. He is no magician but his commitment to the 'holy grail' solution to Nigeria's pronlem, I.e every State and region using what they have to develop themselves rather than begging impotently and without dignity, is proven beyond reproach with his work in Lagos that has spawned many research papers studied avidly worldwide till today.

Nigerians should support Tinubu to deliver the enabling environment and we do the rest. He cannot do both. He cannot come to your house to screw your wife when you can't get a 'boner' or miraculously make food cost kobos, especially the imported variety, when we have a nation that fails to rise to the heights she can reach.

For example it is pathetic, given our agricutural endowment, we are yet to attain food sufficiency, at very affordable prices to natural resources ratio, let alone be profitable exporters enough to impact on GDP appreciably as the Netherlands has achieved.

Many nation spend fortunes to negate their agricultural challenges and lack of natural resources we have in abundance, like sunlight and arable land, just to get good crop and livestock yields.

We virtually import everything we needs from the rest of the world, to even include specialist engineering skills to build Lagos Blue line and fourth Mainland, yet we are almost completely incapable of manufacturing anything we can exports despite our vast human and material resources endowment.

Is it not time Nigerians, like the youth ready to spend 15 million to Japa rather than become a rich and productive farmer, look at themselves instead of one man or a few leaders alone? We should learn to demand the favourable condition uncompromisingly and then be ready to take it from there.

we are saying the same thing. But there is nobody to demand anything from. We ourselves are the change we need. As long as we continue to lazy about on social media with useless unprofitable videos, Nigeria will never grow. The west have kept our youth in perpetual mental slavery and hungry for everything western. Someone that will be forming big boy here and refuse to do menial jobs, will japa to go and wash plate and clean poo. Buhari said it correctly, Nigerian youth are very lazy.

On the issue of Niger State, Niger State isnt asking for Niger Delta money. Rather they are asking to be treated equally. Niger Delta has oil, while Niger State has the Dams. So they also want 13% derivation of the revenues from the electricity derived from the Dams. Its the same problem of free money and laziness.

Only you, your Presidential candidate, your ideological affiliates and co-travellers know it all. You are the only ones, especially the solitary messiah you follow, God has shown the solution and way out of over 200 million Nigerians. As such all else will fail and salvation can only be delivered for Nigeria by you and your choice of leaders alone and not leaders the majority gave their mandate to.

If you cannot see that the way you are precludes you from being part of the solution, because you lack the openess of mind to always seek and appreciate solutions from others, even if such comes from your sworn enemy, then it is crystal clear Nigeria is in trouble because your sort are in the majority.

Fully agree with the bolded above.

Per the above, it is a very grey area, unlikely to ever be constitionally or legally ratified, and I personally think it amplifies the lazy thinking and parasitism of the Niger Governor.

Electrification is a national challenge and necessity for all Countries of the world. It is an existential service no State can/should levy. Nations don't primarily create electricity to sell. They develop their power sector to service national needs and secure productivity for homes and industry. They may sell excess if such is available.

Very different to our main source of income and forex in the form of crude, gold, bitumen etc. There is nowhere in the world, and I stand to be corrected if you can prove me otherwise, where any leader has made the argument the Niger Governor makes.

The North has form in this regard anyway because we saw Zamfara, under Buhari, keep 100% of the proceeds of her gold sales.

My point is that it is "one Nigeria" feudalism, where all leaders seek to lazily extort the centre rather than loom inwards to the potentially vast income they shun, that is behind the mentally lazy talk the Niger Governor comes out with which is a national embarrassment IMO.

Northern leaders are more vulnerable to that sentiment than others, because they prefer cronyism and reliance on sharing of central resources and 'booty' than looking inward.

That mentality must change and this is why I compare Niger State to Holland because what would the 13% derivation the Niger State governor is demanding amount to monetarily, when electricity is heavily subsidized in Nigeria , that can even remotely compare to what his State can earn if he helps her develops her agricultural potentials to be making even a quarter of the over 40 billion Euros the much smaller Holland makes annually from agriculture?

I personally cannot wait for full regional autonomy. I am from the SW and very eager to do my bit contributing ideas to accelerate the development of the SW but not so keen to do so for Nigeria under our current "one Nigeria'" mentality still leading to this sort of throwback talk we now hear from a governor who has so much to work with but prefers to ignore that to be seeking 'change' from the FG.
