I do because I was raised in a family that taught me good values and how to choose a partner correctly. How to choose a partner that shares the same family values as I do. I did not marry with my penis, I married with my head. I come from a stable family and I married a woman from a stable family who shares the same family values as I do. So just as my parents and her parents, we both know there will be difficulties but we know we made a commitment to see it through. We don’t bail because things are rough, that is the mentality that pervades single parent homes, which is why the cycle repeats itself.

A lot of marriages are doomed from the start because you chose wrong partner from the beginning. You married for superficial reasons like beauty, money, peer pressure etc and ignored compatibility, character, values, respect and family background. So when the stresses of life hit your marriage as they will with any marriage, you have nothing to sustain the marriage.

My parents did not divorce, their parents did not divorce, same with my wife. Which mouth do any of us want to use to say we are divorcing…over what? Did I abuse her? Did she disrespect or cheat on me? On what basis? But to the man/woman whose parents are divorced or never married, the 1st option whenever there is problem is to leave 1) because they have no built in resilience 2) they don’t know what it takes to sustain a marriage having never experienced a stable home and 3) there is no shame after all daddy or mummy were divorced or never married, it is easy to default into they were raised by a single mother so They can raise their children alone!!!

If you were raised by a single mother it is easier for you to give up, whereas someone raised in a loving 2 parent family will try harder because it is a failure for them to bequeath a broken home to their child. That’s why I always advice men and women don’t marry people from broken homes/single mothers/absent/unknown fathers. It is easier for them to quit and they have no 1st hand experience of what it takes to maintain a marriage.
