tolue42: I'm not deceiving anyone, most of the cars from the "indigenous car manufacturers" are just rebranded cars from China. The only difference between Nigeria-branded cars and their Chinese counterparts is the logo. I know this for sure. |
Re: List Of Indigenous Automobile Manufacturers In Nigeria by asala1: 4:05am On Nov 19, 2023 |
Blaze14k: I'm just stating the fact, bro. I don't mean to demoralize anyone. Besides, the Chinese are making great cars. In fact, China overtook Japan this year as the top automobile-exporting country, so people are buying their vehicles. Most Dangote trucks are from Sinotruc China and most of the transit buses in Nigeria are from BYD or SMIC— both Chinese companies. There are Chinese equivalents for all those "Made-in-Nigeria" cars. So me any one of these cars and I will show you the Chinese version. |

BreconHills: You don't understand how cars are built. They get semi-knocked down parts from the car manufacturers in China, assemble them in the plant here and rebrand them as theirs. Chinese manufacturers don't care as long as their selling their cars. They can even come and help the companies establish their assembly plant. Liability you say? You are funny. 1 Like |

Blakjewelry: Innoson Manufacturing is an assembly plant for semi-knocked-down parts. They buy semi-knocked-down parts from the car manufacturer in China without the logo. They get their logo made somewhere in China. They assemble the parts and put their logo on it. This is their business. 1 Like |

asala1: I know exactly what you are saying. What I am saying is that in car manufacture, nobody builds a car using 100% parts from one country. Usually parts are brought from several countries and it assembled in location. The eurofighter for example (which admittedly is a plane) is built with components from four - six countries. The engine alone was contributed by five engine parts manufacturers. However in ship building Nigeria is making more progress with small inland patrol boats and ferries. Caverton has just produced a largely NG manufactured ferry. The objective for any country is to increase local components. If you have 30% local components you can claim the car. What the government should do have a tiered tax and support regime based on local content with import waivers for export lines. By the way there is an ( OEM) Original Equiptment Manufacturers (a market for buying non military components for everything including building private Jets). This is the market that Nigerian car assembly companies are buying from. They are not buying a car in China and shipping it as a completely knocked down UNLESS they are an outpost of such a car manufacturer eg Peugeot in the North. However to reduce final costs it is unlikely they will by buying Rolls Royce engines or Saab parts - so high liklihood China, Turkish and Korea parts will feature heavily. Let's give some kudos to people veering into unsupported areas with very tiny domestic ecosystems. We will get there. |

erico2k2:Which specific area of engineering is your specialty? There is nothing special about design and implementation of a vehicle engine. A good team of engineer with Autocad can give you a design to specifications, send that design to China and you get a mold. Now is it profitable to build a plant just for engine production, nope. Most production company in the develop country depends on other companies. for instance, a car engine manufacturer can produce for different companies all the company needs to do is send their design to the production company you get your product. |

Blakjewelry:To answer your 1st question I am a fluid mechanic. Now to your response are you sure you understood what I was trying to say up there?cos I was addressing the ++ We in Nigeria Have power as our problem Key Word Power+++I simply stated that the amount of Energy it takes to manufacture an Engine cast is by far less that one needed to produce a bar of H beam! does this make sense? |
Re: List Of Indigenous Automobile Manufacturers In Nigeria by lawani: 3:12pm On Nov 19, 2023 |
BreconHills: Do you realize that if rent in Europe or China or North America were as cheap as Enugu or Owerri that salaries will come down and oil price will drop as well to around seven dollars per barrel and a car you are buying at ten million will drop to at most two million naira? And that will be only because of the lower cost of labour in high income countries also because of lower cost of oil. If you can relate with that you will realize that Nigeria does not have any real industrial capacity. If there is then a brand new car will be around one million naira only |
Re: List Of Indigenous Automobile Manufacturers In Nigeria by Blakjewelry(m): 3:18pm On Nov 19, 2023 |
erico2k2:@fluid mechanic cool. Anyway I get what you are saying but my emphasis is not really on the availability of power per ser but due to severe factors such as you might need to provide source of energy for yourself and considering the cost of diesel in the country. Also for instance, those producing H beam already have a large market for it but if you are building an Engine and gearbox for just some few hundreds of cars a year then you will definitely run at lost at the end of the day. What I am trying to say in essence is that many most times thinks it is lack of brains that is causing the lack of some industry in Nigeria but it is always so. Sometimes some company actually needs other company to thrive. I had this discussion with my lecturer back then in school it's more of an argument than a discussion, I told him most of the problem in Nigeria is because of the people with money are afraid to take risk, except for the chip making industry which has some best kept secret, that in today's world you set up any manuctering or production company you want as their company that will set up what you want and it money that will speak. |

Re: List Of Indigenous Automobile Manufacturers In Nigeria by asala1: 8:21pm On Nov 19, 2023 |
Blakjewelry:You clearly don’t know what you are talking about. To make the frames and the body parts, they will need to have gigantic presses to blank and form metal sheets into shapes of the body parts. IVM clearly don’t have the capacity to do this. Besides, unless they are able to sell tens or hundreds of thousands of each version of their cars, the cost for making many forming molds for different parts of the cars is enormous and won’t be profitable. As I mentioned before, IVM import all the parts from the car manufacturer in China, put them together in their plant, paint them and rebadge for sale in Nigeria. |

asala1:Innoson tend to keep press side of his business low but majority of the parts are in house produce. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b2JMOmUJRo?si=r3Z-DxbLDlhesd1V If you watch the video you will see most of the parts are just off the press and has not even been welded together. |

obembet:Jet motor Company is an indigenous company founded in 2017 and based in Lagos. They company is also nickname the "Tesla of Africa" because they are the only indigenous company Nigeria producing electric vehicles. Currently, I only know of one line of vehicle in production in the company - the Jet mover (pictures below) and it electric version. They also have another version of the jet mover that runs on CNG. The jet mover is very popular among long range travellers. https://jetmotorcompany.com/

Blakjewelry:They don’t have the stamping press that’s why they are ‘keeping it secret’. What you are seeing in the assembly plant is what is called the completely knocked down (CKD) kits. You start from spot welding the parts and assemble the rest like a Lego. I’m not trying to minimize what they do, which I think is commendable but that’s what they do. |

Re: List Of Indigenous Automobile Manufacturers In Nigeria by asala1: 6:39pm On Nov 21, 2023 |
Blakjewelry: I think it is better for you to keep away from something you clearly don't understand or know nothing about. Building cars is not your strong area. For one, nobody uses steel plates to make car bodies, they use sheets. Also, what do "steel plate cutters" have to do with forming and blanking parts? Africans and glory hunting. Taking credit for what you don't or can't do. |
Re: List Of Indigenous Automobile Manufacturers In Nigeria by Blakjewelry(m): 7:16pm On Nov 21, 2023 |
asala1: So what material are sheets made from? Rubber abi na every car uses aluminum. Maybe the word sheet should big in your ear, steel plate of varying density are used in the automotive industry do your research before jumping into conclusions. |
