Oshiomole is not a godfather. He doesn’t even have the APC structure fully in his grasp within that same Edo state.

Edo state generally is a swing state, it could swing to PDP or APC so Oshiomole wouldn’t have been able to play absolute godfather in Edo.

Oshiomole is just an ex Governor that help his successor get to power. There are only few political godfathers in Nigeria.

Ambode can attempt to go against Lagos structure, but I’m 100% sure he will not be able to defeat them. So he will come out with more losses than gain.

God father status is not given on a platter of gold,it has to be earned. Like oshiomole, Tinubu was also two term governor of Lagos state and after completion of his tenure, he appointed BRF as his successor which automatically cemented his godfather status. If Oshiomole's candidate ize iyamu had trounced obaseki, Oshiomole's god father status could have also been cemented.

Ambode might have lost that election if he had decamp to another party and contested against Tinubu's candidate, but lagosians would know he is no pushover. But chicken out has relegated him to the lower echelon of Lagos state politics. No political or ministerial appointment in last regime and story still the same in this present administration. So what is left for him? He obviously lost his status and the people. That's a loss-loss situation for him.

Ambode is just a coward.
That's the simple fact.
Bode George has been fighting Tinubu from day one and nothing has happened.
Question is, did bode George win the fight? Which of them has been more politically relevant till today?
A wise man picks his battles

People like would have advised Obaseki not to fight against his godfather, Tinubu and the APC because he got little chance of winning
But he fought and today his better for it.

Are you telling me if an individual like wike was lagos state governor, do you expect such an individual to give up so easily, no!

Tinubu is not God. He is a human no man is infallible.
The truth is there come a time in a man's life that he fight his fears. A make or break fight.

In life, you must learn to choose your fights wisely.

It is not everybody you see you will fight.
Obaseki decamped to pdp to wrestle with oshiomole, he did so because he got the support of the people.

Ambode on the other hand already fought Mc oluomo and NURTW, even threatened to withdraw the contract of road sweepers and hand it over to a Chinese company.

Where is the backing of the people and what is the strength of pdp in lagos should he decide to decamp?

Did you think he didn't give any fight at all?
He actually fought, but he knew when to stop.

He had no hope. The entire structure has been created to benefit whoever Tinubu wants.

You don't know ow Tinubu would rather lose the presidential election than lose the grip on lagos state
And long as tinubu is 001, d odds are against him as well. he should evolve into ghost politics.

If Ambode knew obaseki could put up a good fight and defeat his political godfather,he could have as well put up a fight but chicken out did more damage to his prestige and reputation.
In life, it is better to try and fail than not to try at all cos life itself is all about taking risk.

Tinubu is not Buhari who stays aloof. Obaseki cannot fight oshiomole with Tinubu as president.. Why is Obaseki now making up now tinubu is president?

He lived to fight another day. The house of assembly would have impeached him or lagos would have become a war zone. It wasn’t worth it.

Above is the true answer.
Ambode started very late. The best feasible option was for him to decamp to another party, but will risk impeachment from the state assembly.
Unfortunately, ambode didn't have a good relationship with the members so he will be at their mercy.
To prevent his impeachment, he will then have to fight very dirty. Likely use the paramilitary and other forces within his govt to terrorise the state and his opponents including possible political assassination.
This would lead to eventual massive protests against Ambode because he's not popular amongst lagosians. Ambode may respond with state sponsored counter protest leading to bloodshed on the streets.
I'm sure if he pay thugs well, they will enter streets with machete to hack down any opponents or protesters.
With constant unrest leading to the election, I'm not sure how he will be able to govern Lagos in peace.
Let's not forget Lagos is not like any other state. So many vested interests including foreign govts. Most expatriates Iive in Lagos, with Lagos reaching boiling point with violence, most world powers attention will focus on Lagos and whoever is instigating the crises. Ambode will risk international sanctions.
In all Ambode has to make sure he return as governor because if he lose out, he will be destroyed. Election rigging is a different game altogether. Ambode must be ready to match Tinubu heavy electoral machination on election day.
So what we will see is the replay of Awolowo v akintola fiasco and the subsequent wild wild west.
In all of this, his luck will last if FG looks sideways, if FG thinks otherwise, they will move against him with the military and that's game over for him.

Likes of obaseki got away with it because he had the state assembly on his side and Edo people hated godfatherism.
On the other hand, Lagos people love their godfather and see ambode as a ungrateful pest who wants to bit the hand that fed him.

Sincerely he had little option if he had any at all.

I have been reading comments and most people are missing the point.

Ambode wasn't fighting only BAT, he fought PSP operators, contractors, party members, workers, party chieftains in the state and even the Governor's Advisory Council (GAC) in the state.
Note the GAC has to assent to your interest before you can become a governor also note that the GAC is a creation of BAT but the decision made in GAC supercedes BATs on.

I heard (not sure if it's true) that BAT pleaded with the GAC to support Ambode for a second term but they refused.

Ode..

It was people like u that caused Ambode to loose what he had. U pushed him to bite the fingers that fed him food, that nothing would happened if he did. Well, he did fought the fingers that fed him but ate his last super in the process.

U should be ashamed of urself to come back here after almost a decade of misleading the young man who also saw himself as a small god at the time

Ambode is now history into the bin of our political discourse in Lagos. I just wondered why many of u couldn't offer him to be gov in any of ur States giving the love u showered him during the time in view.

Ambode was simply not a politician not may know how to use the power of a governor.
MC oluomo would be the easiest to put away simply ban all NURTW activities in Lagos when the uproar dies down constitute an care taker committee and hand over the position to another popular figure. Road sweeper will be working jointly with the Chinese firm. A governor is really powerful only few knows how to willed that power.
