People are selling all their belongings to migrate to dying economies abroad with no jobs.

The Nigerian government should start creating awareness campaigns to educate Nigerians that the grass is not greener abroad.

If anything what is going on is like modern slavery where people are schemed into going abroad doing care jobs like cleaning bum and taking care of old and special needs people.

Still, the earnings from these jobs will be taken from them through high rent, taxes, and penalties.

People have died due to these harsh conditions

People are living in horrible conditions with several families living in the same house and sharing everything including the toilet.

The typical rent in London for one month is the rent for a nice house in Lekki for 1 year

People are renting rooms in houses to live in

People keep to themselves and usually, when a new Japa arrives they think their extended families are hostile not knowing that people keep to themselves due to work and living conditions.

Reality sets in after a while when it has become too late to undo all that they've done and sold to make the move

If people know the realities of these conditions they will not sell all their properties to travel abroad into the unknown

Nigeria is a good country if we can stop complaining and focus on the job of building the nation to its full potential.

The UK has made about $50 Billion from Nigeria in the past 2 years alone and taking unimaginable amount of skilled manpower away to be used in menial jobs

Millions have made that mistake and more millions are on the verge of making same mistake!

I always tell any one having the plans that, NEVER SELL YOUR ASSETS FOR JAPA

It even makes you relaxed knowing you have a fall back plan in an eventuality.

Imagine people selling their lands and homes to go change diapers in the West! It's absurd!

Nigerians too dey overdo things

Migration is as old as humanity itself....but Nigerias make it seem like it's the next gold rush. this wave of migrants just like others before them are just going into modern day slavery willingly

And it's not even the poor among us doing this....it's the people that already have more than most Nigerians.

Definitely it's not POVERTY that's fuelling the japa syndrome.
Neither is it unemployment.
It's the search for greener pastures
Doesn't mean the grass isn't green here

They didn't put a gun on anyone's head to move to their country. Those who migrate many times have carried out an honest introspective risk-benefit analysis, so they are ready to face any outcome be it positive or negative. The hypocrisy of those who are alarmed about intercontinental migrants is that most of them or their parents at some point may have migrated from their villages to bigger cities in search of greener pastures too, which means if they had the resources to go international they would have been the first to japa.

It is important to respect the choices of people. However, the fact remains that while you are pained about people's decision to Japa (which in reality is their right to freedom of movement), it changes nothing cos in reality, they are shaping up the future they feel convinced about for themselves and their coming generations at whatever price it will take. So Rest!

Nigerians don't travel as much as Indians do. Go check world migration statics you will see for yourself
What is all these about japa and japa. Let the people breathe anyone one wey wan travel make he find him way. What is the need of having the property and dying on the property.
Leave Nigerians alone ooooooo
Indians travel more no body done die for their head.

Modified: https://www.bellissimolawgroup.com/immigration-to-canada-by-country-where-are-canadas-immigrants-coming-from/
If you read this you will find out tht we are not even the highest in Africa.
And the whole of African is not even up to the immigrants from
China
India
Mexico
Just to mention but few.
Make una leave our Nigerians people alone oooo leave us to free our self
You can't spoil the country and still cage them to suffer

Don't even bring the trashy talk of stay and repair the country cos you don't know what Nigerians suffer.
Go try create business and bid from contract and see what the system will do to you.
Is it to get the necessary documentations
Or to even have your company listed even when you qualified ooo. Then you see people who didn't submit application getting the contract tell me how you will survive when all the bigwigs and political baba have hooked up the available spaces for their family members and mistresses who are not even in the field of such contracts abi na job you want talk about
Abi na what sef.

Some of you make assertions like everyone travelling or who have travelled out of Nigeria are suffering. Are you aware that a substantial amount of the people travelling to the UK are professionals?
Like Nurses, Doctors, I.T experts etc. Wether you belive it or not, some of us who travelled to the UK are at an economical level we couldn't have possibly reach in Nigeria for decades to come.

My wife was a Nurse earning N50,000 monthly in PH before she got a job with an NHS Trust as a Registered Nurse and we relocated. And I have been working as a QA/QC Engineer since we got here. The positive economical impact our relocation has had on our extended families at large, is suchlike they would never had imagined possible.

And there are thousands of Nigerians here with similar or even better experiences. Yes there are some unfortunate people who didn't do their research properly, and do not possess skills/professions which are in high demand here and those who also came here through fraudulently acquired CoS (paid CoS). If you paid for or bought a CoS while in Nigeria, be rest assured you are coming to suffer here because that is a fraudulent route and you have been scammed.

Immigration is as old as life itself, people will always engage in it, but do it the legal way and you will be alright. Funny how the OP calls G7 economies dying economy, when Nigeria and no African country is even a G20 economy yet.

The way and manner that some of you who claim to work abroad type is very nauseating. It makes me wonder if truly you guys do communicate in standard English as we've been made to believe. No wonder they made IELTS mandatory for Nigerians. You guys should stop communicating like semi-literates biko. Una dey disgrace our educational system.

Our main FDI for forex is from diaspora remittance our government have not been able to think outside the box to attract FDI , our politicians thrive in poor environment if Nigerians are educated and financially stable they would never accept mediocre politicians like we have now ,they purposely bastardized the naira to drive people into poverty,in order to escape this poverty and wickedness it’s the main reason for japa, to live a good life in Nigeria you need to earn in usd japa is the only way.

If you don't sell your property, the devourers in Nigeria are waiting to demolish them with out compensation. The people who sold their property and left are now better off than the ones whose property were demolished , run while you can.

Or have people forgotten the abduction of farmers going in in kaduna, zamfara and Taraba with absolutely no sympathy from government.

Very true.

I really pity those families who travel to the UK on an education visa.

Then end up being trapped in a system that extracts as much as they make, and continue to pay to remain in this nightmare with the hopes that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

5 to 6 years after, many still don't have any breakthrough or job security, and have to decide which of the couple would enrol for the next academic programme that extend their stay with the little money saved from the undignified jobs.

Migration for Greener pasture is as old as time itself.

The Buhari Regime broke the soul of Nigeria as a country. The center cannot hold anymore.

Buhari made Nigerians feel unsafe in their own country.

Everyone who has the means understand the need for a plan B now. Something that was easily looked over pre- Buhari.

So unfortunate,

If this current government don't wake up and start taking concrete steps that will reassure Nigerians that the country belongs to all. Not Fulani, Yorubas or any other group.

Then expect more migration.
Recently I heard the ASUU president complained that University of sokoto lost about 100+ Lecturers to migration, it's the tip of iceberg.

With the current exchange rate over #1000 + to $1 USD and the astronomic hike in price of common food, couple with the continued insecurity in Nigeria... It's only a matter of time

It is human nature to seek for job safety, security and progress.

It depends. Someone sold his prized land and cars and replaced it with better ones within 6 months of relocating to Canada. You need to study what you're going to do there well before leaving. The guy went into oil rigging in Canada.

And Buhari's govt acknowledged 133 million multidimensionally poor Nigerians, almost 70% of Nigerians....why didn't those Nigerians succeed?

If one is legally resident in the UK and earning minimum wage as a single young man or woman who works 60hrs (5 days) a week, at the end of the month, the take home pay after National insurance and Income Tax is £2,177.01 for the month.

Spends £150 on transportation.
Spends £600 on rent and utilities.
Spends £150 on food and drinks
Spends £200 on clothing and footwears
Spends £50 on toiletries.
Spends £250 on other expenses inclusive of health

If after every, every he/she saves £500 (N720K) monthly, is the minimum wage earner of N30K in Nigeria more "successful" than the one in the UK?

Even if I am offered a N1.5m monthly salary job in Nigeria......I will NOT even consider it.
