Leave the shit hole while you can things will get even scary and ugly like omobabas face.

Op dey take wetin no good.

Migrate if you can provided you migrate legally.

And you understand how money works?

This is important people need to understand how money works.

If you keep working for money you go work till you old and die.

Let your money be working for you create equity not income.

The one that shocks me the most is that those moving abroad were doing quite well here in Nigeria(had cars, good jobs, some properties etc). Sometimes I wonder to what end! I have bought so many Japa clearance sales items at ridiculous prices that I am amazed.

Some of you make assertions like everyone travelling or who have travelled out of Nigeria are suffering. Are you aware that a substantial amount of the people travelling to the UK are professionals?
Like Nurses, Doctors, I.T experts etc. Wether you belive it or not, some of us who travelled to the UK are at an economical level we couldn't have possibly reach in Nigeria for decades to come.

My wife was a Nurse earning N50,000 monthly in PH before she got a job with an NHS Trust as a Registered Nurse and we relocated. And I have been working as a QA/QC Engineer since we got here. The positive economical impact our relocation has had on our extended families at large, is suchlike they would never had imagined possible.

And there are thousands of Nigerians here with similar or even better experiences. Yes there are some unfortunate people who didn't do their research properly, and do not possess skills/professions which are in high demand here and those who also came here through fraudulently acquired CoS (paid CoS). If you paid for or bought a CoS while in Nigeria, be rest assured you are coming to suffer here because that is a fraudulent route and you have been scammed.

Immigration is as old as life itself, people will always engage in it, but do it the legal way and you will be alright. Funny for how the OP calls G7 economies dying economy when Nigeria and no African country is even a G20 economy yet.

✌️

Your case is one in a thousand!!! Don't use your experience to conclude. You may have been fortunate that's all

To understand japa syndrome, you have to look deep. No matter how much you tell Nigerians, they will prefer abroad over Nigeria. When a Nigerian is born, society sings to him/her that Nigeria is hell, it's a zoo, it's punishment, it's a backwards country. That usa/uk is heaven on earth, the promise land, the place for everyone to live. The average Nigerian is programmed to hate Nigeria from birth. They go into survival mode until they can make plans to move. It's opposite over there, they teach their kids that their country is the best. Their kids grow up with the mentality that they are better and will do anything to make sure they look better than others. That's why a millionaire here can sell all his properties here and move there and be just your average citizen and doesn't mind it. Mentally, he has always seen there as his end destination. Whatever hardship he sees there, he doesn't mind. Ask the average Nigerians, you would see some don't mind sleeping on the road of usa, as long as they can say I'm in usa. If you like, give them an essay on how bad usa or uk is, they will still prefer it. Even our leaders do not see the Nigeria as good. Hence, they send their children there to learn. They go there for treatments.

You were making sense until you said, Nigerians shouldn't complain about the ills going on in the country.

It's like your head is paining you. You are b£ating a child with iron rod and asking the child not to cry, abi?

Let them japa. At least for the sake of thier children. Even if they suffer at the beginning, so far thier kids focus in school and are well disciplined, they will definitely SUCCEED IN A COUNTRY WHERE THE SYSTEM WORKS. Unlike Nigeria where disciplined people with Masters degrees are jobless, living from hand to mouth and it keeps getting WORSE

Not true!!! Over 144,000 Nigerian Doctors here have better experiences than myself, because they probably earn more than I do. There are nearly 150,000 Nigerian Nurses here too making more money too, also over a 100,000 Nigerian I.T Experts here.

My wife's take home in a month is nearly £3,500 because she does a minimum of 3 extra shifts with Agency in a month in addition to her contracted job. There are Nigerian Nurses here doing 7 extra Agency shifts making far more than my wife.

People living good here don't mostly come to the Internet to talk, it is largely those who used the fraudulent route (paid CoS).

If you come here through the Skilled Worker Visa, you are already employed and not coming here to look for a job.

If only you know the privileges and advantages in becoming a dual citizen of first world countries like the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia, then you would understand why most of them travelled. Giving your children a first world standard education and the passport of any of these countries are the best things a parent can ever give in this ever changing world.

I agree with most of what you said apart from the bolded.

You mean, the society dictates that there shouldn't be jobs, the Nigerian state should still be battling with power supply in this century, there should be kidnapping and all sorts of insecurities, very poor healthcare system, uncertainty of the future among the young ones?

I've always looked at japa with disdain until I started seeing what the Nigerian system does to à lot of promising young people with this insecurity, unemployment and all manner of systemic failure. People may be having hard times when they japa but most Nigerians in the diaspora are not thinking of what to eat, how to get fuel, electricity, good healthcare system etc. Those basics alone are enough justification for thousands of people leaving Nigeria.

People are selling all their belongings to migrate to dying economies abroad with no jobs.

The Nigerian government should start creating awareness campaigns to educate Nigerians that the grass is not greener abroad.

If anything what is going on is like modern slavery where people are schemed into going abroad doing care jobs like cleaning bum and taking care of old and special needs people.

Still, the earnings from these jobs will be taken from them through high rent, taxes, and penalties.

People have died due to these harsh conditions

People are living in horrible conditions with several families living in the same house and sharing everything including the toilet.

The typical rent in London for one month is the rent for a nice house in Lekki for 1 year

People are renting rooms in houses to live in

People keep to themselves and usually, when a new Japa arrives they think their extended families are hostile not knowing that people keep to themselves due to work and living conditions.

Reality sets in after a while when it has become too late to undo all that they've done and sold to make the move

If people know the realities of these conditions they will not sell all their properties to travel abroad into the unknown

Nigeria is a good country if we can stop complaining and focus on the job of building the nation to its full potential.

The UK has made about $50 Billion from Nigeria in the past 2 years alone and taking unimaginable amount of skilled manpower away to be used in menial jobs

I don't blame the western countries for opening their doors to Africans... Nigeria government is actually the cause for all dis...

20years to 10years back.. dere is nothing like japa japa.. but now.. they hav damaged the country to the extent no one wanna stay any longer again...

They will borrow billions from world bank and share them among themselves...

You will apply for jobs and they ask you who your God fathers is...

All this mess is literally pushing Nigerians out of the country...

The place where I work, the logistics manager is a Nigerian man with kunk Igbo accent (bros doesn't do those init init stuff).. The day this bro sat me down and told me the story of his life back in Nigeria, the way sapa nearly sent him to his ancestors, even me open mouth. The stuff this bros has back home now, no be small.. He has brought two of his brothers here too...

There is no UK university you won't find a Nigerian lecturing there. No NHS hospital you won't find either a Nigerian doctor or nurse.

I.T guys yapa here. We have so many handi workers like plumbers, hairdressers, barbers earning well in this country...

Leave adults to make their choices. They will be responsible for their choices

Please just a quick question, if I japa with my family, will we be given automatic citizenship after 5 years?

Each country has its own immigration routes and rules with respect to naturisation and citizenship. Your question was not specific enough. But I'll use UK as an example; if you immigrate to the UK on a Skilled worker Visa, you will be eligible for Indefinite Leave to remain (ILR) on your fifth year and for citizenship one year after holding an ILR.

And if through the Study Visa route, after your studies, your next line of action would be to switch from a Study to a Skilled worker Visa. You can check the Gov.uk for more information.

And Buhari's govt acknowledged 133 million multidimensionally poor Nigerians, almost 70% of Nigerians....why didn't those Nigerians succeed?

If one is legally resident in the UK and earning minimum wage as a single young man or woman who works 60hrs (5 days) a week, at the end of the month, the take home pay after National insurance and Income Tax is £2,177.01 for the month.

Spends £150 on transportation.
Spends £600 on rent and utilities.
Spends £150 on food and drinks
Spends £200 on clothing and footwears
Spends £50 on toiletries.
Spends £250 on other expenses inclusive of health

If after every, every he/she saves £500 (N720K) monthly, is the minimum wage earner of N30K in Nigeria more "successful" than the one in the UK?

Even if I am offered a N1.5m monthly salary job in Nigeria......I will NOT even consider it.

Those who are working in Nigeria earning peanuts and still owed salaries, I guess they are not slaving for another man.

I prefer working in my clinical role here in the UK as I know what my 9-5 entails in a world class environment and very certain, I won't be told "stories" about my salary at the end of the month........I can't spend tens of millions in naira for my specialty education and you expect me to be "patriotic" by earning peanuts in Nigeria......e no fit work!

Bro you need to change your view about this. When you're working for someone that person control you and your time, regardless of how much you're paid. If you find yourself in such position don't relax and get comfortable . Plan for your independence.

I don't need my "independence", I am working in a setting I have always desired for many years, spent tens of million of naira to get the qualifications.......it does not also stop me from freelancing my professional skills.
