Now, I really wish I had a wife at 24, but life didn't give me that space and I wasn't ready. All I needed to have at 24 to get married(which stopped me then), I have them now, and I'm still not seeing the reasons to get married.

Marriage has lost its value. My only drive to get married is just to have kids. If I wasn't a Muslim, i'd have gone to the babymama options without getting myself imprisoned with marriage.

I'm getting married because it's sanctioned by my religion and having kids.

At the end of the day, it all depends. I'm in my 30s and I'm unmarried.

My grandfather married in 1944 at 32 and his marriage lasted 30 years till his wife died in 1974. Married again in same 1974 and it lasted 12 years till he died in 1986.
My late uncle married at 25 in 1970 to a wife 7 years older than him and he lived with her 42 years (dying in 2012).
His junior brother (my dad) married at 30 and the marriage didn't last 8 years. He married my mother and it didn't last 5 years.
He brought back same wife and he nearly died in the marriage. He kukuma say, "I no do again" and abandoned everyone to live the solitary religious life he always wanted to live (almost became a priest and last minute it went south).
His junior brother, my uncle, who was 12 years and 8 years their junior, married at 36 and his marriage is 30 years this month.
He's 66 and his last child is 18 and in University.

My aunt (father's elder sister) married a man at 42 (in 1967) when she was 19, and the marriage lasted 40 years till he died in 2008.
My aunt again (father's junior sister) married a man at 38/39 in 1980 and their marriage lasted till he died early this year, after 43 years.


At the end of the day, it all depends. Some work, some don't.
I encourage those wanting to marry to always inquire from God in their quest to get married. My own family was destroyed due to bad marriage decisions.
Father, step-mother, mother, siblings; all alive but scattered, with no atom of emotional bonding.

Nigeria is what makes people marry late. I knew back in the day an indigent student at UI ibadan, at 24, he got a job at chevron with starting salary of 10k, an un heard of amount. In 6 months the fella married his woman.
Why do I say naija is the problem? The economy and how things are set up.
A young man in the uk, at 24 is already married if he wishes to, he already has a house based on modgage, a nice brand new car on lease. He is working with skills acquired. By the time he is 27, he buys a bigger house by selling the previous one(as family has grown), he keeps paying his modgage and building his wealth through his property. Access to credit helps him.
Here in naija, you are on your own, even steady job hardly can run your expenses, to have a house, you muct cough out the whole money or pay huge rent with atleast 1 year payment.
Inshort, naija makes people advance in age before becoming men.

Actually, it appears that the question of early marriage is rather cultural than economical. The poorest people in Nigeria marry earliest and reproduce the most.

Methinks many young people are rather feeling unprepared to take on the burden of marriage. People kinda feel they still have milestones in life before marriage. So, its rather "cultural" than economical...

Looking back, I'm glad I did!!!

Honestly. My Dad married at 22, at 52years he stopped paying school fees and has stop the extra struggles for family bukata. He's 56yrs now and Dad is basically not stressing again. All his kids are grown and doing well.

The best time to marry ad per Nigeria current situation is 30 to 40 yrs..if u are from a very rich family who has a job position for u to fill you can reduce the age by 5 yrs...I.e 25yrs.

45 or 50yrs is the best time to have children, marriage is always a wrong idea

A girl with good home training and you will never regret it.

Regret is meant for the weak. No matter the age grade determination is what matters.

Not a single regret, in fact I’m one of the world happiest guy. Met my wife 11 years ago when I was 19 and she’s 18, had our first daughter 6 years ago and legally married now for 5 years and I’d say I made the best decision of my life.
